Quote : | "State of the Band - Rock Band Software Update Finalized! Hi! I’m Dan T (HMXspraynwipe), and I’m a senior designer here at Harmonix. I’m glad to announce that the Rock Band team has finalized a software update for Rock Band on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that not only fixes some of the common issues we’ve been reading about on rockband.com, but also introduces a cool new feature!
In this latest software update, you’ll find:
* (New!) Music Store: Rock Band now has a new feature that lets you preview and purchase songs from within the game! Accessible from the main menu, the Music Store lets you view, purchase and sort all available music based on various categories, view album art, listen to song previews, and check out extended information about the song like difficulty for each instrument.
* Revised Fan Caps: To allow Easy, Medium, and Hard players to progress further in the Band World Tour, we’ve increased the number of fans that you can earn before hitting the cap. Easy players can now travel across the Atlantic, Medium players have a wider range of venues they can play at, and Hard players on the Xbox 360 are now able to unlock the “One Million Fans” achievement.
* More diverse songs in Band World Tour: If you’ve ever cursed about having to play “Say it Ain’t So” or a Metallica track multiple times in the same hour, then you’ll be glad to know that we’ve tracked down and fixed the issues that triggered these very repetitive moments in Band World Tour.
* Improved phoneme recognition: We’ve improved the detection and scoring for phoneme recognition. If you had trouble on songs like “Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld” or “Blitzkrieg Bop”, you should have an easier time beating these songs now.
* Microphone Latency on PlayStation 3 improved: Our awesome team of audio programmers has found some optimizations that reduce microphone latency on the PlayStation 3 in certain situations.
* Xbox 360 Band Logos are now visible through Xbox LIVE: An issue with parental controls stopped band logos from being visible over Xbox LIVE. With this update, you can now view all of the awesome band logos that people around the world have created!
* Faster loading of downloadable content: Not only is the loading speed faster, but this information is now cached so that this loading time is a “once only” wait rather than something that happens every time you turn on the game.
Updating any game is something that takes a lot of effort to do – not only do engineers, artists, production and designers all have to be involved at some point, but each change has to go through a rigorous Quality Assurance pass to make sure that it doesn’t introduce any new issues (like corrupting old save data, for example). After we’re happy with the software update, we then pass it on to Microsoft and Sony, who each have their own rigorous testing and certification processes. The entire process can take months for a simple day’s worth of fixing!
Because of this, we’re very aware that there are features that the community has requested that aren’t addressed in this software update. I want to make it very clear that we’re listening to all of your requests, and actively want to get these features onto the Rock Band platform in the future – but when we do add them, we also want them to be 100% perfect, and not rushed just to make it into any specific software update.
Lastly, and most importantly, thanks for being an awesome community! There are changes in this software update that wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the well-reasoned and polite attitude that most of the members on rockband.com have, and I’m really proud not only of the work that we’ve put into Rock Band, but also of the work that HMXSean, HMXJohnlok, Apples, and the rest of the rockband.com team have put in to maintain this great place for Rock Band fans to hang out in.
Have fun! -DanT" |

exciting news about the patch
a little more:
Quote : | "You may have noticed that in the Music Store, coming with the Rock Band update later this week, is a reference to albums. In fact albums have their own selection (with a Coming Soon next to it) on the front page of the Music Store. But still no official word about when albums may be coming. What gives?
When we sat down with the game to check out the new menu at GDC we asked our Harmonix guide just that. He said that albums were a very important goal for the game and that Harmonix was in the "process of finalizing albums."
It sounded to me like one of the hang-ups might have been figuring out pricing and how to deal with people who have already bought chunks of albums through Harmonix created music packs. But it's definitely on it's way and soon. So take heart. " |

bwt online is not a big deal to me. if i'm not actually in the room with other ppl playing then i don't want to play in a band. i'd rather play by myself and not have to listen to other ppl's fuck ups...
but that's just me apparently 3/20/2008 4:17:08 PM |
ncWOLFsu Gottfather FTL 12586 Posts user info edit post |
yeah but i want to beat everything in that mode, and you can't without other people that are good too. it'd be a lot easier to make that happen if you could play online. 3/20/2008 6:05:13 PM |
markbrandpan Veteran 358 Posts user info edit post |
i agree with ^ & ^^
i'd like to beat everything in BWT, but my friends either don't play enough or aren't good enough and playing online just kind of defeats the purpose (unless you're one of those top-20-on-the-leaderboards bands)
btw, does anyone know if there's a way to change the band leader in BWT? 3/20/2008 8:20:29 PM |

yea i've got about 700,000 fans, and i want to get that 1,000,000 fan achievement. and i wouldn't mind doing some of the 'complete the city' ones. though it seems like that in each city there is at least one really long set to play. definitely lots of playing to finish all the bwt stuff. 3/20/2008 11:17:37 PM |

ok, I'm still very new at this. I bought it last friday and have prob spent 4 or 5 hours playing it. so I have a few questions...
what's the best way to play drums? by this I mean, how hard should I be hitting the drum set, and how should I be holding the sticks? I feel like I'm not doing it right.
playing guitar seems easy enough--not easy as in I'm able to play anything better than the second easiest category--but easy in that to me it's a lot about tetris and knowing/preloading what you're going to be doing.
final ?... if I "beat" an easy solo tour, will all of those songs be unlocked for group quick play? 3/22/2008 2:27:16 PM |
markbrandpan Veteran 358 Posts user info edit post |
^you don't have to hit the drumpads very hard at all - in fact it's supposedly beneficial (particularly during drum rolls) to hit lightly; i also feel like this provides more control/speed
did you buy it for the 360 or the ps3? i find the 360 equipment to be slightly shittier, in that it registers double hits more frequently. this happens when you're pounding on the pads
as for holding the drum sticks, just go with whatever seems natural to you - i think the tutorial instructs you to hold each between your thumb and index finger with a couple of inches of each stick extending beyond the bottom of your hand...the main thing is just playing and developing a comfort level
i find guitar to be much easier with the xploder guitars (guitar hero), though these are only compatible with the 360
you unlock songs by beating them, and you don't need to beat the entire solo tour to unlock a particular song 3/22/2008 2:57:39 PM |

I think it's a bit like tetris because I am about five seconds ahead of the game in that I'm capturing what I need to be doing to play (five seconds) later 3/23/2008 10:27:00 PM |

maybe it's just me, but does anyone else get fucked by strumming sections in rock band?
i mean in gh II and III, I can chug along with tough strums all fucking day (ala monkey wrench and barracuda) , but in rb i consistenly fuck up the fifth or sixth chord EVERY TIME
and this isn't even using the hunk of shit strat that came with rock band...it sucks with the xplorer and the les paul

your A/V sync might be slightly off. I had to tweak mine for a while to get everything to sync up right. I played for the longest time with it seeming right, except the drum fills had lag. Now that I've synced it up correctly, everything (particularly vocals + drum fills) is lag-free and I find myself messing up less of the chugging sections. 3/24/2008 8:59:20 AM |

That doesn't change the fact that you're a bitch. Your reply was bitchy (just like 90% of your other posts on this site) and the was completely uncalled for.

between playing nothing but the drums and not having enough time to try other solo stuff when other people want to play, i was really bored last weekend and played through the entire expert guitar tour
and holy shit i didn't realize how much easier it was compared to GH3, 5*/Gold*ed everything but 3 or 4 songs on the first try and now its down to the last two songs.

well it's a drum machine, so yea TR probably programmed parts of this one rather than actually playing them.
The song's unusual in that there are about 7-8 different sections that repeat, vs the usual 3-4. Once they click, it's actually a very fun song to play.
Run To The Hills, on the other hand..... is the only one I can't complete on Hard OR Expert. 3/28/2008 11:36:29 AM |

erice, try:
support.ea.com/rockband
and follow the instructions. ea has been incredibly helpful and reasonable as far as the warranty on rock band equipment goes
i believe the options are 1) they send you new/refurbished equipment; you incur $125 charge on a credit card (which is credited back to you when you return your damaged equipment) 2) they send you a box; you send back your damaged equipment; they send you new/refurbished equipment 3/30/2008 10:37:21 PM |
