I played a few shows with Knives a few years ago, when I was in my first band. I remember that I thought they were terrible, but now, apparently, they're amazing.

i wouldn't say they are "amazing" but I think they do what they do well. It is nothing groundbreaking or wholly unique, but they are great guys, VERY tight live, and I like Justin(lead guitar player)'s melodic guitarwork (more than his metal side really).

If you are willing to pass over into something with a bit of a "core" side to it, they are fun. If you're not remotely into any "metalcore" and don't plan to ever be you probably will not enjoy them but I still suggest checking them out They are my favorite band to play with off of our label.

some kid I knew was really into them and he and I shared a lot of musical interests so I picked it up at manifest in charlotte one day. I still have it around somewhere, but they just don't do anything for me. Around the same time I remember him and a lot of people I worked with being into Eighteen Visions pretty hardcore and I couldn't ever enjoy them in the least.

So, I've been trying to keep a record of any metal blogs, forums, or sites (or any music sites/forums in general that sometimes contain metal content) that people read or use. Obviously I started a database with any site that I look at and I've added on to that with some basic searches as well as any that I tend to run across, but I would like to get an opinion from you all since I am probably missing some.

So my question to you is this: what music sites/forums/blogs/review sites etc. do any of you read? Even a link to a long thread in an otherwise non music based messageboard (this thread is an excellent example) would be appreciated.

When our new album is recorded next summer I will be putting tons of time into promoting our new material and free promotion on the internet is one of the most effective ways to do that these days. Of course the label will be taking out some paying ads on sites and magazines etc. as well but theres nothing like free promotion. Any additional ideas are also welcome. At the moment we have myspace and purevolume as well as creating a band page on some other sites that allow that (absolutepunk etc.). I will be setting up a twitter in the near future as well.

One suggestion I am not down with is automatic friend adders on myspace or "botting" our plays (I know a LOT of bands who do this...unfortunately anymore I feel we are in the minority for not doing this the more I read about it). As far as forums go, any forum that I have run across that seems to have a somewhat active userbase is welcome. Because our sound on this album kind of crosses into several different genres, I am open to sites that cover anything from hardcore to black metal to prog rock.

Also, as my list becomes more complete I will make the spreadsheet available to anyone else who wants to promote a release for their band.

ohly blogs i read are returntothepit and grindingtheapparatus if you can even call those blogs
metalarchives is good if you want to find new bands
kerrazy-torrents has a good atmosphere except for being maybe the biggest place for stealing metal music
i also check ultimate-metal every now and then because the opeth forums are there. but recently that forum has gone to the shitter.
