we put money towards education and it doesnt seem to help...is it the kids? teachers? parents? school system?

throwing money at a problem wont solve it

that includes throwing billions of tax dollars at "free" health care

The best part of the speech was around where he said "I hate war!" Otherwise, he's not really that good of a speaker, and he looks really frail when he is isolated up there. The debates can't come fast enough for him.

I know you dont get it. Some of us live in the real world and understand that someone has to provide that healthcare and they need to be well trained. It costs money and its damn expensive. So for morons to say it can be free.. its fucking childish and makes you look like a child.

I seriously dont understand how people can be so fucking dense.

And either Obama or McCain would end up spending more than Bush. The spending's increased every term, it by itself is a meaningless metric.

The applause at the end drowned out his words, so he might as well have not been saying anything. He should have timed his rhythm better. (And his hand motions while he said that looked sad -- I'm not sure that most people know that is a direct result of the torture rather than old age)

it's part of living in a modern society. A goal of modern civilizations should be to help care for all of its citizens, if and when it can afford to.
Simply by living in the United States, you already reap countless benefits of living in a rich and modern society. Other modern societies have decided that another benefit of being a citizen of their country should be full access to healthcare. It only makes sense that the US would add this benefit as well for all of its citizens

The Republicans are toast. I like John McCain, but seriously, if the Republicans win this November, its because the Democrats blew their own feet off.

in theory that sounds awesome

the only problem is, we cant just "add this benefit" without producing billions of billions of dollars in additional revenue to support this health care system...we produce that by raising taxes out the ass, and not just on big corporations...everyone feels the hit, even if you actually take responsibility for yourself and eat right and exercise and you're in good health

and you might say, ok, i'll pay some more of my salary to taxes if it means i can be healthy...that doesnt sound bad...then you figure out that govt healthcare compared to privatized healthcare that you could get for yourself or through your company, is like living in government housing or eating government cheese...but a free house and food sounded good!

eye be serious if u think countries like canada and the ones in europe have worse doctors and healthcare than the US. A big reason why the quality of life in those countries is better than the US is the healthcare.

medicare/medicaid is bullshit. and the only way everyone can go to a hospital is the ER. that isnt the solution

I tried watching McCain's speech, the only DNC or RNC anything I've seen (only heard all the MSM talking about it after the fact). And I have to say, I could only stomach about 10 minutes of him talking.

The guy has no life. He isn't even the old riled up crazy uncle you were a little afraid of at family gatherings until your late teens, he's the old grandpa that sits in the corner and nods off after the tryptophan kicks in without ever uttering a peep to anyone.

I can't get motivated to vote for a shell of a man like that. Wtf?

IIRC - a big part of the problem is that we are one of the only countries where the government does not negotiate the price of drugs from the drug companies. That puts in a position where we pay more than the rest of the world for our prescriptions, but at the same time we are neccessary for the drug companies - we are their profit margin.

Thank God he admitted that the GOP has been screwing up during the past 8 years. Seperating himself from their wasteful spending, corruption and left-wing ways will win over a lot of fence-sitting conservatives and independents.

^^^^^Being unhealthy in and of itself sucks regardless of whether you have healthcare or not. That's the motivation. In fact, people without healthcare have the worst health practices (imagine that).

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that mccain draws even with obama in the polls again.
