His passion and enthusiasm are obviously completely fake. He's like Stephen Colbert, if Colbert actually believed the literal words of his character. That is what's so sad, I think, about Beck supporters is that they take his obviously forced emotion outbursts as his genuine position, when like Limbaugh, he is milking his fooled viewers for ratings (and thus $$$).

Beck does nothing except make Conservatives look like idiots, and as a conservative you should not support him. There are MUCH better outlets for the conservative viewpoint that don't have the idiocy that Beck projects... even O'reilly, i'm sad to say, is better than Beck.

Why can't conservatives find commentators with some sort of intellectual base? Both Beck and Limbaugh have high school educations and have never held political office. Why should I believe they have some valid perspective on infinitely complex domestic and foreign policy issues?

William Safire, George Will and Charles Krauthammer are farily well-respected conservative intellectuals.

of course, the Beck/Limbaugh/Coulter worshipping moonbats like Burro, TKE<variant>, et. al. will probably start screeching that they are all liberal pantywaist traitors or some such shit.

White men burn down black church to spite Obama
Quote :
"Three men arrested in an arson that destroyed a predominantly black church in the Sixteen Acres neighborhood were acting in anger over the election of Barack Obama as president, according to a federal prosecutor.

The three charged are Benjamin F. Haskell, 22; Michael F. Jacques, 24; and Thomas A. Gleason Jr., 21, all of Springfield. All are white, and no pleas were entered.
"

Bill Kristol graduated magna cum laude from Harvard then later completed his PhD at the JFK School of Government.

among other things, he's worked at policy level for Reagan and Bush, taught at U Penn and Harvard, architected the extremely successful attacks against the Clinton Admin's health care plans, co-founded the Project for the New American Century, and currently edits the influential neo-con bible, The Weekly Standard.

Bill Kristol is the intellectual godfather of the neo-con movement. You may despise everything he stands for, but I don't think it's wise to call such an influential thinker a "clown"

any intellectual that gets into the field of public policy journalism is guilty of that at some point.

i'm having a hard time thinking of any serious progressive academics involved in policy and accessible to the public sphere. Noam Chomsky comes to mind, but he's pretty advanced age and unfortunately doesn't seem to have an intellectual heir.

ok, he said of Palin quitting, it was a "brilliant political move"

and these quotes..... come on. the guy's a joke
Quote :
"Kristol again pushed Palin when asked whom McCain should pick: “Sarah Palin, whom I’ve only met once but I was awfully impressed by—a genuine reformer, defeated the establishment up there. It would be pretty wild to pick a young female Alaska governor, and I think, you know, McCain might as well go for it.” On July 22nd, again on Fox, Kristol referred to Palin as “my heartthrob.” He declared, “I don’t know if I can make it through the next three months without her on the ticket.”"

dude, those quotes were before mcCain picked her, before the infamous interviews, before Tina Fey..

by all accounts, Palin DID appear to be an outsider, a 'outside-the-box' reformer, energetic, a very attractive mother of five. Choosing her had the very real potential of a brilliant coup de grace.... she had real star potential and many Dems were scared.... until, of course, she imploded on the national stage.

Kristol, if anything, is guilty of arrogance and poor judgement to push so hard for someone whom he'd "only met once". but if she hadn't turned out to be such a wilful idiot, her choice could have been a brilliant victory for McCain.

as for her resignation, the jury is still out. Krisol is putting the best spin possible on it. it may well turn out to be a great move for the Palins, they can make $TEXAS, and still probably never lose her base. Its not like liberals or moderates are going to be any less inclined to vote for her. what does she really have to lose?

i think theres two main reasons Kristol is still defending her. (1) she's really all the GOP has right now. They're not going to kick her to the curb just yet.... (2) i think he wants to bang her. badly.

i think it played a part. millions of people who wouldn't have normally paid strict attention were watching repeats on YouTube.

of course, if Sarah Palin would have just stuck to the scripts and quit trying to be such a mavericky maverick, SNL wouldn't have had so many opportunities to blast her.

Palin, the one-term governor, was asked what foreign policy experience she would bring to the ticket. To which she replied that her being governor of Alaska, and her state's proximity to Russia, was her foreign policy experience

Quote :
"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border."

-- Sarah Palin, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/25/palin-talks-russia-with-k_n_129318.html

"

this was expanded upon by the SNL writers as peeking out her window to see if Putin was "rearing his head", and then generalized to "I can see Russia"

Oh... wait, I see what you're saying now ...

yeah, that doesnt make any sense. i think JCASHFAN made a typo. the gist of joke is so ingrained in my head, i didnt notice he mixed up Alaska and Russia.

Obviously, the joke was, that she could "see Russia" from her house. Of course she never said those words, but it was illustrating her incredulity, as based on this interview:

Quote :
"COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land-- boundary that we have with-- Canada. It-- it's funny that a comment like that was-- kind of made to-- cari-- I don't know, you know? Reporters--

COURIC: Mock?

PALIN: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.

COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.

PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our-- our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia--

COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state. "

I mean look at you. How did being the perky girl from the morning gossip show enhance your credentials to become the CBS Evening News anchor? Sure you're ratings are the worst of the three networks and even some cable channels...but the point is they're giving you a chance...with little reason.

Glenn Beck analyzes fascist and communist symbolism in artwork at Rockefeller Center
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWL-pfCao-U

Glenn Beck debuts as Fox News art critic
http://www.artsjournal.com/man/2009/09/glenn_beck_debuts_as_fox_news.html

Quote :
"Beck opened the segment by arguing that a 1937 Carl Paul Jennewein intaglio carving, Industry and Agriculture, was 'communist' art because one figure is holding a longhammer and because the other is holding an agrarian tool, a sickle. Beck went on to imply that because an unnamed Rockefeller had put the Jennewein there, that Rockefeller was a commie symp."

Quote :
"Beck's next target was Attilio Piccirilli's 1936 Youth Leading Industry... a Pyrex-brick relief... Apparently aroused by a particularly striking, allegedly fascist male figure, Beck tore into the Piccirilli.

'Who is this? Who is this?' Beck asked, his voice rising to a yell. 'This is the strong leader taking that, using that industry and those machines to lead us into the, uh, bright future, led by our children. Gee, who's having indoctrination next week? Oh yeah, that's right, our president. Completely unrelated. This represents, at the time this was made, Mussolini. This represents Mussolini.'"

Most Major News Outlets Largely Ignore Van Jones Controversy

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/07/major-news-outlets-largely-ignore-van-jones-controversy/

Quote :
"Most of the major news outlets, like The New York Times and The Washington Post, ignored the swelling heat surrounding former White House environmental adviser Van Jones and the videos surfacing of his controversial statements....

For weeks, conservative media led by FOX News commentator Glenn Beck has been criticizing Jones, a former self-avowed Marxist and anarchist, for his remarks and radical views, including his February denunciation of Republicans as "assholes" -- a statement that came to light on Wednesday."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YzrsNRvYmI&feature=related
around the 3 minute mark

Glenn Beck cuts a video clip of obama and says that Obama said “judge me by who I associate with” which gets repeated and misquoted everywhere: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=obama+judge+me+associate+with&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

When the statement Obama ACTUALLY said was completely different that what Beck attributed to him, and didn’t mean at all what Beck was asserting it meant:

Quote :
"“[Let me tell you who I associate with]. On economic policy I associate with warren buffet and former fed chairman paul vogel. if i’m interested in figuring out my foreign policy I associate myself with my running mate joe biden or with dick luger, the republican ranking member on the senate foreign relations committee or general jim jones the former supreme allied commander of nato. Those are the people, democrats and republicans, who have shaped my ideas and who will be surrounding me in the white house”"

One of Fox’s most popular shows tells a blatant lie to smear the obama admin, and it gets repeated on blogs and in other media. What a great tool for a healthy democracy and informed electorate Fox News is. Does reporting the “other side” now mean lying?

^ i’m pretty sure people have a right to free speech in the US, and Van Jones being a self-proclaimed marxist doesn’t innately mean he’s negligent. He seems to be well renowned in the field of green tech and was a yale law grad. I think there is definitely would be a rational justification for keeping Van Jones on, but the republicans are not an opponent to try and use rationality against. Considering the relative insignificance of van jones’ position, the best move strategically was obviously to cut him loose, which was clearly what they were going to do a week ago.
