So... I was looking at some game reports and such and... WHY the HELL was Beck playing? If it wasn't for him we wouldn't even have needed overtime. 9/20/2008 3:49:38 PM |

^^^It was known ahead of time that Beck would get some reps. Wilson wasn't doing much early on, so I thought trying Beck was a good idea.
The INT was only partially his fault. It wasn't a great throw, but it was basically just bad luck. 9/20/2008 3:56:04 PM |

East Carolina's BCS-busting hopes all but over after OT loss to NC State
Quote : | "RALEIGH, N.C. -- Andre Brown's 10-yard touchdown run in overtime lifted North Carolina State to a 30-24 upset of No. 15 East Carolina on Saturday.
Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes -- including a game-tying 5-yarder to George Bryan with 1:12 left in regulation for the Wolfpack (2-2), seven-point underdogs who hung around all afternoon and never trailed by more than a touchdown.
Patrick Pinkney was 19-of-32 passing for 210 yards and a touchdown for the Pirates (3-1), whose BCS-busting hopes are all but over after their second straight loss to the Wolfpack. Pinkney's fumble on East Carolina's third play in overtime gave NC State a shot at the upset.
Brown hurdled defender J.J. Milbrook during a remarkable 16-yard run that set up the winning score, and finished with 73 yards and a 4-yard touchdown reception.
Wilson, a redshirt freshman making his first home start, went 21-for-31 for 210 yards and had a 20-yard TD throw to Williams. He energized a Wolfpack offense that entered with no touchdowns this season against teams from the bowl subdivision, and was one of just three in the FBS to rank 100th or worse in the four major stat categories -- rushing, passing, scoring and total offense.
NC State finished with 384 total yards against an East Carolina defense that entered as one of the nation's best.
Pinkney had a 20-yard scoring pass to Devon Drew for the Pirates, who have lost 14 of the 21 meetings in Raleigh and struggled for the second straight week. They opened the season with upsets of then-ranked Virginia Tech and West Virginia, but needed a final-moments scoring drive to outlast Tulane last week.
Van Eskridge returned an interception 23 yards for a score and third-stringer Norman Whitley added 83 yards rushing and a 42-yard scoring run for the Pirates, who never trailed in regulation but couldn't generate any separation against the most despised rival on its schedule.
After Ben Hartman's 21-yard field goal with 4 1/2 minutes left put the Pirates up 24-17, NC State's offense went to work: T.J. Graham returned the kickoff to the Wolfpack 45, and Wilson needed only two plays to move them into the red zone, hitting Jarvis Williams for 26 yards and Andre Brown for 17.
Five plays later, Wilson found a sliding Bryan in the end zone. The officials initially ruled the pass incomplete, but reversed the call after a review of about 5 minutes.
East Carolina went three-and-out on its final possession of regulation." |

GG Lee Fowler. You were correct on something. ESPN also showed lots of views of the Murphy Center and I believe one of them said they were better facilities than some NFL teams. Fowler must have wet himself.9/20/2008 5:28:46 PM |

I was honestly just in shock when Brown ran that td in to seal it, it has been so long since anything good has happened for state in these situations that I had already prepared myself for 'that nc state shit' that I was sure was on the way
also props to the entire stadium and student section for bringing the fucking house down in those pressure situations where our d needed stops. That shit was as raucous and loud as the UNC game last year and it definitely messed with ECTC's head. 9/20/2008 5:30:31 PM |

I mean 90% of the student section and band were waving their hands down in a quiet motion on plays like that, there was a pretty big ECU presence contributing to that noise too

A lot of the fans in the student section were doing the 'EVERY ONE QUIET' from what I saw (and did). I think more of the noise comes from other parts of the stadium. 9/20/2008 5:55:48 PM |

There was a microphone right in front of us between the band and the section I was in. That probably contributed to how loud we were on TV... there was a decent crowd near me making lots of noise when called for. 9/20/2008 5:58:59 PM |

ESPN generally does a lot better job at picking up on the atmosphere and placing mics so you can hear what the stadium noise is like, really adds to it when you have to watch on tv
And I want some frigging videos man, ESPN has that short little bit on the game page, but damn if I don't want to see/hear a lot of that over again

The band... not sure if it was because of where I was sitting and I could hear the brass instruments... But their timing was off. The idea of throwing out new chants was a good idea, but not 3 at once. Introduce one at a time might be better. 9/20/2008 6:06:32 PM |

Once again we really need to abolish that NNNNNNN CCCCCCCCC STAAAAAAAATE NCSTATE chant and replace it with an N. C. STATE. chant, the same basic beat as the 'block that kick' chant, because it was downright embarassing watching the student section try to do it.
People get to excited and start speeding up, and then you've got about 10 different tempos going at the same time and it just sounds like a big jumble, totally unorganized and there's no power behind it at all, you can't even make out what's being said.

I'm just saying introducing all three at one time just is too much. Especially when he was talking about it, feedback and acoustics suck so you couldn't understand him that well. Apache caught on in the past few years. The N C S U chant I think has potential, rather easy to follow along with.9/20/2008 6:49:58 PM |

yeah i really liked the ideas of the first and second songs/chants that they did at the beginning of the game, i'm just not sure if i liked the method.. it just seemed kind of weird the way it was introduced.
needs to be helped by messages on the jumbotron too.
but i liked them.
and yeah i can't remember if it was before the game or early in the game where the student section was first yelling N C STATE N C STATE and then it suddenly died down and came back in the form of NNNNNNNNN CCCCC STAAAAATE and you really couldn't understand it as well as you could before 9/20/2008 7:05:30 PM |
