I think you mean moot.

But nonetheless, I was simply saying that it's not going to be this runaway election that these guys are predicting.

The guy on NBC a second ago briefly hit on this, but this forum made Obama seem more stately.

I love it when McCain pointed at Obama and called him "that one."

He clearly lacks common sense when he openly disrespects his opponent without reservation on a national stage.

I am strictly making an observation about format -- any format where Mccain's frailty is highlighted is a loser for Mccain. Obama just has to not fall on his ass, and mccain is at a disadvantaged by default.

If mccain weren't behind so much, sitting down at a table like Edwards-Cheney in 2004 would be a good format for mccain.

I don't think Mccain will make up ground via debates. He needs to release an October surprise that will be bigger than the bad economic news.

^ indeed. Mccain needs to calm his ass down and act presidential.

The venom with which he said it was alarming.

The guy's got a temper problem.

If it doesn't cause a foreign relations fiasco, it'll give him a heart attack.

why is everyone freaking out about the "that one" comment? i didn't find it offensive at all. he was merely trying to be more creative than saying "Senator Obama" or "my opponent"...instead he basically pointed and said "that guy over there." Offensive? Disrepectful? Give me a break.

^^^That is exactly why subtle little missteps like "that one" matter. Not just the words, but the tone.

A president requires the utmost tact when dealing with people. McCain clearly is lacking in that area compared to Obama.

I didn't realize there was a name and precedence for this phenomena but I could see it happening in this case.

Despite all the support Obama is getting in the polls, I don't see nearly as many Obama/Biden signs/stickers as there were Kerry stickers 4 years ago.

It seemed like Obama was really intent on getting in the last word on every point. He held up a couple of topics so that he could get one last counterpoint in on the last one.

McCain, on the other hand, seemed to ramble a lot, losing track of the question in his zest to attack Obama and get his talking points in. He repeated himself several times as well.

are you really gonna decide your vote on a non issue such as that? i think the reality is that most people already know who they're going to vote for and neither candidate has really knocked any of these out of the ballpark. Obama resonates on economy, McCain on foreign policy. and with the election leaning more and more towards facing an economic meltdown, that obviously is not good for McCain, and the polls are showing that

I felt Obama came out slightly ahead, but not by much, especially since 2/3 of it was focused on Obama's strength, the economy. The online polls on CNN & MSNBC both have Obama listed as the victor at around the mid 80s, a small percent saying tie, and a small percent saying McCain did better (obviously these skew young & and aren't in any way a scientific poll). It'll be interesting to see what the real polls say when they start coming out. I think regardless of who people think won, this definitely wasn't the game changer McCain was looking for.

I really would have liked to have focused on something other than the economy for the brunt of the debate. I know it's an important issue right now, but it's all that is being discussed. There are other things that can be focused on as well.

Kerry led in all the exit polls before W squeaked out his victory in '04. Was he a victim of the Bradley effect?

The reality is that when a large portion of your support comes from young voters, the turnout is usually not gonna be as good as advertised. You just can't rely on them to show up at the election booth, no matter what they say in the polls.

^ going on your point, a lot of younger voters are in schools in different cities, counties or even state's than they are registered to vote. A lot aren't going to put forth the effort to get to their polling place on election day when they may have exams, homework, or a far drive.
