ditto on the first. I need to give the MTB more of a shot. First several times through last week and it really left me feeling kind of like Planet of Ice did: I really enjoy a few of the songs, but as a whole I don't enjoy the album as much as I did all their stuff through Menos El Oso. We'll see though.

I feel this album is more consistent than Planet of Ice after a few listens. Certainly some songs stick out a bit more than others, but I don't really get that gut feeling that any of the songs were just filler. I do think it is a bit of a departure from Highly Refined Pirates, but I can't really tell which direction. At times it seems like they're maturing and at times it doesn't (the awesomely cheesy 80's synth tom effects or the intro to Backwards Animal, for instance).

I also like the lyrics about making out with some chick at a party while her boyfriend is downstairs.

digging MTB so far on my first listen through it. They have always been a band i've listened to while riding or hanging out with other people (who enjoy indie like i do) but don't have any of their stuff personally. That may change.

Agreed on new Dr. Dog...way more likable/listenable than their last few.

The Twin Sister EP is gorgeous.

Finally got to listen to the new Band of Horses and my one word description is..mellow. I enjoyed the album, but man does it have a very low key vibe. Hell i could have dosed off at my desk listening to it. It reminds me of the Great Lake Swimmers, only with Bridwell's distinctive voice.

just went and checked that out and I have to agree. I can see how some people might not like that the vocalist sounds a lot like Chris Martin (coldplay) sometimes but I'm really getting a good vibe from that whole record. When I read different reviews on it I was seeing people compare it to coldplay, radiohead, !!!, battles, maps&atlases, crystal castles etc. so I really wasn't sure what to expect but I can see bits and pieces from all those bands mentioned.

Thanks for the heads up

Haven't heard this new Phosphorescent yet, but the tracklisting is insane and possibly amazing...

First of all, the full name of the album is Here's To Taking It Easy (Tho The Jaws Of This World Wish Only To Grab Hold Of Your Sweet Ass) (all caps, just like that) and the tracklist goes as follows:

It's Hard to Be Humble (When You're From Alabama)
Nothing Was Stolen (Love Me Foolishly)
We'll Be Here Soon
The Mermaid Parade
I Don't Care If There's Cursing
Tell Me Baby (Have You Had Enough)
Hej, Me I'm Light
Heaven, Sittin Down
Los Angeles

The arrangements on this Sleigh Bells LP leave something to be desired

Maybe I should stop getting attached to demos
