CJ is staying put. Lo said he wasn't going anywhere after Gottfried's presser. I would hope they'd encourage Ryan to stay in the fold.
It'd be scary next season to play with only one PG. If this was a threat, I'd think Gottfried would have already scoped out a backup. 4/25/2011 4:42:20 PM |

^^Scott Wood too!!!!
I think if we were in serious danger with Harrow we would have made a hard move for the Iowa pg. Although he would most likely have had to redshirt anyway.

Quote : | "C.J. Leslie's decision to stay at N.C. State a wise choice>
By Dan Wiederer
It's no secret. Throughout C.J. Leslie's freshman season at N.C. State - and even long before - I often criticized the athletic forward for his poor decision making, for his frequent lack of discipline, for his apparent and sometimes overzealous desire to be a bright lights superstar faster than he was ready to be.
Too many times, it seemed, Leslie wanted to force the issue. He'd fire up questionable shots when teammates were open and catapult out of position going for highlight reel rejections or tip slams. And when the Wolfpack struggled, his body language often gave off more negative energy than a night with Lewis Black.
On Monday, however, came news that could ultimately shape Leslie's career and leave him better equipped to build a lengthy and productive career at the next level. To the surprise of many, he decided to remain at N.C. State for at least another season.
Make no mistake: this was a wise move, perhaps a sign of vision and wisdom. And for N.C. State fans and new Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried, it's a decision that should be applauded and celebrated at least as much as Leslie's April 2010 commitment was. Immediately, this keeps State in position to contend for a 2011 NCAA tournament bid. Immediately, the Wolfpack has a better chance of making Gottfried's first season quite memorable.
For Leslie, this, without question, was a decision that took great restraint, something he frequently lacked during his freshman season. Instead of jacking up a selfish and ill-advised shot early in the shot clock, this time Leslie opted to pass, hoping to work himself into position for something even better. For that he should be commended, given ample positive reinforcement for his good judgment by all those around him.
Ready or not? It'd be foolish to analyze Leslie's decision to bypass the NBA Draft this time around and jump to definitive conclusions about what this says about his maturity and development. But one thing's for certain: from somewhere, Leslie assessed the details of his situation and heard the right advice.
His game isn't ready for the NBA just yet. That's obvious. But often times that doesn't matter. NBA scouts and general managers look at Leslie's leaping ability and his versatility and his raw athleticism and they see a kid who has the freakish physical tools that are required of 95 percent of the league's players. And that alone might have been enough to propel Leslie into the first round of the draft in June, especially with so many other prominent college stars - guys like North Carolina's Harrison Barnes and John Henson, Ohio State's Jared Sullinger and Baylor's Perry Jones - heading back to school.
But there's a huge difference between being a first round draft pick and becoming a player who can hang around the league for 10 or 12 years. And for Leslie to achieve the latter, he needs more time to develop. He needs more coaching. He needs to embrace the fundamentals of the game and sharpen his understanding of offensive and defensive principles.
Now, he'll get that chance to grow under Gottfried.
Stay tuned To be honest, as more college stars announced they were staying in college in recent weeks, I was beginning to think Leslie would be left with no choice but to leave for the NBA. After all, the returns of guys like Barnes, Henson, Sullinger and Jones have not only diluted the talent pool of this year's draft but have simultaneously strengthened next year's as well.
With all that factoring in, it would have been hard to blast Leslie for putting his name into the draft this year.
But again, with an eye on the big picture, getting drafted cannot be his predominant goal. Sticking around the NBA and becoming a reliable player for 10 years or more should be. And by staying in college another year, Leslie has given himself a much greater chance if enjoying long-term success.
I think back to what one NBA front office executive told me back in January and wonder if Leslie received and processed a flood of similar feedback.
"C.J. should stay in school," the scout said. "He's a bit of a 'tweener. He needs to do one of two things. He's going to need to bulk up and learn to play with his back to the basket a little bit at the (power forward) spot or he's really going to need to work on his perimeter jumper. Right now, he's just a guy who gets by on his athleticism. And he has a lot to figure out in terms of how to play. He's a talented kid with a phenomenal amount of athletic ability. He has so many things you can't teach. But he needs to stay in school another year or two and get a little more skill."
Leslie has chosen that path. And if he embraces his opportunity in his second year at State, he'll have the chance to quiet so many critics once and for all. This one included.

^^I really don't think Harrow visited KY. I know about th rumors and everything. But Brian Snow (does a lot of work with Scout) laid out the process (on twitter) of what Harrow would have had to do to be in KY yesterday (being in KY any earlier would be a violation, no?):
Quote : | "Listen I have no idea if Ryan Harrow was on UK's campus yesterday, but listen to the process he would have had to go through to get there... Harrow would have had to meet with Gottfried, get his release, already have a plane ticket somehow be on a direct flight from Raleigh to Lexington, get his release faxed to UK and through compliance Then he would have to get to the airport to a flight that happened to be taking off at the perfect time... I don't think it takes unreal sources to figure that the Harrow process of getting to Lexington didn't take place." |
Even coach Orlando Early said this in response to Brian Snow laying out that process:
Quote : | "@BSnowScout lol that would have been very hard to do huh!!!!!" |
