The point is, why do we need a study to tell us that kids can bonk their heads on floors and furniture?

If they really want to do a study, they need to see what the reaction time is for parents to put their phones down and get to the children once they've injured themselves.

As the name suggests, traumatic brain injuries are a bit more severe than bonking your head.

It's not a study of what can cause traumatic brain injuries. It's data collection to determine how real people in the real world receive real brain injuries. I haven't read the study, but I would guess it's for the purpose of figuring out how best to reduce traumatic brain injuries.

Still not sure how this is pussification. Is the prevention of severe injuries with potentially lifelong aftereffects considered pussification?

^^complaints about money spent on frivolous studies can be be valid, but a major media news story is almost never a good representation of a study.

There is a whole conference on giving awards for the most ridiculous sounding study, but then the researchers get up and describe it and there is almost always more to it than it seems.
