Carolina Rising, supposedly a "social welfare" group, spent 97% of its funds campaigning for Thom Tillis in 2014, violating its 501(c) status.

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2015/10/political-nonprofit-spent-nearly-100-percent-of-funds-to-elect-tillis-in-14/

You know, all those tea party groups back in 2010 that complained about receiving extra IRS scrutiny--I always had a strong suspicion that many of those groups actually deserved extra scrutiny due to violations just like this one. I think this demonstrates my suspicions are at least somewhat justified.

Nearly all of that $4+ million they spent came from a single source too, and that all of their spending went to directly help a single candidate. And consider the work history of Dallas Woodhouse, Carolina Risings leader. Worked for Americans for Prosperity->Carolina Rising->now is executive director of the NCGOP. Campaign finance is totally out of control and needs to be THE issue in 2016 IMO.

One of the common refrains from Hannity, Rush, and possibly others is they often bemoan how Republicans are characterized as wanting "Dirtier air and dirtier water". Well it is certainly challenging to overcome this critique when Gov. Pat! just signed the aptly nicknamed Polluter Protection Act which strips away numerous air quality monitors and eviscerates development regulations concerning critical riparian buffers. You have to admire, yet stand agate with incredulity, the new, likely ALEC driven, orthodoxy from the Right in regards to environmental stewardship which is "well, there must not be a problem if no problem is detected (never mind that any salient attempts at monitoring have been raped, pillaged, and abated)."

Anonymous is doing another round of "OpKKK" to out KKK members. Apparently Thom Tillis may be among them:

http://pastebin.com/Yh2muT9r (Pastebin is often used by hackers who leak information).

1.United States Senator From North Carolina: Thomas Tillis aka Thom Tillis: Age 55: Wife Susan Tillis, Both living in: Cornelius, North Carolina.Known KKK Affiliated group:United Northern and Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Thornton.

#OpKKK is the twitter hashtag.
Obviously verification is needed but in the past this has caused a lot of trouble for KKK groups.

are we supposed to pretend that a random pastebin list is evidence of Tillis actually being a member?

but i think the only trouble they caused in the past was when they had pictures, anyone can just put some politicians on an anonymous list. this is a non-story, it's not even worth considering unless they have something to add credibility.

So did I miss something here? Why exactly is anyone treating this as a legitimate story? Are my GOP tinted glasses blinding me from the obvious truth? I mean when is the last time the KKK was even relevant?

Not sure what you mean by "relevant" here, but is the relevancy of the KKK even relevant? I mean, the Nazi party isn't relevant in America, either, but I sure as hell don't want my representative to be a Nazi, so what point are you even trying to make here? Are you seriously implying that since the KKK is irrelevant, it's OK to have KKK members as representatives? (I'm certainly willing to believe you didn't actually intend it that way, but it sure as hell sounds like you did to me).

FWIW, I've been led to understand the KKK has had quite a resurgence since Obama took office.

Having said that, I do agree that some of the media may definitely be jumping the gun here. Not sure what "obvious truth" you may have been referring to, but it's not at all obvious to me whether Tillis is a Klan member or not (everything I've learned about this came from this thread). If he is, however, I definitely think he's got some 'splainin to do (at the very least).

Ok, so let me state for the record the KKK is bad and KKK members shouldn't be Senators. My point was simply if you were going to make a damning accusation against a Republican this is just a stereotypical way of doing so, bc we're all racists. If the KKK is in the news, it's a story about how few members they even have nowadays.

the amount of members the KKK currently has or doesn't have is absolutely meaningless

you really aren't doing yourself any favors by bringing it up

^^I can agree with that; like I said, I'm in absolutely no position to know the truth about Tillis. The reports may just be a smear campaign, I really don't know.

However, just as it's unfair to paint all GOP members as racists, it's also unfair to paint all Democrats as race baiters. In other words, it would be wrong to pretend that every accusation of a Republican as a racist is race baiting; some of them actually are racist.

And about the size of the KKK: like I said before, the last news I heard about them wasn't how few they were; it was about how they've grown during the Obama presidency.

It appears someone did this ahead of Anon's release on November 5th to try and discredit them. That is why I said verification was needed. With that said it wouldn't be shocking to find out Tillis is a racist.

http://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2015/12/07/n-c-legislators-demand-answers-about-millercoors.html

You become one of the most powerful persons in NC politics. You create the most (so-called) business-friendly climate in decades. You cut big business taxes and eviscerared the unemployment system. In thanks, one of the largest employers in your sleepy armpit town shuts down as a part of a multi-billion dollar multi-national merger deal.

You send a stern letter to congress DEMANDING answers........

Shouldn't you be doubling down on your free market ideology? Don't bootstraps exist in your town too?

Here's to hoping the good people of Eden recognize where unemployment went and send some letters demanding answers too.

Does the NC GOP have any credibility?

They get away with sodomizing environmental regulations, support corporate cronyism, and screwing over the average joe. Just remember though! They love Jesus, want to protect you from the inconvenience of having more paper-work to get your guns, and one day when you are a millionaire to you'll benefit from all the hardwork the NC GOP has done! Plus the environment is just something silly that LIBERAL HIPPY SOCIALIST bitch about to take away jobs from Hard-working truck driving blue-collar North Carolinians!

http://myfox8.com/2013/07/10/nc-senate-approves-drug-testing-for-welfare/

Apparently we're about to drug test poor people who need welfare, which based on other states, is a huge waste of money, and just a bad idea in general. Something tells me these reps won't be so enthusiastic to drug test themselves or people claiming other tax credits.

He doesn't even have a primary opponent, but there is a movement amongst the house conservatives to challenge his position. I doubt anything will come of the campaign finance issues before the election.

Yay! New Sales tax on services starts today! Unless a majority of a business's revenues come from product sales (i.e. They already collect sales tax) or wait.....that's not right, no....maybe......

*sigh* More half-assed legislation with a ton of questions surrounding it from the NC GOP

Executive Director of the NCGOP (and establishment/Koch Whore) has frozen the NCGOP Chair (zany tea partier) out of the NCGOP email system. The chair says it's because he's black, I'd love to see Woodhouse get the boot.

ITS A TARPPPPP!!!!

it could be my bias, but it seems like harnett fell for some entrapment. I say I'm biased because Woodhouse is a known lying shitbag. While harnett, though out there and having a shitty ideology, seemed honest (as far as politicians go). If republican Jesus exists, this will all blow up in Woodhouse's face somehow and he can move on to leech off some other state GOP party.

And it begins. The end is near for the current chairman.

https://twitter.com/RaleighReporter/status/711771216151838720?lang=en

The NCGOP is one step closer to alienating its base and becoming irrelevant like many political parties before it. All the big donors in the world can't work the polls and turn out the vote. The question now becomes what is the issue(s) the new conservative party will form itself around?

I'd love nothing more than to see Woodhouse left holding the bag, but I just don't see it happening. How many NC republicans, even the fairly active ones, are following this story at all? You prob run in those circles more than I do, but I just haven't seen this catch fire at all. Most "active" republicans I know don't read the local papers either, where this might actually get some play. I see things continuing as usual.

Smh at this special session discrimination bill. I understand the NCGOP's boner for "hateslation" but at the same time they seem almost ashamed of it. Why else for all the secrecy, not releasing the bill until committee, etc? Shouldn't they be parading this shit through the news? Cowards.
