Fuck. Philly dammit.

Looked like he had very little sense of urgency trying to recover the initial drop.

Fuck that man. Pittsburgh sucks. And they're running us.

If Philly hadn't had such a nice game at WR, he'd probably be cut after that.

doesn't help when he's back pedaling away from defenders because of his shitty OL.

But, yes, it does seem like he throws of his back foot kinda...or doesn't always step into his throws. But I'm far from qualified to critique a QB's mechanics.

Having DeAngelo would've really helped establish the run in this one. I was hoping/expecting we'd be able to run the ball against PIT.

That was beautiful blocking on that last TD run for Pitt. And blount did his job and ran over his defender.

I couldn't watch the game b/c of work but judging by this thread my fears have come true. O line is garbage. and they will continue to be garbage the whole year. Get use to this

The OL isn't good but this is mostly Shula being a fucking idiot. When your OL sucks and your QB holds the ball forever you get rid of the 5 and 7 step dropbacks on every down. The Steelers are a good example of what we should be doing, tbh

Offensive line wasn't the problem. The defense didn't play well, which wasn't really expected. Oh well.

^^OL wasn't much an issue in weeks 1 and 2. But it was pretty bad last night. But you're not wrong about the DL either. They weren't any good last night either.

I agree with this. Somebody mentioned it last night, and I know I've seen it before too. But Roethlisberger and Cam aren't really all that different. Except for the fact that the Steelers have a better run game, better OL, and better WRs.

I was way too optimistic about the running game this season. 172 yards through three games, which actually sounds better than it is. Williams looked decent but has missed 2/3 games, and the rest can't get it done healthy or hurt. Offensive line sucks, but the real problem is all that money invested in backs that don't produce. Not to mention $13M on that dumbass Hardy who cost us other free agent signings we really could have used. Really all comes back to Hurney with his bad contracts and dead money all over the place.

Bottom line is the offensive line is just going to have to play better, or it's going to be a long season. Cam isn't getting any healthier.

I think resigning cam is a mistake. He's always going to be a middle of the pack qb in my opinion. He really hasn'tIimproved much at all from his rookie season.

You can win with a $6 mmillion cam but it's going to be too difficult with a $20 million one.

I just think the correct strategy in this nfl landscap e is to flush your qb every 4 years and start from scratch with a cheap qb

it's too risky to pay an eli, flacco, or Dalton type qb huge money.

Especially given that I don't expect cam to age gracefully.

Hurney killed us during cams window by signing a bunch of ludicrous contracts at positions like rb which have zero value

Not resigning Cam would be ludicrous. At his best he's a competent game manager from the pocket and a play-maker outside of it. That's more than enough to win a Super Bowl with the right pieces around him. I think he's looked better than ever throwing the ball this season, and has shown steady improvement as a passer throughout his career. I'm not giving that up to play the QB draft lottery. Cam's contract will hurt, but not as much as defensive ends and running backs who don't produce at all, which is the real problem.

The Panthers are now 1-6 in SNF. NBC won the rights to Sunday Night Football back in 2006. That was also the first year since the Panthers won their last playoff game. We all know about the 2 playoff losses, but we've been putrid on the NFL's biggest weekly showcase being blown out by the Cowboys, Saints, and Steelers in that time. We also lost homefield advantage in 2008 to the Giants.

Certainly isn't ludicrous to suggest saving money at the qb position.

The 49ers, eagles, Seahawks are all good recent examples.

the Seahawks totally lucked into their situation right after spending a ton of money on Matt Flynn

can't compare thier QB-contract situation with ours at all

How did the 49ers save money at the QB position? They just gave a terrible passer a giant contract. Granted they can cut him at any point and there isn't a ton of guaranteed money, but still.

Last year's success covered up how fucking terrible an OC Shula is. I really wish we could have brought back Chud when Cleveland fired him. He actually knew how to adjust his play-calling based on the strengths and weaknesses of the personnel

Yeah, Cam scrambling for first downs covered up a lot of deficiency in our offense last year. That's just not going to be there while he's hurt. Rest of the team has to step up, play callers on down.

No you just draft 3rd rd abs and with the $20m you save you surround them with talent.

Or you take a top notch guy like luck or newton and save 14m.

I just think it's bad strategy to lock up a middling guy. I disagree that they add value with that huge cap figure and I don't see cam developing into an elite qb.

I don't think it's ludicrous to give him 20m but I do think it will confine us to mostly mediocre seasons going forward . Particularly once star and Kuechly get expensive.

I think at the qb position you either pay an elite qb who can really run your offense or you get a cheap hired gun.
Newton just doesn't deliver enough value at 20m+ per year

I mean, we're giving Cam $7M a year right now, and $13.1M to a dipshit who beats women and can't play as a result. I don't think starting every year with -$20M on the cap will hurt us too badly, especially once all the unproductive contracts and dead money are gone.

All the money Cam will make going forward will come out of the RB contracts that dipshit Hurney saddled us with. The only good thing that came out of that is we couldn't give Hardy a huge longterm extension this offseason because we're still stuck with them for a couple more seasons (I think we can cut DeAngelo after this year but Stewart is the more worrisome contract). We'd be really fucked if we had to cut Hardy after giving him like $35 mil guaranteed.

It'd be nice to have some cash to play with right now, though. Dicking around with Roman Harper and Philly Brown is going to cost us.

Hopefully Deangelo will be back because

Quote :
"DeAngelo Williams could return this week after missing the last two with a hamstring. Jonathan Stewart left the game last week with what coach Ron Rivera called a “severe sprain” of his knee, pending an MRI.

If they’re not signing a back now, they must think Williams will play this week, because the only other healthy back on the roster is practice squad promotion Darrin Reaves."

I have no idea who Darrin Reaves is
