I have reservations about VP Harris. Not because I think she’d be a bad president, I’d actually prefer her running the country (both domestic and foreign policy) to Biden, but because I question if she can draw the crucial cross-section of voters needed to win this stupid ass race.

The Biden campaign has admitted its path to victory requires winning Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. VP Harris’s path looks the same. These are the significant constituencies they’d need to win those states (IMO, based on my understanding of how Biden eeked out 2020.)

-Middle-aged to old Suburban women: The media is going to run with (real or made up) allegations of VP Harris sucking dick to get to her political position. We saw glimpses of this in 2020. It will get worse. There is nothing older suburban women love to pass judgement on more than a hussy. The allegations don’t have to be based on facts, not in this environment, people only need to feel they are true. I don’t think VP Harris can pull more of these voters than Biden.

-Union Workers/Factory Workers: There is no way VP Harris, a Female, Black, Californian, pulls more of this constituency than “Scranton Joe.” Not to mention Biden was the first President to visit a picket line. I hate that this is a given, but that doesn’t change reality, there is no way VP Harris pulls more of this group than Biden.

-Millenial Progressives/Gen Z: more of a turnout issue than who they actually vote for. We would be inundated by “HaRRiS iS a cOp!!1!1!” propaganda in the event of a Harris Candidacy. This was actually pretty effective in the 2020 primary. That was just a taste of what we’d see in this race. Every prosecution she ever completed would be trickled out as a “scandal” in left wing publications for months. It’s a question mark if these voters will even show up for Biden despite being one of the most progressive presidents in history and earning the endorsement of “Squad” politicians.

Please note that I’m not blaming VP Harris. Biden could have embraced being a bridge and let Harris build relationships with these groups over the last 4 years and I wouldn’t think Harris has so much ground to make up. Also note that I think most of the other proposed candidates (Buttigieg, Newsome, Michelle Obama, etc)struggle with these groups as much or more than VP Harris.

I think it’s pathetic that the country has to kowtow to these specific groups, but I do think that’s reality. No one holds up with these groups like Biden, dead or alive. It is what it is *shrug*
