the thing is, if CJ comes to State and we do as well as I think we would with Harrow, LB, CJ, Tracy, Howell then the attention will come. We will find ourselves on tv a lot more somehow...we will be ranked, we will be talked about, we will do well in the tourney.

We sucked, no one saw us and JJ still got drafted in the first round.

You ever driven through NC?

---- Also, I guess we are officially completely out of it with Cothron? Saw on PP that he listed his five finalist and we aren't there.

^^If we end up on TV a lot more, it will be because the media looked at our lineup and decided they wanted to carry more of our games. The entire broadcast schedule is set before the season begins and rarely, if ever, changes, regardless of how well/poor a team is playing. That being said, I think a lineup of Harrow/Brown/Leslie/Smith/Howell will result in us not trying to find ways to watch a game on ACC Select for free .

Spencer Hawes, Brandan Wright, Eric Gordon, and DeMar DeRozan were all freshmen over the last few seasons who probably needed some more work

yet all were lottery picks

Little Head Ced was fun to root for when he wasn't bricking dunks into the second level of the RBC.

all he did was get the ball in the paint and dunk it every time. it had more to do with the defense duke was playing than exemplary post play. didn't duke still win that game?

The Defense that Duke played is they let Ced go one on one with "the landlord" and he absolutely tore him to shreds so yeah Ced had some potential.

The only problem is it turned out that Shelden Williams has had about as successful a NBA career as Ced has...

Duke's defense is an agressive man to man overplaying the wings/passing lanes. They let everyone go one on one, if you have guys that can put it on the floor and go to basket. It helps if you have a big that can do that, so they don't have anyone to flop under the basket. Josh Powell had his breakout game against Duke to make him think he was ready for the pros.

Ced simmons is actually having a pretty good season in china this year but I doubt many of yall follow the cba as closely as I do. He just never learned to rebound well enough to hack it in the nba.

Josh powell had a monster acc tournament. When you put up big numbers agaisnt chris bosh, eric williams/danelius, and shelden williams I can see how you might want to test the waters.

Also powell was upset that everything was called for hodge and felt slighted which he had a right to be since he was virtually as good of an option.

When he realized he wouldn't be selected in the first round he tried to come back to school but it was too late because his family had already taken money.

He worked his ass off and has had a solid nba career carving a roster spot out and getting sporadic minutes for a title team.

2011 4* PG Marquis Rankin, from Charlotte, committed to VT today. I know we didn't offer him, but I'd really like to get a decent PG to start learning from Harrow and Mays just in case of a worst case scenario occurs. Then we land a star PG in the 2012 class like Harrow that will take over the starting job once he leaves and still have a quality backup.

Interview with CJ Leslie from Boxofmess.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXd6uF4cD5k

Highlights:
Start - Man that girl is short...
0:30 - List of schools? "Kentucky, UConn, FL, NC State", says he has no favorites.
0:55 - What he likes about each school - nothing worth mentioning, again State is the last of four schools he mentions.
1:30 - Says he decommitted to "play the field", same stuff he's said before.
1:45 - Not sure why LC decommitted, heard it was b/c LC thought he (CJL) was coming to State, but doesn't know anything more than that.
2:00 - What he's looking for - more about how he's "playing the field"
2:50 - John Wall - Says Wall is a friend, but "I won't go to UK (just) b/c of John Wall"
3:25 - Role of his Mom in recruiting? (mentions that CJ's Mom answered a lot of Q's on other recruiting sites) - "She's obviously the biggest (influence in recruiting)... she's the most important person in my life..."
4:30 - Outakes - noteables listed below
4:40 - Brandon Knight does something to make CJ laugh, gets called a "jokester" by the host
5:10 - No planning on being a father anytime soon ("That's a fact right 'der")

Thoughts
- Can't say I like him listed State last. I get the impression that State is a school that he might "end up at if he doesn't like his other options. (-)
- Sounds like his Mom is still the biggest influence (+)
- John Wall isn't going to be a big factor in his recruitment (+)
- Looks like LC's decommittment had nothing to do with CJ unless Luke bought into rumors that CJ committed. (more suck)
- Put the silent verbal talk to rest. CJ definitely looked like a guy still mulling over his options. (-)
- We should all assume that he has no timetable for his committment (suck)

Overall - As expected I think that he's still leaning toward UK, hence he always mentions them first. UF and UConn are the "new suitors on the scene" and he's taking them into under consideration. State is the old girlfriend that he dumped b/c (A) he thought he might do better, and (B) he knew State would wait around in case he came back. Honestly, I'd say it's still anyone's game. Just depends on what he decides is most important to him.

Given all I know to this point, I think there's two possible explanations that fit all the facts:

Scenario A: CJL is genuinely undecided. He's leaning toward UK b/c it's a high profile school where he'll get exposure and play with top talent, but he's not convinced. He lists UK first b/c they seem like the best option right this second, but honestly he's still waiting to be "wowed" (hence taking the trip to UConn). He still likes NC State for sentimental reasons, but going to State feels like "settling for the nice girl when you might get the supermodel down the street." His Mom, friendship with Ryan, and the appeal to playing in his hometown all pull on his heart, just not enough to recommit. Uk has the lead, but State is still in the running.

Scenario B: CJL wants to go to UK, period. The only reason he's waiting is to see how their roster will look once we know who is and isn't going into the draft. He might also be waiting to see who commits, like Terrance Ross (similar position, size, etc). In the meantime he's keeping State on the list for sentimental reasons and taking the opportunity to visit other schools on the off-chance he likes them better. He probably will feel bad about leading State on like he has, but hey, that's the nature of recruiting, right?

Prediction - If playing in his hometown appeals to him, he goes to State. If he'd rather go blaze a trail in a new environment, he's gone. Either way, I wish he'd find the right school soon, b/c I can't take much more of this...

I still don't even know why he lists UConn. They are barely recruiting him and don't have a scholarship available right now anyway. I'm sure that big sucky center who just graduated isn't going to come back for his fifth season but he might... and anyway they are still in it with four of the top five guards still on the table and they need one of them way more than Leslie.

^ What I meant by "new suitors" is that they're new on his radar. In the past year the list of schools he's given in interviews has consisted of UK first, State last, and 2-4 schools that have contacted him recently. Those 2-4 schools have cycled in and out, but UK and State have consistently made the list.

Mark it down, it'll be UK or State. Everyone else IMO is wasting their time. I just hope State isn't wasting its time too.

i've seen Leslie list Kentucky and State last plenty of times. For all we know that's the order in which he was last contacted by them, or the order he last saw their hats, or any random thing. he might be a little devious and purposely mixes the schools around as to confuse people and make them read into things that aren't there

and UF and UCONN have been recruiting him for a while, they just aren't getting anywhere with him

holy hell man, that article is almost a year old, has been talked about extensively on this site (probably in the first 50 pages of this thread) and doesnt have much bearing on his decision at this point.

the interviewer is a douchebag state-hater and obviously was making a point to talk trash about state to one of their biggest recruits

I recently reposted it in the Mcdonald's All-American Thread, since Jay Williams misquoted it on-air, and said that State fans were coming up to Leslie and telling him he was too good to go to State.

^ They're saying it's likely to be May now over on PackPride. Most are speculating that he's waiting to see who stays and who leaves Kentucky before he makes his decision. I think April 25th is the cutoff day for staying in/withdrawing from the NBA Draft, so I seriously doubt we hear anything before then. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a John Wall part 2 situation.

Actually, April 25 is the cutoff day to enter the draft. May 8 is the deadline to withdraw and return to school. It will be interesting this year, because May 8 allows players to do individual workouts with some teams, but not go to the draft combine, and is even before the draft lottery.

The NCAA moved the deadline to return up by about a month because of so many players testing the waters, and teams not knowing who they would have for the next year.
