I actually do have a question...

A City ordinance enacted several years ago requires payment of an annual tax of $500 by each household in City with two or more children. The tax applies only to people who have become residents of City since the effective date of the ordinance. Its stated purpose is to reimburse City in part for the additional public school expenses and costs of recreational facilities attributable to the new residents.

Paul and Pat, husband and wife, became residents of City since the effective date of the tax ordinance and live alone with no children. They have filed suit against City in federal court for a judgment declaring that the ordinance violates their rights under the U.S. Constitution to familial privacy, to due process, and to equal protection.

During discovery, Paul and Pat revealed that they are medically unable to conceive a child and have applied to adopt twins. Although the court had ordered that this information remain confidential and all references to it were ordered sealed, City's attorney has disclosed the information in a press release. Paul and Pat have amended their complaint to allege a third claim against City: i.e., that the disclosure by City's attorney violated their privacy rights under the U.S. Constitution, entitling plaintiff's to an injunction prohibiting further disclosures and allowing the court to impose sanctions for violation of its confidentiality order.

City has moved to dismiss the entire complaint on the following grounds: (1) the plaintiffs lack standing to challenge the tax ordinance, and (2) that, in any event, none of the alleged constitutional rights claimed by Paul and Pat were violated by City.

How should the court decide City's motion to dismiss? Discuss.

^^ i dunno - its all pretty interesting to me. even stuff like mergers and acquisitions is interesting to me. i concentrated in business law

but i LOVE public interest law - esp international human rights law. but i have to pay back my loans so getting into those fields is tough.

i also think i'd really like medical malpractice. /typical lawyer

no but really. i think i'd love to be a plaintiff's attny. but i'd also love to be a public defender.

i don't know though i like it all. i always pull for the underdog though so that is rough because i want to help small businesses and poor people. but not super poor people - super poor people can find lawyers. but a lot of people are shafted by the legal process because they do not qualify for assistance w/ an attorney but they can't afford one on their own. THOSE are the people i want to help. but i also need to make $$. so it ends up making me sad a lot.

^ yes and no. i mean i applied other places and got into one i wanted to go to / wait listed at one i really wanted to go to but i just took my name off the waitlist and was deciding between vermont and elon. in the end i'm glad i went to elon given everything that happened cause it let me be close to my family. i was thinking the other day that if i had gone to vermont i probably wouldn't have graduated this year cause obviously vermont is NOT close to NC so my school would have gotten really fucked up. really the main place i sometimes think i should have gone is central though. cause its soooo much cheaper. sigh. but i didn't want to go there.

where i REALLY wanted to go at first when i had the grades was USC (cali). but then i had this semester where i went through a "fuck school" phase and got an A, a D and 2 Fs. that kinda killed my gpa. i only went to the one class i liked (african american history, lol). whooopssss
