Thanks for the compliment. I plan on continuing this exercise regimen for the rest of my life, so such comments are helpful. I couldn't imagine what would happen if I ever got off my fitness plan after being on it so long (1.5 years is a long time for me, given that I've never exercised before in my life).5/6/2010 10:59:13 PM |

last few times I had my blood pressure taken at the free thingy at walmart it's been high like 138/81. I decided to buy a little portable one for home and keep an eye on things
this morning I was 109/77. This was shortly after I woke up and before breakfast.
if i'm gonna start taking measurements regularly, say 1-2x/week should i be consistent with the time of day and manner in which i take my blood pressure, similar to weighing myself?
i have a feeling my numbers at walmart are high because it's after lunch, in the afternoon, and I think the cuff is a little small for my arm 5/7/2010 9:06:06 AM |

^yes you should be consistent. make sure youre sitting down and try to keep your arm level w/ your heart. p meals can make your bp go up but im not sure by how much, nor am i sure of the time you should wait after....

I go to the Gold's in Cary. you should be able to get them to waive the $150 membership fee.
don't try to save $10 a month to go to an overcrowded gym. There's nothing more annoying than a line at the one squat rack for people doing curls, shrugs, and all sorts of exercises other than squats.

8 protein shakes so far. I am going to try ~12 a day for a week.
Will this kill me? I'm going to subject my body to large amounts of protein to see what happens. Retarded calories using mostly carbs isnt getting me anywhere. 5/9/2010 7:54:38 PM |

What do you expect to accomplish by consuming massive quantities of protein, asides from getting fat(ter) (assuming you don't spend your entire day working out)?
If you're trying to lose weight, then a reduction in calories should be your main aim. Obviously, cutting out carbs is a goal. However, simply shifting where you get your calories from isn't going to do anything.
[Edited on May 9, 2010 at 9:48 PM. Reason : Seriously, nobody needs 12 protein shakes a day.]5/9/2010 9:48:17 PM |

this man is an anomaly of science, you can throw anything you want at his metabolism and he just doesn't gain fat, I bet he either doesn't absorb half the calories he consumes, it just doesn't seem to balance the energy equation otherwise. This asshole usually eats 4000 calories of fast food and just remains 7% body fat with moderate exercise, its complete bullshit. He needs to be a case study for some sort of metabolism malfunction. I told him to tone back on the amount of carbs and just increase protein...so he's still aiming for the same calories per day, not really going to get fatter by eating the same calories as he has. If anything, I think him eating more protein will result in getting heavier, gaining more lean tissue.
I like to think of proteins as bricks for building the house, and the fats/carbs are the labor for assembling those bricks into something.5/9/2010 11:38:35 PM |

you need carbohydrates in conjunction with that protein in order for your body to secrete sufficient insulin to actually make use of the protein you're eating. just drinking a bunch of shakes won't do anything beneficial for him unless he's mixing it with a carbohydrate. 5/9/2010 11:53:21 PM |
