Hey just an FYI guys - I am having a party Sunday Nov 14th from 1-3 for my friends/family. I create jewelry, hand-dyed silk scarves, sunglass/eyeglass straps, nametag holders, etc and my stuff is REALLY reasonable - Avg price = $12. It was suggested I have this party for anyone who wants to buy hand-crafted Christmas presents. Let me know if you want me to send you the evite. I live in Raleigh off Glenwood Ave. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served and feel free to bring a friend! 10/15/2010 3:03:50 PM |

surprised you need one, you look thinner than average in your pix

Nope, I'm a size 12 (usually, we all know vanity sizing means wearing a huge range of sizes) with pretty thick legs.10/16/2010 9:33:21 PM |

plus size retailers usually have the best selection of wide calf boots. sometimes they come along with a wide foot, sometimes not.

At what point do you think that going without washing your hair turns from not washing it because it's better for your hair to just nasty.
I just recently tried an experiment to see how long I could go before I couldn't go any farther, and it's been about two weeks. Most of that time I had my hair up in a pony tail or bun. So when I took my hair down this morning to shower it wasn't oily anymore than what would look like after a day or two without a shower. I had some extra knots in it...but other than that, if I had brushed it out and put some powder in my hair to dry up what oil was in there then no one would ever be able to tell that I went that long without washing my hair. 10/19/2010 11:12:05 AM |

i just don't think i could ever do that...
my hair is so naturally oily that i had to add degreaser to my shampoo growing up...and i HATED washing my hair as a child...and often went for days on end without it...
my hair just starts to stink and my head itches after just a few days...

Yeah the only thing that made me wash my hair was my scalp starting to itch...but I remember reading somewhere online that if you stop washing your hair all together after three weeks it will always look like it's been washed and the oil will even itself out. I dunno if I could ever do that though. 10/19/2010 11:28:00 AM |

Yeah I don't know how that can be done either. I actually shampoo and condition my hair at least once a day... Sometimes on Sundays I won't wash my hair because I have just been hanging out in my PJ's all day but that is the extent of it. 10/19/2010 11:42:27 AM |

i wash my hair every 2 to 3 days, condition maybe twice a week. i don't really know what's best though it's just more convenient for more to not condition all the time because it takes so long 10/19/2010 11:47:54 AM |

I'm every 2 to 3 days. But that's because I typically go swimming or wakesurfing/wakeboarding a couple of times a week, and lake/pool water is not good for your hair. 10/19/2010 4:25:54 PM |

I am so jealous of you girls that can go so long in between hair washing. My hair is so oily that I have to wash it daily and even by the end of the day it looks disgusting. Worked well in the 90s for grunge but does not mesh so well with my preppy persona haha.

I swim frequently and I've found that wetting your hair in the shower before putting on a swim cap helps a LOT. If you hair is already wet, it won't soak up chlorine. Then all you have to do is rinse instead of washing. To take it to the next level, you can do wet hair AND conditioner. Might look dorky wearing a swim cap out in the lake though
Also on the topic of hair washing ... like other people said if you wash less often, in a few weeks your hair will get used to it and produce less oil. You don't have to go cold turkey, you can just cut back. Worked for me, although mine wasn't very oily to begin with. ]10/19/2010 5:39:13 PM |

^^ great advice. I always did that when I swam. But I don't swim laps anymore ... Just lounge by outdoor pools, so the swim cap thing isn't an option. I'm usually just playing water volleyball or hopping in the pool to cool off. I use leave-in conditioner, which helps protect my hair, but I hate the way it makes my hair feel, so I wash it out. 10/19/2010 7:42:52 PM |

During the summer if I swam in the pool I would just rinse my hair afterwards. I would wash my hair after being in the ocean though, because salt does nothing for it.
I've actually noticed that after a full day of having my hair down and doing like I normally do it is still actually very not oily right now. Normally it would already have that bit of oil look to it. 10/19/2010 10:17:10 PM |

Jen, John Freida used to make a product like that where you can spray it into your hair. I used to have it. I think it was called "beach waves." you might be able to find it at ulta or target. It was a while ago so I don't know if they still have that particular product but let me know if you find it or something similar because I loved it. 10/19/2010 11:08:12 PM |

Hey girls!!!! please help me pick out a new foundation, I'm having such a hard time trying to find what works for my dry/oily combination, acne-prone skin. It needs to be non comedogenic, doesn't make oily skin worse, provides light to moderate coverage, doesn't settle into pores and cake up, and stays nice and matte during humidity and sweating. I also need a shade that has yellow tones in it, pink tones look so fake and terrible on me. I found a great store brand product, L'oreal Visible Lift Serum Absolute, which does all things perfectly except it makes me break out. I can't spend more than $50.
One of the biggest contenders is Prescriptives Virtual Matte.

^ I had my make-up lady for the wedding mix me up a bottle of foundation (the brand is Motives by Loren Ridinger). She charged me $45 for the bottle, and I've barely put a dent in it (though I hardly where makeup anywho). This is one place you can look into it: http://motivescosmetics.marketamerica.com/
It sounds like I have many of the same skin issues as you- and I can say nothing but good things about this stuff. It's pricey, but well worth it. I used Prescriptives previously, and liked their stuff as well, I just find the Motives one to be better.
PS: I used the motives foundation for our engagement pictures, which was a few hours outdoors in the Charleston heat/humidity in July. It held up great through all that, if lasting power is really a concern to you. 10/20/2010 9:25:19 AM |

Two questions -
1.) For forever, I curled my naturally wavy hair to bring out more curl.. now to mix it up, I have been straightening it twice a week w/ a Chi straightener. I don't use product after I straighten it and it stays straight but I REALLY want a product to make it a more sleek silky straight. Any thoughts?
2.) Foundation - I need something w/ green tints because apparently I have "thin Irish skin". I also need something that will cover the dark circles under my eyes. I sit at a computer all day and genetics isn't that great.
HALP!!! 10/20/2010 9:25:24 AM |

I think green tint contrasts redness like rosacea or pimples, and for dark circles you want yellow. I used to use a yellow under-eye concealer from Physicians Formula. Try something like http://www.physiciansformula.com/en-us/productdetail/face/concealers/02725.html 10/20/2010 9:29:54 AM |

^^ I have curly hair, and when I want to straighten it, I use Redken's Align 12 balm. I started using it in charleston, and it really helped keep my hair from being too unruly in that humidity, without weighing it down or looking greasy. I now use the moroccan oil cream for curly hair, either for scrunching OR straightening. It works surprising well for when I dry/straighten my hair.
