^^^ um. noooo. why???

^^ i agree with ^

but i'd also say going to a museum or something else cultural (first friday date!). if its on a weekend then do something fun outside...hike, canoe, whatever.

but yea, dinner and a show is definitely new age

NO I AM NOT

I AM MOVING

well i'm taking a break but i'm moving. as noted on the group wall. i said a 76% chance id make it but i think i meant to type "WON'T" make it. but i'm coming to the future practices. i just had to move/am still in the process of moving. :/

i'd rather practice. esp since it isn't hot as balls outside.

do we wear shinguards to practice?

oMG THIS IS 179 PAGES LONG!

So uh, I was wondering, since you've been to law school what are some unexpected things you learned either about law or going through the school itself that surprised you?

if you murdered someone you didn't want to, do you think your guilt and responsibility would compel you to just turn yourself in and accept the punishment or would you live the rest of your life free but always carrying that burden of guilt?

^^ i think what shocked me the most were how awful some of the people i went to school with are/were. i have some good friends from law school but some of the people are just downright nasty and you really see where lawyers get THAT reputation from. i was also surprised at how attached i got to some of the cases i worked on - how emotionally demanding it can be. and i learned that "justice" - the way we use the word in our society does not = justice in the dictionary sense.

^what do you mean murdered someone i didn't want to? like accidentally? murder for hire? i think in most any instance unless i was in fear for my own life and did it because of that, i'd just turn myself in. i have a guilty conscience.

^^^ i don't get what there is to elaborate on. i think there are many more inequalities, unfair outcomes and unjust laws, treatment, results than there are just results. that is just my opinion though.

^^ um they aren't really different. M&A involves contracts. i suppose i'd choose M&A over straight up contract drafting though.

^ it just wasn't my thing. too small and too suburban for me. but small in a way i didn't like. asheville is small and i like asheville. raleigh isn't a giant city but i still like it much better than greensboro. i just didn't like the vibe. suburbia is not my thing.

no. i just didn't get a big cultural vibe from greensboro. i can't explain it. it seemed too brady bunch for me. i know there are super shady parts but i like culture and a vibrant downtown. downtown asheville isn't massive or anything but it is vibrant and there is the appeal of the surrounding mountain areas - greensboro's downtown just sucks. its trying hard to be something, just wasn't working. 0 desire to live there.

note: i still don't know if i'd want to live in asheville but i'm just saying there are other places that i do appreciate that aren't raleigh or charlotte (i hate charlotte). greensboro is fine, just not for me.

I guess I was looking for an example of something that = justice in our society but doesn't =justice in the dictionary sense or vice versa.

^^ hahaha. there are black people in raleigh, too you know.

^ people who are wrongfully incarcerated, for one. people for whom the justice system is purportedly supposed to help (i mean the system, the way it works, pretty much breeds criminals. we have the highest incarceration rate in the world for a developed country), i worked with people who got kicked out of public housing for stupid infractions like, smoking a joint...had these people been some 16 year old white kids, they a) would have gotten like community service and b) wouldn't have to worry about losing their housing and c) how does throwing people out of public housing help anyone? giving people no place to go will surely cure substance abuse and crime! yet that is justice? i feel like we don't really know what the goals of our justice system are - like what are we seeking to accomplish? vengeance? justice? retribution? rehabilitation? all? none? what? its become so twisted that i think people have forgotten to stop and think about what the word really means. but that happens with a lot of fancy words we like to throw around...liberty, life, freedom etc, etc. liberty and justice for some, i guess.

but that is just my opinion, obviously. i am an optimist/idealist (shocker, i know) but i wrap that up in cynicism. kinda like a burrito.
