They're evaluations of guys who have never played a single minute of college basketball (or college football, etc,) and some of our fans choose to treat them as the gospel. Sure, a guy like DSJ fits the bill, and othera top-tier recruits pan out. But once you get past the top 10 or top 20 prospects, it can get awfully murky. Per 247Sports, schools like Texas, Texas A&M and LSU have had top-10 classes over the last couple seasons, and they're all mediocre teams. Is Yurtseven playing as the number of stars some scout gave him from watching videos of him? Our only Super Bowl winning QB was a 2-star prospect, according to the "experts."

There are many more "diamonds in the rough" in football recruiting. The AAU/travel teams in basketball make it hard for a player to get overlooked.

And I don't completely dismiss recruiting rankings. I just think after the can't-miss guys, there comes a lot of subjectivity.

As for recruiting rankings, Yurt and Kapita were both a bit suspect bc the scouts hadn't seen Yurt play in person and hadn't seen Kapita play in 2 years. Johnson and Rowan were skewed since they essentially skipped their senior years.

I honestly don't see how anyone could have put Yurt as a 5 star based on how he has played.

He's 7' and handles the ball well for his size and can shoot well for his size. He'll probably be a solid 4 somewhere in his life

see this is where we get into a bit of a problem looking at stuff like this...there are WAY more 2 and 3 star recruits than 4 and 5 stars. so when you see stuff like "look how many 2 star recruits play for the patriots" it's important to remember that based on sheer quantity, 2 and 3 star players will always out number 4 and 5 star players. that doesn't mean the experts got it wrong. in fact, the numbers show that they get it right usually.

they aren't made up numbers...they're usually pretty dang accurate

yeah you can't treat it as gospel. and yurtseven, for example, is obviously not a one and done and hasn't had the immediate impact fans hoped he would. but my point is, recruiting rankings are a good indicator for the level of talent you're bringing in. that isn't really up for debate.

I'm realistic. The chances of us winning and going anywhere with this season are so remote, I'm forbwhatever it takes to remove the problem, and the problem as I see it is Gottfried.

I gave doeren time, ive given gottfried time. I wanted us to be good this year just as much as the next person. My expectations werent sky high, but a ncaat birth was expected. Whats crazy about all this is that in person these conversations go much differently. I mean i have people that troll me all the time and I'm not trolling one person just to be a dick to them. I'm talking about the subject in the thread. I try to bring information that inst otherwise discussed such as the conversation with my friend who has now been right 3 times about non-public information about the program.

I liked Gott and wanted him to work out but after watching these last two games I can admit it is over. How can we be so bad at defending the pick and roll game after game? I have no hate for Gott. He did mostly what we needed him to do which was to come in and take over a dumpster fire and get us back to at least respectable. For the most part he did that other than this season. Now we just have to hope that he got us back to a place where coaches will consider this a good job and feel like there is still untapped potential here.

Of course the realistic side of me says we will swing and miss several times again and keep on keeping on..
