^haha, here are the highlights of my schedule for the upcoming week:

Monday: field radio operation evaluation, some more land navigation instruction


Tuesday: 5 hours of land navigation individual practice. basically, they give you a half dozen or so grid coordinates, and you plot them on a map and take off running for the woods. the objectives will be marked with a small red box on a post (and there are tons of them throughout the training area...gotta find the right one). you use a terrain contour map and a compass (and your pace count) to find your points. all in all, you probably cover 5 miles or so.

then we have classroom instruction on night vision equipment and a class on writing fitness reports



Wednesday: 5 hours of instruction on call for fire (calling in artillery, mortars, air strikes, etc)

then we have a discussion on a book...then we practice sword drill (like you see on the recruiting commercials)

then we head out to the demolition range to blow some stuff up, pop a few claymores, etc



Thursday: training with the M203 rifle mounted grenade launcher for an hour, then 2 hours with the M249 SAW light machine gun, then we get to use the night vision stuff for a few hours...then platoon PT for 2 hours

Friday: 5 more hours of call for fire practice, then several hours of a "sand table exercise"...it's where you construct a terrain mock-up on a huge table filled with sand, then discuss combat tactics
