ramp champ in the house

We had been hearing about this monster swamp trail that had been eating trucks whole, so when my buddies from Lucky8 Offroad got to the event Thursday night we proceeded to head straight for it. The other truck with us sorta pointed at the opening of the swamp trail and grinned and Justin took the new L8 DII (4 link front, 5in lift, 35s, 4.6L, 5 speed,etc) through it. I was next, hit the lockers and put the pedal down and blew right through it somehow- but when we cleared the exit and parked I noticed something seemed different- that wasnt water leaking out from the truck it was OIL. Yay. Turns out I am using the biggest oil filter I can and its too big- so big in fact it interferes with the diff guard at full compression. By interferes I mean punches a 5/16 hole in the bottom of it and by full compression I mean jumping downed trees in a swamp at 35mph. You guys would have loved it. SO I caught a ride back to camp and stole an oil filter off a parked rover and rounded up 3.5 quarts of oil (from 4 different people) and she was good to go.
So we went out Friday night and came across some major mudholes, one of which I went blindly into and faceplanted the truck so bad that it took like 45 minutes two winches and three trucks to recover. In the process one of the rear springs was able to come all the way out, past the cone and all. Got back to camp that night and parked the truck in front of our swap meet tent and it became quite the puzzle the next morning, everyone was kinda looking at the truck leaning hard to the right and scratching their heads, thinking I broke a radius arm or something. Finally I decided to put the truck on the RTI ramp so I could just pop the spring in and back off the ramp, but while I was up there I had them go ahead and measure it. Scored a 950
The Rovertym guys got there Sat. afternoon with that black disco on 60s and a just-finished buggy they are taking to SEMA in a couple weeks. Sat. evening they went out in the black disco "we will be back in 20 minutes"... 45minutes later I get the call- "hey we are stuck at the bottom of that big hill"

So after the dinner/auction/raffle where I snagged a nice watch and the big RTI ramp trophy I rounded up the gear and the Lucky 8 crew and we rode out to the stuck RTE boys- a couple of pulls later they were out and ready to go. Apparantly two other trucks had tried and one broke his winch, the other broke his line? Either way, we got it pulled out.

I may have totally escaped photography whilst on the ramp.... but there was one other guy who scored pretty fair then bought some lowered shock mounts and installed them and then tied my score...

Yeah, wasn't my call. It works though, that color was used in the early eighties on the 90 and 110 models so it is LR correct plus it makes this truck even more unique. As if previous celeb ownership and all the other details have not made it unique enough already.

Only thing I have invested in it is my time, which I have been compensated for. The client however has quite a bit invested in the rebuild. Still less than $100K though.
