Lowe was NOT a coach when the Pistons won the NBA title.

If Hansbrough, Wright and McRoberts all go pro (which is very likely), our frontline could just about dominate the ACC offensively next year. Thornton, Visser and Ibekwe are seniors also. Looking good already. 2/20/2007 12:07:03 PM |

^Wright going pro is a STRONG possibility. But I don't think McRoberts' stock is going to be nearly as high this year so I expect he'll stay and hope for a stronger showing next season with a better team around him. PG Javi Gonzalez has received an offer and has scheduled an official visit.
Quote : | "The rapidly developing recruitment of senior point guard Javi Gonzalez from Dr. Michael Krop High in Miami continues. Gonzalez's AAU coach Art Alvarez informed The Wolfpacker Tuesday that the 6-foot-0, 170-pounder will visit NC State Wednesday for its game against Wake Forest after being offered a scholarship from the Wolfpack." |
I expect you guys to create a great atmosphere tomorrow and wow him into committing on the spot.

Quote : | " Four-star Jones is rolling along nicely
By Justin Young, Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting Senior Writer
The Tidewater area in Virginia is traditionally one of hte best areas in the country for producing big time athletes. For the most part, the prospects are found on the football field. Every once in a while, a basketball prospect will turn heads and attract the high-majors. Nansemond River guard Andre Jones is doing just that this season.
The class of 2008 guard is putting up 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists for his squad as Nansemond River enters it's regional tournament as a one seed on Monday. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard said he is pleased with his play to date this season.
"I think I've been consistent this year and showing more leadership," Jones said in his self-evaluation. "I'm trying to get better and better in every practice and in every game."
Jones, the No. 75 ranked player in the class of 2008, said he's matured this season on the court and working on making himself into a better player and a more recruitable player.
Jones said Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Virginia, George Mason, Georgetown and NC State have been in to see him in action this year. Virginia Tech, Virginia, George Mason and Old Dominion have offered a scholarship, Jones said.
The four-star guard has also been busy seeing schools, making stops at Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, NC State and Old Dominion. Jones added Connecticut, Miami and St. Joseph's are also showing interest.
"Nobody has separated themselves yet," Jones said. "I'll look at it at the end of the summer."
Jones said he and teammate Nick Wright have discussed in passing about playing together in college.
"We have a couple of the same offers and we've looked at the best and worst of the situations," Jones said. "It's something that we've talked about so we'll see."
George Mason and East Carolina are the offers shared by the high school teammates.
Lining up as the point guard for the always-talented Boo Williams AAU club this spring and summer, Jones said he is hoping to elevate his game and become a top priority for schools. "(The spring) is real important because that is when you get a feeling about whether or not you are the top guy for teams and you get to see how bad they want you or whether or not they have to look at someone else," he said.
There are a pair of conferences that are high on Jones's list early on, he says.
"I like the ACC and the Big East. I like that style of play and the guards get out and play and defend. That's my style," Jones said." |

Quote : | "Fans Are Chanting Javi's Name
JAVI AT WEDNESDAY'S WOLFPACK GAME.
Javi Gonzalez, the nation's No. 2 point guard among players available to sign in April, came away from his first recruiting visit incredibly impressed with North Carolina State.
Gonzalez, a 6-0 senior and the star of the Miami Tropics' 2006 Nike Travel Team, watched N.C. State earn a 73-66 home win over Wake Forest on Wednesday night.
""Everything has been first class," said Eddie Gonzalez, who made the trip along with his son. "Javi is loving it. He sat with (former N.C. State greats) Chris Corchiani and Tom Burleson at Wednesday's game.
""Ëverybody knew he was going to be at the game. All kinds of players and fans were greeting him. Groups of fans were chanting his name - "We want Javi, we want Javi." It was impressive that the people in Raleigh are so passionate about basketball.""
Gonzalez said the visit wrapped up today with another impressive display.
""Today, we met the academic advisors and took a tour of the training facilities," Eddie Gonzalez said. ""Ägain, everything was first rate."
N.C. State's interest in Gonzalez began Feb. 10, when the Wolfpack played at the University of Miami. Before the game, Monte Towe, a former NBA point guard and now the Wolfpack's Associate Head Coach, visited with Tropics founder Art ""Pilin" Alvarez.
""Monte told me he needed a point guard," said Alvarez, who attends most of UM's home games. ""I told him that I had a great one for him in Javi."
Towe acted quickly, coming to see Gonzalez play in the regional quarterfinals on Feb. 15. Impressed, Towe returned Feb. 20 for the semifinals and again Feb. 24 for the regional final.
In that last game, Towe brought Wolfpack Head Coach Sidney Lowe, who offered Gonzalez a scholarship (through Alvarez) at halftime.
Since N.C. State graduates its starting point guard Engin Atsur after this season, there is a dire need for help at the position. The Pack did not sign a point guard in November and seems to be a great fit for Gonzalez, who is rated behind only Houstain Bellaire's Jai Lucas among available point guards.
Gonzalez, though, does have other options. LSU, Duquesne and Hofstra have all offered scholarships, and he plans to visit each. The NCAA allows a total of five visits, so it is possible he could take a trip to Washington State, Central Florida or another of the schools recruiting him.
It is also possible that Gonzalez could commit to N.C. State and cancel the rest of his visits.
""I tell all my players that if you love a school, it is OK to committ right away,"" Alvarez said. ""We will talk about it and help Javi make the right decision.""" |

Ok. The rumors can officially start. Who is transferring? We know no one is going pro (unless they are absolute idiots like Powell x 25). Bartosz? He is the only one other than Horner it would make sense for from a RS/playing time perspective..

I've read 6'2" on some sites and 6'3" on others. That isn't too small for a college PG. He just needs to be explosive..

Also, doesn't have anything to do with State but I've heard Samardo Samuels (top big man in the '08 class) is leaning heavily towards UNC over UConn

Nevermind I found it. He was a 4 * prospect.

Zabian Dowdell was only a 2 * prospect and he turned out pretty well. Sometimes good players just aren't discovered early. Monte Towe wasn't a highly recruited prospect, but turned out to be one of the best PG's we ever had.

Too early, what do you mean by that? Isnt Javi coming for the 2007/2008 season?
I am wondering the same thing about the offers though. It just doesent make sense. I mean look at who we competed against to land Hickson and Smith! How come this late in the recruiting game he still has so few offers? I think alot of the other big schools are gambling on Jai Lucas (who is badass and definitely shown more than javi has thus far). You have to filter out of that article that he is the #2 PG still left behind Jai Lucas. He and Lucas are oddballs because they waited so long to commit. I wonder how highly ranked Javi is when compared to the entire PG class for this coming year?
Also dont be surprised if UNC gets a class for 2008/09 that is sicker than this year's class. They have the best bandwagon / street cred of any college bball program. Its not slowing down either.... More reason that we need to get a great team together for 2007/08 after they lose 4-5 players to the NBA this year.3/2/2007 12:22:58 PM |

According to Scout he is an unrated 3*.. not a very highly rated recruit.. and I was mistaken about his size. The recruiting sites have him listed at 6'0" 165..
--- 39th best PG in the class via Scout.. Jai is 7th (1 behind Chris Wright)
V that's an awfully big gamble to take. It's one thing when you are talking about football with 25 man classes and knowing a hanful won't qualify but with only 3 incoming players I'd hate for us to have to reneg on a scholly...

Javi didnt commit because he didnt have any good offers to take. He came on late but is having an incredible season.
Everyone has known for a long time that Jai can ball, except teams semi-recruited over him because of his size...so he waited for a possible better situation.
^to the rumors about who is transfering, I'd say there's as good of a chance that someone doesnt qualify...like Tracy Smith who we havent heard anything about since he committed.

I, like all of you, wish we could have gotten Wright or Lucas, but since that isn't going to happen we needed to get the next best player available. If Degand goes down to injury early next year we are screwed. Maybe Javi is truly a 3 * player, maybe he's a diamond in the rough that within a year or two will be very developed. Kammron Taylor of Wisconsin was only a 2 * player, and Acie Law of TAMU was only a 3 * player. They're now tearing it up at their respective schools. Hopefully if he comes here then he'll become a reliable PG that will give us 4 good years, and we'll give him a free world class education in return.

Law and Dowdell are the exceptions to the rule. I don't have a problem with locking up another PG but that pretty much precludes us from any PG for the next 3-4 years considering Javi would have 4 yrs and Degand and Johnson will have 3 years of eligiblity left. No team is going to carry more than 3 scholly PGs (hell most only have 2)..
I'm not sure I'm high on keeping our options so limited in the next few years with what could turn out to be less than optimal PG situations. We all know how important it is to have a true 1 running the show..
In a vacuum I'd love to have Javi though based on what I've read.

Nobody is saying he's a dumbass, or that he doesnt have the SAT to qualify, but he goes to Mt. Zion Academy, a school that has a history of students who graduated and seemed good enough but were missing something stupid and the NCAA didnt let them in. It has nothing to do with grades or test scores and everything to do with coursework at Mt. Zion. Hopefully they got that straightened out (which it sounded like they did in november) but you never know. Stranger things have happened, and we ARE NC State. This would be some NC State shit if he didnt qualify.

Are you saying you wouldnt go after a top 50 player who is smart enough to handle NC State coursework just because there is a SLIGHT CHANCE he wont qualify because of his school? I'm sure all of these schools looked into it and figured it was better to take the risk. If he made 1100 on the SAT then he obviously has some intelligence. I personally think he'll qualify but we also dont know everything.
