I hope the Motorstorm patch actually comes out this thursday. I've finished the game, but it is pointless to play online if you don't want to cheat as of now.

Neodata, you just now said:

"i have a ps3 and could talk about it."

But a few posts ago you said:

Quote :
"I wouldn't mind having a ps3 i just haven't had the time to invest in both."

I'm confused...

Yeah sorry i confused everyone. When i posted the first one (Friday) i didn't have a ps3. I'm in Charlotte for the Summer and my friend and i went in on a ps3 this weekend. We always split things, but i think i'll end up getting it back in Raleigh because i have the bigger hd display (just my 24 inch dell, but it looks nice). He compulsivly bought MotorStorm and it looks great. Anyone play it?

Motorstorm is freaking great. Tons of fun. I play it a lot.

There's a video out for the MMO Spy game Sony is putting out for the PS3:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/theagency/news.html?sid=6172347&autoplay=6172324&tag=topslot;link;2&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot

I mean, maybe it will be good, I dunno. Looks a little over the top. Who knows though?

Is there a way to "bookmark" your location on a dvd so you can resume it later automatically? I cant figure this shit out.

so anyone else playing MLB 07 The Show?

I'm getting a little frustrated with baserunning. maybe i'm messing something up, but it seems like I can't get my guy to just run through the base to try and leg out a double/triple. he stops at first then I have to keep hitting R1 to get him to advance.

tips?

try to hold X, they take a wider turn when going towards the base to try to run to the next one. Just a suggestion.

ah, the x button was the trick! much much better now (especially since I've built my guy into a decet power hitter with a ton of speed). easy to leg out doubles and I should be better equipped to hit the cycle in those rare opportunities

BTW, there is a Pawtucket Red Sox player by the name of Bill Simmons

I am finding that in The Show, your attributes make a huge difference. As I'm getting my reaction, fielding, etc up in my attributes, I can make better breaks on balls hit over my head or in the holes (I'm a SS). When I first started, I had no chance at catching a roper, now I'm about 50%.

And I may be crazy, but I think your guy develops sweet spots based on past hitting. When I get low pitches, I can really turn on them hard. Most of my homers have come from pitches at the knees and inside.

Blockbuster is switching exclusively to Bluray for HD titles:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6172635.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;4

Quote :
"...since late last year it had been offering customers a choice of Blu-ray and HD DVD formats in some 250 stores, and found that people opted for Blu-ray more than 70 percent of the time."

I think that's a pretty huge development for Bluray, making it pretty big for the PS3 as well.

^^ hd-movies are stupid since the standard dvd looks good enough. why would you pay 30 for a hd movie when you can get the stand dvd for 10? if you compare the dvd:hddvd i am pretty sure that the dvd still dominates and will for a very long time coming.

^ really, the difference isnt that big of a deal in terms of hd vs. regular quality DVD on a lot of movies, because most movies were not filmed with an HD camera.

However, if you watch something like the Planet Earth documentary, it looks incredible. I think that as HD cameras become the standard, you will see a lot better quality, especially on movies with a lot of ourdoor scenes.

^I can't even watch dvds or sd tv anymore after having HD for a while.

And you all realize HD isn't some new flashy thing. All HD video is trying to do is get back to the quality of what original film was. It's kinda the same with digital photography. When digital came out it was sub-par to photo-film quality, and technology slowly increased until it could compete with film. It's the same for video. HDTV is not yet to the point of true large-format film, but it's getting there.

^JUST BECAUSE something was not filmed with an HD camera does NOT mean it can't be converted to look great through digital. Currently large format video cameras have just as good, if not better quality than 1080p.

Technology has just moved toward digital formats instead of film because it's easier to trasport, and copy/edit.

Remember digital is always limited by the electronic sensor within the camera. This method converts light to signals that the chip can pick up. Optical film on the other hand is limited only by the optics and quality of the lens on the camera.

I agree. I have a PS3 and bought the planet earth on bluray. Its amazing. I bought the first pirates movie on bluray too, and I put in the reg dvd after, and it does look alot better. I notice it the most on my projection LCD on the black levels. I dont get that black plasma blob on the blurays that I get on the dvds.

It's actually very different. Dvds represent film compressed and greatly lowered in resolution, HD-movies represent things shot in that resolution and compressed. I believe the highest quality video is still taken using a large-format film camera THEN converting it to digital for transport.

You're crazy if you think a regular dvd looks as good as Bluray or HD-DVD. They probably look the same on an SD tv, but definitely not on an HDTV.

And yes, all the film archives that go way back can all be converted digitally to 1080p or whatever since its analog. This isn't upscaling or anything, its just taking the film and getting the 1080p resolution from it, which is pretty awesome. They've been showing some old movies in HD on HDnet or whatever, like Cool Hand Luke, and its awesome. Also, the audio is usually uncompressed on Bluray, so it sounds incredible.

I'm pretty sure this discussion is for another topic, so I'll try to get us back on track. Pretty interesting article about Time Crisis 4 here. Looks like it could be a lot of fun:

^x5,^x6 most (especially mainstream) films are just that: films. they are not filmed digitally so all this digital camera talk is irrelevant.

^My point exactly. It's pointless to talk about digital video cameras because the higher 1080p+ ones cost so much, and it's cheaper to just shoot in film, and convert that to 1080p. It looks just as nice, (if not nicer cause it's film).

^Although that's not entirely true, many current movies are actually being filmed in HD as well as many tv shows.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_video#HD_in_Filmmaking
There's a list on there.

35mm film conversion to digital
Academy Sound (Sound movies before 1955): 15 mm × 21 mm (1.375) = 2160 × 2970
Academy camera US Widescreen: 11 mm × 21 mm (1.85) = 1605 × 2970
Current Anamorphic Panavision ("Scope"): 17.5 mm × 21 mm (2.39) = 2485 × 2970
Super-35 for Anamorphic prints: 10 mm × 24 mm (2.39) = 1420 × 3390

So lets see, a pre-1955 movie can be made into 2970p. Interesting. So 1080p has a LONG way to go before we see film quality movies.

^Film still pwns HD video, but it's coming along.

Yeah Crisis 4 looks awesome.

Got a Wii back around Christmas but there's not shit for games right now.

PS3 has more power and has the ability for motion-sensing in games, but there's no way in hell I'm paying $600 for it.

^ Doesn't make any sense. Americans don't buy things because they "work". They buy things because they work in excess. Why buy a BMW when a honda civic will work and gets better mpg. It's obvious if you have the money. Same with HD. If you want something a little nicer, and you're able to buy it, then do.

^ If the price goes down between then and now, you can show them your receipt and they will give you the money back. There is no way that the price is going to go down by then though. It will be around November, trust me.

I am not about to search through this entire thread so forgive me it this has been covered.

Does anyone know if the ps2 av cables are compatible with the ps3? I have a set of component cables for my ps2 in the attic, which I can go get, but not going to bother if it isn't going to work. connections seems similar.

I'm not 100% sure, but when I held the 2 ends side by side (PS2/PS3), they were definitely not identical. I was too gun shy to actually try and plug it in and test it, but I seriously doubt it would work.

^Alright, maybe they will. Got any links to confirm?
