Nah tether and pdanet can be used without paying the 15/30 monthly access charge through verizon. Tether was about 60 and pdanet was 30 the last time I checked. Both violate your tos though but I don't see verizon caring unless your using a huge amount of bandwidth each month 5/17/2010 11:51:47 AM |

sorry, im not at home to try this out, but so what you're saying is i can put VZAM on my laptop, tether it to my storm2, and use it free and clear as a wi-fi providing service with no monthly fee like they used to charge?
is it only usb cable tethering or bluetooth too? 5/17/2010 11:54:37 AM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
nah, if you go through vzam, then you need your account provisioned for tethering but if you download/use the pdanet or tether software, you can tether through their software. Looks like pdanet supports usb and bluetooth tether http://www.junefabrics.com/blackberry/index.php 5/17/2010 12:01:54 PM |

i have my email (gmail account) linked
i receive emails just fine
i cannot reply, keep getting error msg "No MSG services configure. You will be redirected to the Setup Wizard to setup your email account."
it then does not redirect me. I have tried doing this online and through the phone itself.

Re-sending the service books should do the trick
Also go to send an email...at the very top, above the To: and CC: and Subject: lines, it should say "Send Using:"
If you had multiple email accounts tied into the phone, you would be able to select which one you send from. Tell me if it shows your GMail account, or says something else 5/18/2010 8:36:59 PM |

On the bb bis site, look for help, then select send service books. In a few seconds your bb will go crazy and all your problems should be solved. 5/19/2010 10:33:30 AM |

i've had an odd and annoying thing happen on my tour starting yesterday.
I have 2 email accounts sent to my phone through the BIS (let's call them account A and account B). I have moved the "messages" email icon and hidden it because I don't want to deal with all of the messages in one place - I find it too cumbersome given the number and types of unrelated messages that all show up there. I like knowing exactly what email account i'm checking, etc. So I have a messages icon for Account A and another one for account B. The majority of my messages are from account A (anywhere from 10-100/day). Account B only gets messages a few times a week.
So yesterday, the new email indicator would show up, but inbox A would not get marked as having a message until i scrolled over it. Starting this morning, the indicator shows up, but inboxA doesn't get the message at all. It doesn't get the star over the account and if I open it, there's no new message. I have to go to the "all messages" icon to view the new email. This is really starting to annoy me.
I've restarted and no difference. There have been no changes that I'm aware of between yesterday morning, evening and this morning.
Any ideas or suggestions? Is it possible that some how the InboxA icon somehow is no longer associated with messages from email account A? 5/25/2010 5:26:58 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148440 Posts user info edit post |
Hmm, I'm not sure. I have about 5 email accounts on my phone and have them all going into the main messages inbox, but 99% of the emails I get are on a main account so I don't mind. I just like reducing the icon clutter for stuff I need. 5/25/2010 6:05:46 PM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
well, I just made it so I only get account A messages in the all messages list - no sms or mms (they go to a separate icon). And account b messages are showing up at the account B icon. So, that's essentially back how i had it and how i want it.
but odd that it happened. 5/25/2010 8:38:38 PM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
so around 11:30 or so I check my email on my phone and it's blank. there appears to be nothing under the messages. But, i can scroll kind of. Nothing is visible, but if i move the trackball down, it looks like items highlighting (the line turns blue). Clicking doesn't do anything. So i go to view folder and select inbox and everything shows up. But as soon as i hit back, it's blank again. no need to mention how annoying that was.
I'm laying here watching tv and at around 3:45am I see my phone light up. I look over and there's an hr glass spinning. a black screen comes up with "blackberry" on it and progress bar runs for a few minutes. phone restarts and before my personal settings load something comes up saying something about "security" and a progress bar runs. Then it loads up like normal. After that, the messages are working just fine. I checked the account A icon i mentioned earlier, and all of my new messages now appear there (no new messages had showed up there since last night around 9 or so).
So, looks like maybe there was an update that hosed it and another that fixed it. 5/26/2010 4:03:34 AM |

yeah sounds software related...I've seen BBs sometimes just seemingly randomly reboot themselves...imo its a good reason to wait for your carrier's full release of a new OS instead of trying to install another carrier's new OS by changing some code, since all brand new software inevitably has some bugs 5/26/2010 12:45:32 PM |

how do I get google maps on my blackberry 8330 curve to determine my location closer than just "within 1200 meters".
yes I do have GPS enabled, with location on, and have set the google maps permissions to allow. 5/27/2010 8:18:59 AM |

I could be outside in a parking lot, and it'll locate me within 1200 meters. I think its using cell towers instead of GPS. If I use Blackberry maps, location gets locked within a few feet. 5/27/2010 9:22:32 AM |

agreed. i've actually never ran an OS that didn't come direct from verizon. I'm assuming they updated something. But I didn't get a message asking me to approve the install or anything, which it seems that I typically do. Oh well, it's working exactly as it should/was now. If it happens again, I'll take straight to verizon i guess.5/27/2010 3:18:45 PM |

Oh brother. I'm on a hybrid. Was on the latest original release. I've batt pulled.
I've taken the phone apart and checked for any grounding issues or frayed ribbon cables.
It's fucked six ways from Sunday. It's a brand new replacement LCD for the one that was cracked, btw. 7/9/2010 10:54:02 AM |

wait, so you did something to crack your lcd and then tried to replace it yourself and now the phone is a piece of shit because it doesn't work right? Wow.... Out of curiosity, did you replace just the lcd or both the lcd & the digitizer? 7/9/2010 8:53:00 PM |
Senez All American 8112 Posts user info edit post |
I replaced the LCD & Digitizer. The cracked digitizer was more of a nuisance and still worked. Been like that for months. Just would start to select text if I scrolled at times. The new screen is a complete piece of crap. You act like replacing something on this phone is difficult. I've had phones like this apart several times. But yeah, even before the screen cracked this phone was a piece of crap. That's well-documented.

No, replacing it isn't difficult. Neither is screwing it up. A lot of people use the wrong version or damage a connection. I was mainly wowing at the fact that you have in some way abused your phone and are then surprised that it doesn't work like new and it's the phone's fault. I've also owned a Storm. The stock OS sucked. The phone itself wasn't that bad imo. Anyway, I just mainly wanted to make sure that you didn't try to replace one without the other since that's where the majority of problems seem to come from. 7/10/2010 10:10:28 AM |
Senez All American 8112 Posts user info edit post |
Nah, it was the complete unit. Checked and double checked the connector and for any signs of grounding problems. I don't expect to work like new, but I do expect it to work. 7/10/2010 10:27:07 AM |

^Nope-you have to contact IT and tell them what your new BB pin # is 8/7/2010 5:25:06 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148440 Posts user info edit post |
If you've currently got your BB's email setup through a BES server, all you need to do to switch everything to a new device is:
1. Backup old Blackberry 2. Restore backup to new Blackberry 3. Plug new Blackberry into Desktop Manager (while signed into your exchange profile) 4. It will say "the profile is currently setup for device with pin XXXXXXXX, would you like to switch to device with pin YYYYYYYY" or something like that. Click yes.
note: you can do the restore before or after you do step 4
My BES server is so old it doesn't even allow wireless enterprise activation, you have to be plugged into the system. So when people in out of state offices got new devices, it was a pain in the ass. Until I figured I could just have them connect to the the VPN, open the Desktop Manager, sign into their exchange profile, and plug in their unit.] 8/7/2010 5:27:41 PM |

i got my gmail hooked up to it and im trying my best to get my contacts loaded on there... sure would be nice to know who is calling before i answer
i put in a ticket with my works IT dept to get hooked up to the BES.... so i guess my question is, should i install the bb software on my work computer now or wait until i am "activated" ?
also i installed facebook and can't find the icon for it anywhere.
pretty frustrating trying to figure this thing out but i guess the benefit is im so late in the game there are loads of people to help me

blackberry went into the pocket today, got brought back out and it had shut itself off and started to reload... not a problem -- it finishes loading and the hourglass spins like normal then it goes right back to loading... it's done this cycle about 7 times now. i took the battery out let it sit for 10 minutes and once again it's loading... hourglass... loading... etc. 9/23/2010 11:56:12 AM |

^^ look through the icons/folders you have. there should be one called "applications" - sometimes the icons for new apps are tossed in there. If you highlight the icon, and hit the bb button, you'll see an option to "move" it. Move it to the home screen and then go in and movie it wherever you want. 9/23/2010 2:43:28 PM |

Yeah the Downloads folder is the default for new apps...but you can move it to any folder you want
Hold down the Alt key and hit the scroll wheel in any window and you can hide or show hidden icons, as well as moving them around, or moving them to a different folder 9/23/2010 3:17:31 PM |

on my tour, the downloads folder is where the installer goes. the applications folder is where the actual shortcut for the app usually ends up.

i got facebook moved to my main page!! thanks
well the activation that was supposed to take 5-15 days took just overnight because i guess i really am the last person to get a bb at work haha
so i will install the software on my work computer some time next week.
question... i have my gmail hooked up and it picked up all my gmail contacts. well i happen to be friends with a lot of people at work on gmail and they ended up with 2 entries.. a gmail tied contact entry & another entry from my contacts on my old phone (had to go into verizon today to get those loaded & even the guy helping me needed someone else to help him)
aaand also, is there a way to hook up to my work's email directory? or do i really have to program all the people i email into my phone? the way my email works now (lotus notes, old and ghetto i know) is i can just type in their name and it populates. can i get that going on my bb too? 9/23/2010 8:44:31 PM |
