incorrect. he can only talk about recruits who have signed a LOI, which leslie has certainly not done, being a sophomore in hs.

i mean, in fairness, all he said was that he's athletic. that's not terrible, but we'll probably get 3 years probation for it.

how do you know it was leslie, and not williams since he never mentioned his name? Don't be so naive as to think the media has any semblance of journalistic integrity. This is nothing more than tabloid reporting.

As was said, it was taken WAY the fuck out of context:

Actual transcript of interview (from packpride):

Quote :
"Questions: "Has recruiting changed where you are trying to get players to commit at a younger age? What are you trying to target when recruiting a young guy like that?"

"The players that I will look at, is how they play the game. I try and see if they understand the game. I will try and watch certain things, with their reads and their passing. I will watch their intensity level and how they play and obviously their skill level. They have to be skilled. More importantly right now, I want guys that just play hard and know how to play, unless he's a specialist like a guy that can shoot the basketball. So, I think the guys like the one you mentioned, and I can't say his name, who committed, he is very athletic and is playing extremely well right now. He is going to get better. The two young men that we have coming in next year are sound basketball players. They know how to play the game. That is what I'm looking for right now."

Ken Tysic's interpretation in Charlotte Observer:

N.C. State men's coach Sidney Lowe might have broken an NCAA rule by commenting about a recruit.
When a reporter mentioned "C.J. (Leslie) from Word of God," who has committed to N.C. State, Lowe said , "one guy you mentioned, who committed, he's very athletic," Lowe said. "He's playing extremely well, and he's going to get better."

Looks to me like Ken is drawing inferences in the paper that weren't specifically made. If Sid said he can't say his name, then it seems to me you can't know who he's referring to."

exactly. he was talking about one of the ones who DID sign a LOI. he wasn't talking about Leslie even tho the Charlotte paper implied that

"Observations

• North Carolina won by 31 points. Imagine how large the margin would have been if CourtneyFells' sprained ankle prevented him from playing. Fells led the Wolfpack with 16 points.

• Don't be deluded into thinking this game would have been much different if N.C. State's FarnoldDegand hadn't suffered a season-ending knee injury Dec. 23. Degand is a better point guard than Gonzalez, but wasn't close to matching the success Engin Atsur had running Lowe's offense last season.

• N.C. State scored 50 points against Presbyterian and 54 against N.C. Central, first-season Division I teams that each had one win when they played the Wolfpack. So maybe N.C. State's 13-point first-half performance shouldn't have been a surprise Saturday."

This is a big game for Sid....

If we win we can still manage a good season.

If we lose 1-3 ACC will be hard to rebound from especially losing at home to a lesser team.

Cant blame it all on Sid.

PG is our downfall again this year. You can't get completely dismantled at that position in the college game.

College basketball is all about great guard play.

PG/SG combos are the cornerstone of good college teams.

Big men get squandered without them.

Look at nearly every previous championship team whether its El Amin/Hamilton, Cleaves/Richardson, Duhon/Williams, etc you have to have a distributor and a scorer period

It's one thing to miss a wide ass open shot but another to show no class. Not good Javi.

The kid was 6-29 coming into this game shooting from the field. Has more turnovers than assists. Is a 40% free throw shooter and his man (Causey) blew by him the whole game. You must be seeing a different game not me.

Causey blew by everyone all game. I dont know why we didnt put Fells on him in the 2nd half

and yes Javi has played like shit all season, but tonight he looked like he had some confidence and could be a reliable option on the floor. But missing one shot at the end of the game doesnt take away from everything he did earlier to keep us in the game

^^dude, we realize that we don't have a PG this season, but damn... we're working with what we've got.. quit bitchin... he doesn't have much experience and he showed a lot of progress from previous games (minus the last shot)...

get over it

It would honestly be better if Fells/Grant just rotated bringing it upcourt and started Costner, McCauley, and Hickson at the same time. Especially there at the end of the game when we needed a score. Javi looks so lost and has been playing the whole season. Johnson still has just a few games under his belt.

Yes Grant was horrible....led the ACC in turnovers. But with him and Fells you know that they could get it into the frontcourt. We just need someone to have a clue and get the ball inside.

nobody's sucking his knob. We are in the fucking ACC and these kids are being thrown into the fire at the most important position on the court. He has to demand the teams confidence and play the court general - the only way they are going to learn at this point is by working through the adversity now.

If we start Fells or Grant at the point then we will have the exact same problem next season.

It's pretty obvious that the reason this team is not doing well is because Costner is not doing well. He sucks worse than garbage. The only way we turn it around is if Costner gets his act together and scores his 20 pts and grabs his 7 rebounds a game and doesn't turn the ball over every other time he touches the ball. Until then, we'll keep struggling against the bottom tier of the ACC and get blown out by the upper tier.

i think we might be the only team in the nation that has trouble with a 1 man press and take 20 seconds to get the ball past the top of the key

Anybody else think Lowe is putting too much pressure on our freshmen and not having enough faith in our upperclassmen, especially on offense?

It just seems like he lets Javi and Marques handle the ball for 25 seconds and see if they can get it down low to JJ, who is our first option and is obviously struggling more against ACC opponents. Fells, Grant and Costner barely touch the ball for 2 or 3 seconds some possessions, most of the time just to bail our PG out and hand it right back to them. It's just asking a lot from freshmen, and that doesn't bode well in the ACC. He's going to have to rely on his more experienced players or it's not going to get any easier.

^^^^ wow, seriously?! unfortunately you can't have gavin pass the ball to gavin and then have gavin make a cut to the basket to recieve the pass from himself. shit, you have to use what you've got. we happen to have young players. true the upperclassmen could hold onto the ball all night long, but that wouldn't make good offense either. you need all positions to actively contribute, and we happen to have some young guys. jesus.

We are not just a PG away from being top 25.

We're half a squad.

Don't forget, you need more then one guy that can shoot and kids that won't get beasted on defense.
