i'm somewhat disappointed at the lack of "big things" happening this episode, but that probably means the season finale is gonna kick ass

I thought there was plenty big...subtle big, and mainly plot device for season 3, but big

and how about Evan Rachel Wood? Just what a queen should be like!

the egg......yeah i got nuthin
interesting that Tara loves EGGS and there's an EGG and Tara's birthday cake looked like a wedding cake and.....yeah...still nuthin...but whatever

eric is VERY interesting. and from other True Blood message board fodder (and maybe here too? i'd have to go back a few), there were speculations that Eric was manipulating Sookie's dreams. like "why would Lorena be there? Eric must have put her there" whereas I thought that was just Sookie's subconscious. there was a new take in a review about the most recent dream after Godric's death that not only was Sookie dreaming, but she was actually recalling a memory with Eric comforting him that then lead in to a dream (based on fuzziness of the camera...interesting theory) when she started to kiss him. but now with laffy's PTSD hallucination, and then Lettie May/Eric actually becoming Eric i now think that maybe he can/could manipulate the minds of people that have had his blood if he wanted to. though...i would hope that wasn't manipulation, and just an actual sookie dream for that one. it means much more for his character development and she changing her thoughts about him based on what she's seen with godric's death for it to be a manipulation...

and ohhhh Pam, how i love thee--"she owes me new pumps" and "i hate them" talking about children

and not really a spoiler...but i'm glad to see Sookie go back to more of her qualities and resourcefulness like Sookie from the books and not this "woe is me" damsel "beeeeel!! save me!!" shit that they've made of her recently. she wasn't nearly as damsel in season 1 between the ratrays and rene. knocking out lettie may and mike spencer was getting back to that.

So, watching the preview for next week....
Bill offers Sam to Marianne because he thinks it will save Sookie.
Maybe they (Sam + Bill) didn't plan it that way beforehand, but I think they probably did. Well, Bill probably did. Sam might be in the dark about the fact that Marianne will undoubtedly go after Sookie.
They probably thought they would sacrifice Sam, trick Marianne into thinking they had finally summoned God, and kill her at her vulnerable point.
Maybe the plan was that Bill would save Sam with his vampy blood after Marianne does her thing.
None of that really matters though...
Because Marianne is definitely going after Sookie regardless of Sam & Bill's actions.
Sam might die for effect, but that's just a side plot.

I'm going to guess that there is a Marianne & Sookie showdown where Sookie (or Sookie & Friends) somehow learns about her new powers and beats Marianne; thereby heralding in a new era of Sookie power.

That's just my guess. My little prediction for the finale.

it's more likely something specific about sookie's power and its effect on maenads.

-Disapointed in the queen. I'm not sure if it was her character, the script, or the actress but it was weak and unbelievable. All of her power was implied with the way that Bill reacted to "I insist" but she showed absolutely no forcefullness and had no presence. She was silly.

-I no longer care about Mary Anne or the Maenad plot or whatever. It's been drawn out and I've lost interest.

-I am however more interested in the power struggles between Bill and Eric, and Skaaaarsgaaaard continues to impress me with his character acting. The little interchange between those two on the queen's steps was the best scene in the show.

-flying vampires was cool.

i was also greatly disappointed in the scenes with the Queen. i thought Lorena acted more like a Queen than this girl does. you're right, she seems silly and immature and just kinda...childish. oh well, she's hot.

I disagree. I think the Queen acted exactly like I expected her to--she IS a child...just a very old one. Here comes Bill and she's all, "oh just hang out a bit!!" She's bored with his little "problem," enjoys herself and especially enjoys watching him squirm/itch to get away and back to Bon Temps. She enjoyed him being grossed out (Bill's a total homophobe btw) and then finally feeding on the human to do nothing more than please her. Then after she gives him all the info she has about maenads and he's walking out the door feeling all warm and fuzzy being close to the Queen (cause who needs to obey a Sheriff--especially one trying to scoop up your gf--when you're in good with the Queen, amirite?)...BAM! she hits him with her rank. "I do look forward to meeting her," in an anvil dropping tone.

Like I said...this episode may have been bleh in the Maryann department, but it was big in plot setup for season 3.

Honestly I think you're reading between the lines a lot on the queen's character, and that's what I meant with my review. There was nothing about her presence that suggested she was a more powerful vampire than any we've seen so far and she's supposed to outrank anything in the show up to this point. Her lines were stupid "Oh, how I'd love to see two men having sex." "You two should just fuck and get it over with" "I haven't enjoyed penises in...". My whole issue is that she didn't bring anything to this character; the entire character was defined by how the other characters reacted to her or talked about her. It could have been a broom and it would have functionally been the same.

And honestly she looked better in the still shot in this thread than in motion, but maybe it was the drivel coming out of her mouth that turned me off.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

i really enjoyed how she was very much in her own little "i'm the queen and i'll do whatever i want because i can" world. (YAHTZEE!) i would've liked her to say/do something serious before bill left (more so than the line about meeting sookie) just to reinforce that she's the queen.

she also mentioned weres which was cool.

^^Maybe the next episode, when she's hanging with Eric--a vampire while beneath her actually has some balls, stomach and authority--we'll see more of the power that you were wanting and less play than what we got with Bill.

This episode seemed poorly written in many areas, especially with Queen Sophie-Anne. Her character just seemed to have to ramble on non-sense that was just confusing and boring to listen to. Kudos to Evan-Rachel Wood for working with it the best she could.

Loved having Pam back in the mix. I am always more captivated with the vampires than the silly humans being crazy around Maryanne, especially psycho Tara. And wtf with that huge egg?

Giving Evan Rachel Wood props?? I thought her acting sucked. Although I'll say she had to work with what she was given (which blew)...I don't think she helped at all.

Easily the worst episode of the season.

The Egg and the Were's are all I care about right now.

there has to be at least 2-3 deaths in this final episode to really bring closure to this story IMO.

- Maryanne has to die
- Someone has to die trying to kill Maryanne
- WTF is going to happen to Benedict (eggs)? He has to be written off somehow, b/c his character is so heavility mixed with Maryanne.

I hope Eggs will be one of the ones that dies. Maryann, Eggs, we got Carl already, and a few other minor characters sprinkled in just for carnage sake like Jane Bodehouse (she's already down a finger, might as well finish the job!) and Mike Spencer would all be fine characters to get the heave ho.

She said something about the Latvian boy tasting just how they used to right after she was turned; ie just after the industrial revolution. So she's only a couple hundred years old.

With her being that young and the tv chick throwing her "celebrity" weight around, I guess you don't necessarily have to be an old vampire to have political influence.

she said just after she was turned and "before the industrial revolution fucked everything to hell"...in the books she's 1100 years old if that helps.

she's also supposed to be 15 years old (and very much in to fashion and makeup so that's accurate) not in her 20s...much like Godric(frey) was supposed to be 14 with a mostly children only diet (teacup humans--they're delicious!)

but Nan throwing her celebrity around was just plain accurate with the power of TV

^ NM you got it before I did.

Also, I think Sookie's power over the Maenad is obviously something to do with her ability to read minds, that and something the queen said about almost anything that exists was imagined into existence, and that Maryanne is only a mortal with a fucked up perception of reality.

I'm choosing to ignore shit like that because even for a show about vampires and shapeshifters, Solipsism is going off the deep end.

^^ lol, well the most informed character on the show brought it up, I didn't pull that out of the air. I'll go back and watch that part again, but I'm pretty sure Queen Sophie said Maryanne was only immortal because she was under the complete and total belief that nothing could harm her.

I wasn't saying I'm ignoring you. I'm just not paying attention when the characters go WAY out there and they start trying to explain the metaphysical shit that happens as some sort of manifestation of the psyche.

I kind of liked the way they handled it and I don't think it's Solipsism per say. I took ERW's comments, "everything imagined itself into existence" to mean that "evolution" is thought/belief driven. I didn't think she was trying to say that if you believe something then *poof* it happens or you change.

The has become a pretty common occurrence while watching True Blood, but when the vamp queen started talking about that I just said, "you've got to be kidding me."

I don't want to get into an argument about how good the show is because if you enjoy it, you don't need me to tell you it sucks. I also don't want to belittle anyone who enjoys the show, but it's just become way too ridiculous and retarded for me.
