Strictly speaking, mcaain's rules about "telegraphing punches" are not holy edicts that should be unquestioned. I frankly don't see why either candidate has to be against the other on the pakistan border thing in the real world. In campaign world, Obama is taking the position to look tough. Mccain is taking the position just to differentiate himself somehow from obama.

I personally would favor acting autonomously to get Osama, but both approaches to Pakistan and bin laden can work.

to sum up everything I hear that comes out of Obama, I have came to one conclusion that I agree with...

"We don't have time for on the job training" - McCain, couldnt have said it better

I think Obama came off as more of a "realist" in this debate compared to McCain, who started all his responses with some "well, i want to do what's right for the american people" bullshit.

"CBS Poll: Uncommitted Voters Say Obama Won Debate

CBS News and Knowledge Networks have, once again, conducted a nationally representative poll of uncommitted voters to get their immediate reaction to tonight's presidential debate.

And this new poll has good news for the Democratic ticket: Just as in the first presidential debate and the vice presidential face off, more uncommitted voters say the Democratic candidate won the debate."

McCain (R) 27
Obama (D) 39
Draw 35

-----------------
CNN instapoll Hotlist

CNN, MoE 4%:

Who did the best job in the debate?

McCain (R) 30
Obama (D) 54

Opinion of Barack Obama (before debate)

Favorable: 64 (60)
Unfavorable: 34 (38)

Opinion of John McCain (before debate)

Favorable: 51 (51)
Unfavorable: 46 (46)

This is what "victory" looks like.

-----------------

Alot of people thought it was a tie, more than thought McCain won, so it's safe to say this wasn't the game changer McCain was really looking for.

most of the polling is done on land lines, which means most young voters are not reflected in the polls

damn, this thread moved fast.. i was referring to someone on the last page

Yeah, I don't believe my place has a land line. If so, my roommates haven't mentioned it.

To me, Obama came across as: "This is what will happen when I become President. This is the way things will be. This is what will happen to you."

McCain came across as: "We're going to work to try to do a, b, and c to make x, y, and z happen."

I'd rather have someone tell me that they're going to try to do something rather than tell me exactly how things are going to be, especially when I don't agree with most of the things they say will happen.

None of it really matters, but I thought McCain won tonight. His answers were more thoughtful and i thought he did a good job of making the case that Obama's foreign policy views really do sound naive.

Either way this won't win him any states and probably won't change the fact Obama is the next President.

Hoo-ray. I'm going to bed.

As opposed to Obama, who started every answer with "You know, that's one of the most important issues facing us..." Or, would you rather just have a guy that bends to the wills of public opinion.

I don't like McCain, and I won't vote for him, but I'd rather have a guy as President who will do what he thinks is best for America and not just what will get him the most votes.

^^was that an online poll on a conservative website, or was that a "a nationally representative poll of uncommitted voters" like CBS held that showed Obama as the winner?

I thought it was pretty even, but I'd give a slight edge to McCain, mostly because Obama went over a lot of the time. Most of their points I've heard before or read in blogs. It'll be interesting to see what the independent analysts have to say about some of their points.

And McCain said "my friends" way too much

More from the CNN snap poll:

Quote :
"Who expressed his views more clearly in the debate?

Obama 60
McCain 30

Who spent more time attacking his opponent?

Obama 17
McCain 63

Who seemed to be the stronger leader?

Obama 54
McCain 43

Who was most likeable?

Obama 65
McCain 28"

And as more results come in updating the CBS poll, as it becomes more and more accurate with the sample size filling out, it's showing Obama's numbers going up & McCain's going down from what I posted before.

42,000 people who watched the debate on foxnews ... 42,000 registered voters essentially....

the cbs poll of "uncommitted voters" are also the most likely to NOT VOTE in the election

HOWEVER

Quote :
"72 percent of uncommitted voters remained uncommitted after the debate. Fifteen percent committed to Obama, and 12 percent to McCain. "

Quote :
"Before the debate, 42 percent thought Obama was prepared for the job, and that percentage rose to 58 percent after the debate. But 77 percent felt McCain was prepared for the job before the debate, and 83 percent thought so afterwards."

the only factor that this poll shows is that neither has yet to rally the swing vote, but the obvious distinctive opinion is that 80 percent will likely enter the voting booth with a inherent positive feeling to vote for mccain ... its alot harder to prove nonexistent qualifications to sway those voters then it is to lose such overwhelming favorable opinions ... they may say obama on a phone poll, but the voting booth is a different ballgame

^ it did look like mccain was just trying to "introduce" him to his wife. but its pretty obvious that mccain REALLY dislikes obama...so it could have been a snub/partial snub

looks to me like obama dissed mccain

mccain patted obama on the back to initiate contact, first suggested he greet his wife, then mccain takes 2 seconds to wave to someone yelling at him and obama walks away

wow; i guess this is why they call it politics

who cares if they don't like each other; they both have been slinging mud for weeks about each other and are very opposite on many issues. would it not be natural to assume they maybe don't like each other? don't understand this country. we can't stand everyone famous for being so politically correct all the time and using "coachspeak" or whatever you want to call it and not say what they truly feel. then if someone ever says or does something that is not what you would expect everyone flies off the handle calling the person whatever for that situation.

they don't like each other and maybe didn't want to shake hands before the debate. who really cares?

historical voting tendencies do not favor obama on election day

im sure obama's local affiliates in every district will be organizing mass transportation or bussing for black voters in predominantly black regions

if the grassroots supporters can manage that in the swing states, and actually get the registered minority voters to the booth, than its over for mccain IMO
