I really like PFF for its high dividends and being more conservative.
Any other ETFs that are good dividend payers and not too risky? 12/9/2010 8:23:13 PM |

Buy the dip only makes sense in the context of a broader uptrend. One of my more profitable trades this year was selling puts against Arch Coal when it was taken down a peg or two around 20 while the market still seemed to be ready to keep moving up. I used the put proceeds to finance calls and basically made 1/3 of all my gains on that one trade because for once I had some time to look at everything for a trade, fundamentals, sentiment, and TA and they were all screaming buy. The stock is at 32 now and if it got knocked down in a similar fashion as Best Buy, then neither sentiment or TA would likely be point in the "buy" direction. 12/15/2010 11:05:00 PM |

zlc did good today. sold my remaining 4k shares of c today. i am now going to be pretty liquid going into next year. i may hold zlc for a few more days and see how it does. i want to be in 100% cash for jan 1 to see what bargains come up 1st quarter. 12/16/2010 6:58:46 PM |

why would you sell citigroup - when the stock hits $5 and the govt completly liquidates (if they haven't already), insitutional investors are going to pick it up. There are a lot of mutual funds that can't invest in stocks under $5. Banking will all be back soon, and citigroup is in a good position with all the foreign investment and exposure. 12/20/2010 10:26:36 PM |

Do you guys use any sector funds such as tech, utilities, financials? Or do you all primarily trade individual equities? I am looking at the Franklin Templeton Dynatech fund for the next 6-8 months. 12/22/2010 9:10:11 AM |

Well, with only a few trading days left this year, I'll answer this question, sort of.
In my retirement savings brokerage account, I made right at $5000 this year (counting realized and unrealized gains).
In my "hookers & blow" account, I made $9200 (again, counting realized and unrealized).
Not sure how much I made in my IRA. I'd guess about another $5000 or close to it.
Now, granted, this was an easy year to make money--general uptrend, and significant volatility at times for trading.12/26/2010 10:53:35 PM |

i think i am going to dump my zales tomorrow. they have done well and there is no reason to think it will keep up this pace. they are up 36.29% since i bought they maybe 2 weeks ago. i really am considering buying more. it is hard to decide if they will keep this up. i hate to be the guy to ride the wave to long. 12/27/2010 9:07:24 PM |

ok i need some help understanding this. zlc is kicking ass again today. they are up .30 on the day and total at 4.96. i bought them at 3.15 on the 15th of this month. i can not find out why they are moving up so rapidly. i am really happy with the gains but am wondering why it is being driven up so much. anyone have any ideas? i am sure it has to do with the projected dividend but would that be the only reason? you guys know more than me so whats up with it? 12/29/2010 4:47:34 PM |

In 2008 I was trading (frequent buys and sells) a lot, and I made a lot dollar amount wise. However, after short term taxes and margin charges and whatnot, my ROI wasn't better than if I had just bought and held AAPL.
2008 was also a tricky year.
Now I just hold longer cause I don't really have time to research shit. I'm not sure the kind of research I am capable of has any payoff, either. Since then, if I sold my long term stock, my ROI would be very good -- way better than shitty fucking 401k.
