apologies is a classic in my mind but the two albums since are still very strong. different styles from album to album but they each have that distinct WP feel with continuous momentum and intensity throughout. I think this line from the Pitchfork review of This is Happening sums up what LCD Soundsystem does and why James Murphy is important pretty nicely:
Quote : | "it would be shortsighted to cry rip-off; Murphy is remaking essential 70s art-rock in his own hyper-modern, self-aware image" |
And quotes like this (from Murphy himself) are why I love him
Quote : | "I spent my whole life wanting to be cool... but I've come to realize that coolness doesn't exist the way I once assumed" |

someone explain Beck to me. as someone who has never really been a big Beck fan and thus hasn't spent much time with his music it seems some of his albums are so completely 180 degrees from one another it doesn't even seem like the same artist. That being said, i really love the album sea change. Do any of his newer albums (after Midnight Vultures) have that same kind of sound? I'm really over the Odelay stylings and don't want to waste my time listening to his other works if they are in that realm

That's pretty much what he's going for.
Also, he's released three albums since Sea Change. None are stylistically similar to Sea Change, but why don't you just listen to them and decide for yourself.

like others have said, all of his albums are pretty different, and i don't think he's done anything stylistically similar to odelay since mutations. i'd recommend guero and modern guilt for sure. i never listened to the information much, but all of his stuff tends to grow on you with each listen.

^ I dig it, too, but why Of Montreal in quotes, as if they're some theoretical band? They've been making music for well over a decade, and their early stuff is markedly different and actually much better than their current stuff. You can take the quotes out; I assure you Of Montreal is a very real band. 5/21/2010 11:24:52 AM |
marko Tom Joad 72828 Posts user info edit post |
now that's just silly
now i'm going to refer to them as: [OF MONTREAL] 5/21/2010 11:33:44 AM |
dillydaliant All American 1991 Posts user info edit post |
Cool...I'll refer to you as "marko"
Look "marko"..."punctuation" can actually be an "important" thing when referring to "bands" or anything. It can make it seem less real or legitimate or serious. That's the only "point" I was trying to "make," "marko." I just find it an "odd" mistake considering "bands" are almost never put in "quotes."

So, most people here might still not like it, but I figured I'd post up one full track from our new album. But the track I am posting up is a huge departure from our normal sound and is the 2nd to last track on our upcoming album. We are a progressive metal band but the song I am posting is a really atmospheric electronics-based rock track with 90% of the vocals being traditional singing vocals.
http://www.purevolume.com/calledtoarms
The 2nd track up there is a 5 minute teaser that shows a lot of material from the album, obviously in our more usual style.
We aren't officially promoting it still so I posted it on purevolume instead of the real sites we'll use to promote. Anyway, maybe some of you will like the first track I posted since the non-metal fans here always complained about the vocals in the past. So this one is for you (Also, the other guitarist and I really just wanted to right something totally out of our element and were really excited how it turned out). 5/21/2010 12:24:17 PM |

i don't think the of montreal track is that bad, but i'm also a pretty big skeletal lamping apologist (nor can i stand their earlier material). 5/21/2010 12:51:22 PM |
