in boring offseason notes, the Panthers retained 75.4% of last year's roster.
with all the change, i figured it would be lower but i suppose not
Vikings retained the most at 94.4% Seahawks retained the least at 66.1%

Thomas Davis may have just reinjured his ACL yesterday. i am praying that this is not true, but he took a spill yesterday and sources say he was rolling on the ground screaming.

I say we offer Adalius Thomas a one year deal to shine here (and then move on when TD heals up) or sunset here (he's old by now).
Also wish we hadnt already lost the option of Will Witherspoon who just went to the Titans. He was beastly when he was here from 2003-2005. 6/9/2010 9:55:26 PM |

^I think its pretty safe to say the panthers aren't bringing any big names in this off season.
LB was one of the few positions where we actually have some quality depth, so it could have been worse...Imo, he shouldn't have been practicing so soon after an acl injury anyway...7 months is a really quick return, regardless of how the healing process has went. 6/10/2010 9:27:50 AM |

damn that sucks about Davis. I forgot about Norwood. He'll provide good depth but hopefully Fox can plug someone else in so that Norwood doesn't have to be depended on as a rookie. Break him in on special teams. 6/10/2010 10:52:57 AM |

^^James Anderson will likely play a lot of minutes there...that's the pass rush spot, so I doubt Connor would slide in, especially since he has been playing MLB recently(i imagine that will change with the injury to Davis). not sure which side Norwood will play yet, but I imagine he would be good in run support in Diggs' old strongside position taking on TE's. also his coverage skills aren't NFL ready yet, so Anderson's speed and athleticism probably means Anderson/Williams in Davis' spot and Norwood/Connor on the other side?...they need some more depth to make all that work.
Congrats on a great career to Moose! 6/10/2010 2:26:44 PM |

Moose retiring was the 2nd moment Ive had in the last week that made me realize DAMN i'm old. (griffey)
I always had a good feeling about him when we drafted him, partly because I just love big receivers.
Great career, wish we couldve retained him when he left for chicago but both sides realized it was a pure business decision.
Hopefully he's set himself up financially and he really did just let his house go was because it was so far underwater.
Lot of controversy for one career, I still blame him for blowing up the nigger comment that forced Kerry Collins out and left us high and dry but he was a great Panther.
He's one of the only receivers to lead the league in receptions, yards, and TD's in a single season. He's testified in Diedra Lane and Rae Carruth's murder trials. He has the super bowl record for longest TD ever. He made comments about turtle's being green and got flamed. He took responsibility in Chicago for Kyle Orton being terrible. He caught a TD pass in two separate super bowls.
His real name is Melvin.
Its impressive that he was only ever caught with soft drugs in the NFL after coming from Michigan State... he was barely before Jeff "where there's Coke there's Smoke" Smoker, Charlie "Pills" Rodgers, and TJ "Fuckit i cant read" Duckett.

Quote : | "Following the probable season-ending injury to starting weak-side linebacker Thomas Davis, the Panthers took to the practice field Thursday with a new alignment across the middle.
Per Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette, the Panthers are now practicing with three-year middle linebacker Jon Beason at Davis' old position on the weak side. Oft-injured former Penn State star Dan Connor is now with the first string inside. James Anderson remains the strong-side linebacker.
Jamar Williams, acquired via trade from the Bears earlier this offseason, appears poised to be the Panthers' No. 4 linebacker, and top backup at all three positions.
While at first glance it seems odd that the Panthers would move Beason out of a longtime role in which he's been highly productive, the weak-side linebacker in coordinator Ron Meeks' Tampa-2 system is arguably just as valuable, if not more, than the starter in the middle. Beason's physical style and athleticism make him a potentially terrific fit for the new position." |

interesting...I would hope that Beason and Anderson would play in nickel packages and Beason in dime

I'm actually not that worried about Dan Connor. I thought he was a draft steal few years ago. The guy was a beast in college. The only real concern about him is his relatively lack of athleticism compare to Beason, but not a lot of LBs are more athletic than Beason anyway. The MLB position doesn't require as much athleticism as the OLB positions, so I think Connor will do fine. 6/11/2010 1:44:36 PM |
