honestly, im looking forward to watching state this year. Any college football fan would enjoy watching Nate Irving. just wow. And that offense should finally start to really gel. If you guys can stop some deep passes, you should finally break loose with the W/L's a little. and for the love of god please keep beating carolina.
Do us a favor and go beat down UCF. They are annoying. And since ya'll are from the mighty ACC you wouldn't wanna lose to two CUSA schools in the same season. =)

Dean Haynes #29
Class: RS Freshman Hometown: Tunnell Hill, Ga. High School: NW Whitfield County Height / Weight: 5-11 / 193 Position: CB A home run threat anytime he touches the ball, Haynes has scary speed. He is also very strong and will not come down by an arm tackle alone. On defense, he is as physical a DB as I have seen. Could play corner but could easily move to safety due to tackling ability. Needs to continue flexibility program and harness his energy. A character guy in the truest sense, Haynes is a natural leader--Burke Hayes
In 2009: Redshirted the season ... Earned a 3.123 GPA for the fall semester and was invited to participate in the 2010 freshman convocation at NC State ... Named the Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week versus Pittsburgh and won the award for the defense before the UNC victory.
Prep: Played most of his senior season at quarterback and running back under Coach Mike Falluer at Northwest Whitfield County High School ... Led the area in rushing with 878 yards and 18 touchdowns... Passed for 782 yards and three scores to lead the area with 121 points scored... Selected as the player of the year for the area... Given the Bruin Award for best all-around player as a senior... A Class 4A first-team all-state selection his senior year... Named to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Georgia Top 150...Named to the All-Southeast Region class of 2009 by Prep Star... During his junior campaign, he registered 99 tackles, and seven interceptions... Also played running back, rushing 43 times for 428 yards and nine touchdowns in 2007... Tallied 56 tackles and three interceptions as a sophomore... Named to the all-area team for three straight years, as a defensive back his sophomore and junior seasons, and as the quarterback his senior year... Also ran track ... Wow. I just watched highlights etc...from several games last year; Audie Cole has no business playing SLB for us. (see 2009 Clemson v. State game some Clemson fan put up on youtube). For a guy that is bigger than a few of our DE that was a QB in HS why in the hell does TOB think he should be out in space covering TE's and Slot Receivers?
If anything we should have and extra CB/S/ or a guy like Hans Rice or DJ Green out ther covering in space.
Hopefully Tenuta will knock some sense into Archer and get Cole's ass off the field. Thoughts?

He is actually pretty damn fast for a dude his size. He was still thinking about what he had to do instead of doing it.

Yeah hopefully Cole will be more instinctful this season, but he did get burned on a number of plays and is slow for a LB. He definitely should not be on the field for obvious pass plays. 8/6/2010 11:22:36 AM |

Yeah, Cole sucked horribly in space last year, but he's a borderline freak with his athleticism/speed. He's also a hell of a pass-rusher.
I think a year in the system + Tenuta's influence (more blitzing) are gonna make Cole a pretty nasty LB in time. 8/6/2010 11:23:35 AM |
sncsu3 Veteran 113 Posts user info edit post |
Point taken; but is he really that fast for a LB? I'm guessing he is 6-5 235-250 lbs? He should be a DE IMO.
^ Hell of a pass rusher as DE but no way as a SLB.

^^Saying that the offense is finally going to gel this year is idiotic since the offense put up over 30 points a game last year. And yes, the pass defense was terrible last year but anyone with half a brain already knew that so acting like it's insightful analysis is equally moronic. Also, the suggestion (even in jest) that ECU will beat us this year is laughable, with 17 starters gone and a new head coach you'll be lucky to get to 6 wins. 8/7/2010 3:07:13 AM |

ok lets break that video down. TJ starts 20 yards behind Audie slows down half way through and cuts back and Audie is still well behind him. I know he isn't going to keep up with him but I wouldn't say he "roughly" kept up with him either. Go back and watch last season. He struggles wrapping up, driving through the ball, and doubts himself more than I do. He may play but he wouldn't be playing many other plays 8/7/2010 4:51:22 AM |

No, the deep ball wasn't our main problem last year on defense, and that was mostly because opposing teams didn't have to worry about going deep. It was the short passes that killed us and then the failure to make open field tackles. A simple 5 yard pass for the QB would then became a 15 yard play. Mike Archer puts 10 yard cushions on the WR just about every play, and to make matters worse was he would also drop the LBs. It would really get me hot when he would do it on something like 3rd and 3, that's a pretty easy decision for a QB to make. It was either a quick slant or a WR/TE would settle underneath the LB, just enough to move the sticks. Don't get me wrong our DBs are bad, very bad, but the defensive play calling pretty much set them up for failure. I guess IMO we should have at least tried jamming the WRs at the line. If they beat you once, oh well it happens. But I want your QB to prove to me that he can consistently beat me over the top. What is the average completion of rate of passes over 15 yards in NCAA? I'm not sure, but I would doubt its much over 30%8/7/2010 8:42:21 AM |

Go back and look again. At about the NC State 30, Cole stops trying to actively block people and just starts running with TJ, and TJ gains about 5 yards on him until the BC 15-10 when he starts to pull up.
That's roughly keeping up when they're both just running downfield, keeping in mind that Graham is the fastest dude on the team and Cole isn't.8/7/2010 2:15:17 PM |

I don't know if there's a more pointless debate than whether Audie Cole can keep up with TJ Graham.
Anyways, from the N&O today:
Quote : | "
Fresh off spending the spring and summer playing baseball, N.C. State quarterback Russell Wilson still is adjusting to his first full-team drills since November.
Meanwhile, sophomore cornerback C.J. Wilson is emerging as a possible leader in a defensive backfield that struggled last season. Coach Tom O'Brien and defensive coordinator Mike Archer gave an update on training camp Friday evening.
Russell Wilson, who missed spring practice, isn't in midseason form yet.
"He hasn't been really sharp throwing the football, but he hasn't thrown it since November in team situations," O'Brien said. "He's got to get that back, and he's working hard at that."
O'Brien also complimented Wilson on his improved pocket presence. In the past, defenses have bottled up Wilson because of his habit of trying to escape pressure by running sideways.
"He got caught as people defended him and knew what he did," O'Brien said. "So he's got to be able to step up in the pocket and throw. You can take off and run stepping up if everything's covered. He's worked hard on that aspect."
C.J. Wilson returned an interception for a touchdown on the opening day of practice and continues to be a leader. He's only a sophomore, but he is one of N.C. State's most experienced players in the secondary.
"C.J. in particular has had some really good practices," Archer said. "He's shown leadership because he has played more than anybody else."
Archer said sophomore Terrell Manning has emerged as a starting outside linebacker; he has spent about a year running neck and neck with Dwayne Maddox. And on the defensive line, end David Akinniyi has impressed coaches early.
He is a transfer student who joined N.C. State for his senior season after Northeastern dropped football.
"David Akinniyi has had a great summer, and I think David has had a good camp," Archer said. "It's hard to tell without putting full pads on, but just based on retention, work habits, leadership, David has done well."
N.C. State's most highly regarded recruit, offensive tackle Robert Crisp from Raleigh's Athens Drive High, has started slowly. But O'Brien said that's natural and hasn't ruled out playing Crisp in the season opener.
"His head is swimming," O'Brien said. "That's what I can tell you right now, but that's the way all freshman linemen are. The vocabulary is different, everything is different up front, and the speed of the game is a lot faster. He's swimming right now, but he's got four weeks to go [before the opener], so maybe he can make it. We don't know."" |
