Im not surprised theyre in the top 10, but I honestly thought some of the larger market teams would be ahead simply based on market size. I kinda figured the dogers and cardinals would be ahead with maybe the tigers.

The only people who care about the Dodgers are 90 year-olds in Brooklyn

And Detroit? Really?

^^One of the 8 original teams, large market, played in WS in 06, and Michigan has good sports history.

Braves are one of the original two teams (not sure that really matters), play in a larger market and have had a sustained run of success much more recently than the Tigers (since '88 they've only finished > .500 in consecutive years once).

The only bad part is that so few of their fans actually live in Atlanta

One could say that is because of TBS showing all their games back in the day. that is missed.

[Edited on July 15, 2011 at 6:03 PM. Reason : TBS was already mentioned. must read thread before posting.]

LOL at some of the guys in this group. Marty Perez, Craig Skok, Jim Hash, Marvin Freeman. I'd love to go to this just to see who go fat. I'm sure Clontz and McMichael are both pushing 300.

Did Mike Bell and CJ Nitkowski ever actually play for the Braves. I remember Mike Bell being some black OF dude that was a surefire future all star coming up through the minors and CJ Nitkowski played for the Tigers and had his own website which was a big deal back in the 90s.

let's get this Derek Lowe trade done already. Give the Tigers like $10 mil, they only have to pay him about $11 mil for a year and a half of his ass. I would guess the Tigers aren't going to part with a decent hitter, so 3-way trade and pick up Beltran/Pence/Francoeur or whoever.

One of these does not belong with the other two. Seriously Francoeur? Someone actually would trade something of value for that guy? I would not trade a Snickers bar for his ass.

Now Hunter Pence would be an amazing addition. No way in hell the Braves get him without giving up a guy like Teheran or Vizcaino, but man he would add a new dimension to this lineup.

i mean obviously, but i was trying to think of right handed OFs that are available.. I'm sure we could get him back with just giving up lowe, while one of the others would take another pitcher.

Plus he's not that bad. Sure he doesn't get on base, but he's a solid OF, hits lefties real well, and he's actually stealing bases this year.. maybe the time away from terry pendleton made him a better player

I read something last week that laid out the Braves 2012 payroll. Assuming Chipper and Lowe are gone, it's already in the $85m+ range, which is as high as Liberty wants it.

There's no way Lowe isn't traded, either this month or after the season, and there's no way the Braves are sending any cash along with him. Needs to happen sooner rather than later -- he's a great second half pitcher supposedly, but his stock goes down every time he takes the mound.

Lowe's getting old, getting worse, and is still owed like $16m through next year. Unless someone goes down before Aug 31, I'm pretty sure Wren is comfortable enough with the team not to trade away any young pitching -- plus there's not a lot available (Mets want a lot for Beltran, Astros won't move Pence). They'll probably pick up a right-handed Eric Hinske off the scrap heap and he'll hit a homer in game one of the NLDS and everyone will love him but really he'll suck and be non-tendered in the offseason.

Pence would definitely be a swindle... but I could see Willingham... but when Chipper comes back where do you play him? The right handed bat part sounds legit, the names are what I came up with as possibilities
