I agree with BigHit on RW. RW has never had an offseason to focus his efforts and become a better player at either sport, and now the Rockies are saying enough is enough. 5/3/2011 3:09:22 PM |

The funny thing is, baseball is the sport you need the least prep work for as far as integrating yourself into a team. Yeah, you need to spend time honing your swing before the season, but you can do that on your own or with a trainer. But as far as being part of a team, you can go to a new team and be in the lineup the next day.
With football, especially learning a new offense, you really need several weeks of work with your teammates to be ready to play. Which makes that September 5th date a real red flag if he does in fact intend to toss the pigskin for one more year. 5/3/2011 3:36:06 PM |

Quote : | "why wouldn't he at least discuss this with the Rockies? seems very unprofessional" |
I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out yet but he is very clearly hedging his bets. Or, stated another way, leaving his options open.
If I'm working for company A (the rockies) and I'm either
1) Not sure they are going to keep me, or 2) Not sure I want to stay there
then you best believe I want to secure something with company B (NCSU). And I'm likely not going to tell company A what I am up to for fear they will resort to not wanting me.5/3/2011 5:33:09 PM |
Slave Famous Become Wrath 34079 Posts user info edit post |
Company B isn't a company. Its a voluntary deviation from his normal career path. What can he "secure" with company B? Three months of work and then what? He's a baseball player moonlighting as a football player, not the other way around. Playing football this fall would be purely a luxury. 5/3/2011 5:36:38 PM |

Well, he can't very well fucking do two things at once? Hey, I'm pretty good at programming in C and Labview. I'm currently doing things in C but people say ultimately my future is in Labview. Hey, i tried it out awhile and I'm not sure I like it or I'm not sure (and the people that pay me aren't so sure) I'm as good at it as I advertised. Maybe I should think about going back over to C.
For starters, you're taking this whole job analogy way too far but you're failing at it nonetheless.
The bottom line is he is keeping his options open for how he wants to spend the next 6-12 months of his life.

Russell Wilson doesn't have a choice. He can't choose to be a baseball player or a football player. He is a baseball player. He is not programming code. He doesn't give a fuck about code. His decision boils down to whether he wants to play football for free or not. This is not two jobs. This is a job and a hobby. This is programming code vs fishing. Trading stocks vs riding bikes. Selling insurance vs Dungeons and Dragons. Job...Hobby. Hobby...Job. I can't really make it any more black and white. 5/3/2011 5:53:40 PM |

Russell Wilson will never make a dime from football, and you could easily make the argument that he's costing himself money by not committing full time to baseball. Even if not now, then down the road, when (if) he takes longer to reach the big leagues, thus delaying his service clock. Please help me to understand your argument, if in fact you have one. 5/3/2011 6:09:58 PM |

Thats one chode-on-a-message-board's opinion. You also don't have dick of an idea what is running through his head. I'd be mildly shocked if he honestly thought "eh, I got millions in future earnings on lockdown with this here baseball thing, I wanna fuck around with college football for one more year". Neither you or I can prove one way or another until he says so.

Yeah, I'm not questioning your internet all star assessment. I'm saying the very decision to engage in a "hobby" that can only negatively impact your earning potential is a decision that next to no one would make...therefore, Wilson isn't making it solely on that basis. 5/3/2011 7:22:17 PM |

From the N&O today
New theory. Tysiac chose to be creative in his characterizations of RW's football trajectory this year. So how is he coming back in JUNE (< 4 weeks) and he's not discussed this with the Rockies? His team is in first place in their division which would take him into late september for the playoffs.

At this point, Nice job by TOB in scratching Russell from the roster in order to give a scholly to someone who is committed to playing for us... Someone who showed up for Spring practice... someone who would not have received a scholly otherwise.
If he was an absolute, then I dont think TOB would have ever started planning around MG. But he knew that time was short and that there was no guarantee ... TOB is not a gambler, and so, true to himself, he had to plan around MG. 5/4/2011 9:37:31 AM |
