Wood didn't get beat even as close to as much as everyone on here thinks...and definitely not close to being one of the worst on the team.

You guys need to learn how to watch a basketball game.

I watch like Dan Dakich. I find someone to blame on every possession and feel smart about it.

Wood improved tremendously as a defender over his four years. He still couldn't stay in front of quick 3s but he was much better closing out and getting through screens.

Speaking of getting beat off the dribble and lost on screens, I may hear over to the Zo Brown thread.

I feel that Scott, CJ, and Brown to a lesser extent all kinda coasted on defense if their offense wasn't working for them in a particular game. Part of that is Gott's offense first philosophy (they gotta guard us too pal), but those guys in particular, probably due their roles in the offense, suffered from it the most. Warren was like this too early in the year, but he really picked up his defense and rebounding late in the season.

during the final stretch of the season, Warren was always in the EXACT right spot to get the rebound, which is part of the art of rebounding

it seemed like every bounce off the rim went right to him. hopefully that's a sign of things to come

There's no question Wood got beat several times because he wasn't quick enough to stay in front of his man. But most of the time, he kept his man in front of him with his length and footwork. And you can't discount a block from behind after he got beat just because he got beat. If CJL is out of position yet uses his athletic ability to still get a block it's a good play...but because Scott Wood is slow and gets beat...yet recovers to make the play, he still sucks at defense??

The last few years, Wood has often drawn a tough defensive assignment. Sometimes this past year it went to Purvis and Brown got Green and Harris in the ACC tournament. But the coaches wouldn't consistently put Wood on leading scorers if they thought he was going to give up 30+.

Sorry gunzz, but playing in a middle-aged church league doesn't make you an expert, I don't care how many screens you set or box-and-ones your coaches calls.

Fun fact: Scott Wood has 80 career blocks. He's top 15 on NC State's all-time career blocks list.

i reckon gottfried never has, because he complimented wood's defense fairly reguarly. so did some of the other coaches.

if Brown and Leslie do go pro, I really hope Wood and Howell either get drafted at the end of the 2nd round, or make a team as free agents

that way we can be like UNC fans next year and be like "but we had 4 players leave for the NBA!"

they have to just be running a small lineup... maybe he'll defend the 'centers' of the other teams.

Was just thinking about how awesome the atmosphere at the Wood's Murcia game.

But looks like the top teams in Europe are at a completely different level
