I've seen tackles like that shown a yellow and I could see it from a ref who would be trying to control any game, especially a derby, and try and stop anything before it started. In anyone other game, that tackle is not a card at all. To me the ref was looking to control the game more, but did so in the worst way possible by showing a red.

In the game of soccer that is not a foul, but in the context of a derby with a ref who is seen as card happy, seeing a yellow there would not be something out of the ordinary. The fact that he showed red is absolute bullshit, but a yellow would not have been a shock given the ref's history.

Minimal contact. Not even a foul. He hops up off his "injured" foot, lands on it, and then goes down like he's shot clutching and screaming in agony. He then goes off the pitch for treatment, pretends like it actually hurt as he limps around and comes back on the field like nothing even happened. He played a big role in the red card whether you believe it or not.

I'm not saying Atkinson isn't to blame. He is the biggest to blame by leaps and bounds. But if Suarez doesn't act like a fucking pussy bitch then Rodwell never gets sent off. Suarez is a fucking punk.

both of his legs hit suarez, right by his knee and at his foot. that's a foul. it wasn't bad and that doesnt get called all the time, but he hit him with both legs, it's dumb. i hate when suarez embellishes just as much as anyone, but rodwell followed through way too high. the ref was stupid for calling it anything more though.

Every player when they feel contact (and there was, this wasn't a complete dive like you're acting it was) will make a point to show there was contact. Suarez is definitely bitchy when embellishing dives I admit but I didn't think it was that bad this time. I didn't think it was a foul either but I think it would be called as one around 50% of the time, no matter the other player/game/referee. It just looks like one. Now the red card, or even a yellow if he had given one, would have been unjustified.
