The Mario kart trophy comment was good too.
State had two options, let Marshall shoot or let him drive and dish to Zeller/Henson for easy buckets. Honestly I wish Brown could keep Marshall out of the lane, but he can't so we had to let him shoot and of course he had the best shooting game of his life. Sucks for State, but that's how it goes for us.
Marshall won't be so awesome next year once his two 7 foot 1st round picks are not standing on the blocks.

You are absolutely correct that Marshall will be exposed if zeller, Henson, and Barnes go pro.
Same thing happened to Cota after jamison and carter left and Cota was significantly better than Marshall.
He is going to be leaving millions on the table if he doesn't go pro with them. May as well start learning bulgarian right now 2/22/2012 11:23:52 AM |

When you play a top 10 team you pick your poison...we left the window open for their pass first PG to get the best looks. Not the two centers who are better and bigger, not the small forward who an all american and a ridiculous tough cover..... but their point guard who is not an established shooter. The guy shot over 80 percent from the field, will that really happen again??? I think not.
Bottom line is that we played tough and did not roll over like last time. The crowd was awesome and I'm proud of the team. We are on the cusp of greatness, but the reality is that we should not beat this team based on their roster and ranking. We hung with them and gave them a fight. A lot of good came out of this game in my opinion and hopefully this will set us up for a strong acc tournament showing. You cannot deny the improvement. 2/22/2012 11:28:10 AM |

I liked it when Alex Johnson tried to post up Stillman White in typical playground style..."BALL! BALL! BALL! I'VE GOT THE WHITE BOY ON ME" He proceeds to force up a shot that misses bad, White gets the ball, leaves Johnson in his wake, and then feeds Zeller for an easy two.
That was funny.

Cota was never considered a first-round pick, and he didn't drop at all after losing Jamison and Carter. He was top-five in assists in the country all four years.
You don't go from first-round to D-League when your numbers never fall off. You are who you are. Cota was 5'10", he was never getting drafted.

Deshawn is the worst.
7 of his 10 shots were 18 footers, which means UNC instantly rebounded the misses because our big was shooting the ball, which means you might as well count that as a turnover.
This was the second questioned that was answered during the game -- should Painter actually be shooting that 18 footer. The answer was a resounding NO. 2/22/2012 6:27:41 PM |

My favorite foul was McAdoo blantalanty running straight into CJL while he was in mid air instead of just moving out of the way.
But yet since arms aren't involved it is not an intentional.

Painter is a borderline top 100 recruit who has steadily improved each season and offers us somewhat productive minutes against mediocre and bad teams. He pretty much won the Miami game for us by being unstoppable. Yes, he's a liability against top big men like UNC has. His offensive rating is 102. His rebounding rates are comparable to CJL. His FG% is very low, but he draws an inordinate amount of fouls and he is a solid FT shooter for a big man which gives him a TS% of 49% which is respectable. He also takes a lot of jumpers which isn't ideal but it does help with some of the spacing issues we have.
Levi Watkins on the other hand who was a top 35-40 recruit who made 3 consecutive 3's in the red-white game his freshman year and then proceeded to miss every shot for the next four seasons. He was also one of the worst rebounding big men to ever grace the court and he looked as though he might have an emotional breakdown at any moment. 2/22/2012 10:07:19 PM |

yeah Watkins was actually having his first decent game of his career vs Maryland his freshman year and then tore his ACL.
I can't remember if he re-injured it but he definitely had some setbacks. It sapped his athleticism but I don't think he ever had the confidence to live up to his billing. 2/22/2012 10:28:02 PM |

I'll still defend him...honestly the only shot I had a problem with him taking last night was the jumper he took after curling off the screen like he was redick or wood or something...we were stagnant on offense and he made a couple buckets
he's not a great player, but he's gotten better, and he can knock down the 16 foot jumper when he's open and has a second or so to square up
i dont want him shooting that shot all the time, but he's certainly improved on it and when he is about to shoot a 16 footer i'm a lot more "no, no, no...yes, yes, yes!" than when Howell or Leslie takes a shot from that range]2/22/2012 10:34:32 PM |

Painter's holding his own while playing a pretty big role, basically being one of only 3 capable front court players on the team and the only back-up for foul-prone (and cramping) howell and leslie.
And I can't believe you're ripping LW, the team's assistant director of operations. He introduced lutz to the iPad! 2/22/2012 11:38:47 PM |

I'll defend Painter too. I agree with Tree, he may have taken one too many shots. I remember that one too where he did a catch-and-shoot. But he's proven he can knock down the long jumper.
But he plays smart and knows his range. I never get upset about his play like I do about CJL and Howell. 2/23/2012 9:48:56 AM |

it's fine if painter wants to shoot jumpers with the shot clock winding down, but when there are 25+ seconds left, there are much better options. even more so when you factor in that he won't be anywhere near the rim for a rebound in the event of a miss. 2/23/2012 9:51:45 AM |
