I'd pick the phantom except I'd go with the regular safety. I have an SP-01 Tactical and it makes me look like a better shooter than I really am. I like the decocker and my other pistols are Sigs which are also decockers. However, if I could do it over again I'd get the regular safety. The decocker only CZ 75s have only one hammer hook due to having to accommodate the deco king parts. This limits the amount of trigger work you can do and you can't get aftermarket hammers to improve the triggers. The decocker trigger isn't bad (it sure as hell is better than a striker fired gun), I just want it to be better.11/24/2012 1:35:19 AM |

^^ Which one? I really like EOTechs, the only thing that made me choose an Aimpoint over one was the battery life. I think I might switch back at some point though, the EOTech I had was back when they used N batteries which were expensive and died way too fast. 11/24/2012 5:58:03 PM |

I wonder if there are any good deals on ammo today.
My friend found an old box of .223 from Georgia Arms in the closet at his parents'. $80 for 500 rounds.
Maybe I need to switch to steel case. 11/26/2012 10:26:29 AM |

Is it worth a shit? I'm hesitant on buying GA stuff now after my experience with their bulk .357sig rounds. Probably won't go with them again unless the gun in question is a complete garbage disposal

I have shot about 2k of the GA .40 canned heat. I found one round that had the bullet seated too deep, and had 3 or 4 FTfire. I have shot about 1k of the .223 canned heat and had zero problems. 11/26/2012 11:48:36 AM |

ok I'll ask here. I'm looking into getting a shotgun, but I'm a complete noob. Main usage will be skeet shooting or stationary targets. Some home defense usage, but hopeflly things don't come to that . Hoping to spend maybe $2-300. Any suggestions?11/28/2012 3:00:06 PM |

Buy a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. Make sure that you get the two barrel combo if you want it both for clays/skeet/trap and for home defense.
You don't want a 28" barrel for HD, and you don't want a 18.5" barrel for clays.
I have a Mossberg 590 pump, but the Rem870 has a larger aftermarket.

Just thought I would do a quick first impression of something I bought...
I got a Baikal MP220 coach gun today for $279.99 at Hyatt's. I ordered it through their online store and picked it up here in Charlotte at their retail location (no transfer fee, etc).
Thing is absolutely built like a tank! Not the most attractive gun, but at least as good-looking as a Stoeger and way better than most Chinese coach guns.
It is also substantially cheaper than the Stoeger and Chinese competition and IMO a much more sturdy gun. The triggers feel pretty good and although stiff at first I've been opening and closing it for awhile and it has improved hugely.
The safety seems rock solid and I seriously doubt it will have any recoil issues. The wood was surprisingly attractive compared to the generic-grain you usually see in cheap shotguns. I'm sure its some cheap shit russian crap, but at least it has some character (and weight)!
2 3/4 chamber only, which is fine with me since 3 inch shells in a break-action aren't too cool anyway. Front post is extremely low and from what I've read Baikals shoot extremely flat and generally you're supposed to cover the target with it.
Takes apart quickly and easily (no fuss) and easy to reassemble. Came packaged in a very nice USSG box without too much grease on the gun itself.
A word on Hyatt's... Great store as long as you don't pay sticker for anything on the walls. They will haggle with you and I think they expect it. Prices are ridiculous otherwise, but I'm sure they occasionally con some dumb yuppie. The location in Charlotte has an excellent reloading section now for anyone interested; it's only a few months old.
Ammo prices are meh.
Seems like they're having a closeout on shotguns this week, new and used, but since I ordered this one it didn't apply. Although I haven't shot it yet it seems like possibly the best deal I've ever gotten on a new weapon. I just wanted something compact that could beat around in my car cheaply, but I'm typically weary of being used guns. I didn't expect this thing to look or handle this good, and I'm sure it will last a very long time.
I also have some 9mm ammo for sale/trade:
I dont have a need for this type of ammo, but maybe someone here does? Thanks! 11/29/2012 2:30:01 PM |

I am looking a talking point gun.
I want something I can add to my gun cabinet that has history or is quite rare.
I was thinking something along the civil war rifle type...any other ideas?
any one have anything of the sorts that would be and interesting one to own?
also, I have a grip from what seems to be a smith and wesson.. can anyone tell me what gun it was on? it has markings on the inside N-LH-5912 and N-RH-5913 I know LH and RH designate the sides.

Trapdoor Springfield rifles or carbines are a good, fun, relatively cheap way to get in on that type of gun.
They are good shooters with appropriate ammo and are pretty much all appreciating in value.
Their prices cover the whole gamut or condition/rarity; it's just up to you how much time you want to spend researching and chasing them. They aren't very hard to find (in general), but they can be fun to pursue.
I don't know very much about old/historical guns anyway, but something else that might be worth investing in would be a quality reproduction.
Now before I get heckled all to shit over this realize I'm talking about something like a Shiloh or C Sharps 1874.
Sometimes you can find neat things here: http://www.cherrys.com/
They are pretty well-known worldwide and also located in Greensboro NC! Probably the most eclectic collection you'll find around here. I don't think too much of their pricing on newish weapons.
Another interesting weapon would be something chambered in 577 Snider. A Martini-Enfield or something similar. Ammo can be formed from 28 gauge shotgun grass I believe... Seems like Nepalese guns in this caliber aren't very hard to find either, but are probably a sound investment.
Or some type of drilling/cape gun would be interesting. Something I've been eying on Cherry's site for awhile is this:
Quote : | "German Guild Cape Gun, 16 Gauge/9.3X72R SXS Rifle/Shotgun Combo With 27 3/4" Barrels, 2 3/4" Chamber, Barrels 60% Brown Finish, Nice Stock With Ammo Compartment, Exposed Hammers, Back Action Locks, No Finish On Receiver, C&R Gun, Modified Choke, Pop-Up Tang, 2-Leaf Express Sight" |
I'd post the picture, but it's friggin huge. Looks like a very classy double barrel. It is on their "long guns in stock" page.

Also on Cherry's site.
I know it has been restored but the good thing about Cherry's is if you email them about the weapon they are probably going to have the story behind it. They are reputable enough too I would probably believe whatever they told me.
Lord Sydney Fogglebottom III brought it back from Bhutan along with a spot of tea after blasting some godless savages, etc.
Or get on gunbroker and establish your budget... Go looking at what appear to be common lever action rifles, but concentrate more on the date of manufacture. It would be awesome to have a Winchester from the turn of the century, or maybe a take down model, etc.

after a bit of research it appears the grip is from a model 27 S&W
as for collectible guns something like an 1863 springfield seems interesting to me and wiki says it was the most used gun in the civil war, so im thinking they may not be hard to find?
something along those lines intrigues me.

So I went to North Raleigh Guns on Westgate Rd over the weekend and they refused to do an interstate transfer on a long gun. Saturday, they transferred a pistol for me no problem. Sunday was different:
me: "Hello, I live in SC and I need to transfer this shotgun to my buddy here who lives in Raleigh" NRG manager: "um you don't need to do that here" me: "..." NRG: "go do it face to face, outside in the parking lot. it's a long gun so we don't have to do that" me: "the ATF says interstate transfers of firearms must take place at an FFL" ATF NRG: "that isn't true. we will not do this transfer, have a nice day"
the shop itself is nice enough, and apparently they're building a huge range near brier creek. but encouraging customers to commit federal crimes, even unwittingly, is not a good business practice, and I probably won't go back there in the future.
and for what it's worth, Carolina Gunrunners off Durant Rd did do the transfer, no charge.
