^^ Take camera, point it at subject, then tip your head to the left kind of like how a dog looks at you when they are confused. Usually the top of the subject's head is pointed to the top left of the photo and their feet are coming out of the bottom right.

i know these are rather simplistic - but i'm simple so get over it.
i had a lot of fun trying out my new lens on my hike. certainly going to take some getting used to though.
the new one is manual focus only - so it's been fun being forced to mess around with it 6/12/2011 8:39:57 PM |

oh so you're shooting on 35mm with only on-board sound as well? 6/13/2011 4:24:03 PM |

I like to joke about being a Dogme 95 sound designer
and ARE there any 35mm cameras that have onboard sound? I thought film stock necessitated magnetic tape for the audio
- anyway, I've never used the shoe mounted light panel but I interacted with a crew from MTV World and they were using them I suppose its handy for down and dirty field interviews and whatnot where you would have no time to set up lighting 6/13/2011 4:27:05 PM |

I've got a question NOT concerning an SLR, but my Lumix LX5...was hoping you guys might be able to help.
And of course here's my pre-question apology: Sorry if this has been answered somewhere in the 200 pages of this thread, but I didn't see anything apparent in a search. Also sorry if my lingo is off, which I'm sure it is.
So my problem is that the camera seems to be overexposing pictures in decent and above light, where other cameras wouldn't. I'd like to be able to take a shot of a waterfall or something in good light conditions with a long shutter speed. The max (min?) F stop I can adjust the camera to is 8.0. But even at that I generally can't shoot with anything higher than a 1 second shutter speed without majorly overexposing.
I thought that maybe it was just a problem of my F-Stop not being able to go to 16.0 or 24.0, but last night my roommate (with an SLR) was able to get a perfect shot on F8.0 with a 40 second shutter speed and no filter. With the same basic settings (F8.0) and the lowest ISO I can choose (80) I can only shoot with a shutter speed of around 1.3 seconds without overexposing in the same light.
So my question is if anyone is familiar with this camera and can help. It doesn't make sense to me that a lesser quality camera is able to take in so much more light. It seems that I am maybe just missing some other adjustment that would be an easy fix. I've looked into filters, but this seems more like something that should be easily fixable.
Thanks 6/17/2011 2:38:49 PM |

i was at a wedding a few weeks back and the photographers produced a look in their photos I would like to try and emulate. does anyone know how to achieve this kind of soft/desaturated look? i've got the shooting into the sun + large aperture down, but i'm unsure of the post processing. some examples:

^ i just played around with a few of the photots they had on their site. seems pretty cool.
my guess is that they are capturing the photos at the the most narrow aperture possible, having the software calculate DOF, and then applying some blurring like you would in post. its probably more involved than that though 6/22/2011 1:22:53 PM |
Igor All American 6672 Posts user info edit post |

An Indisystem ultracompact. I've heard mixed things but they were mostly pertaining to the owner not communicating with people but he was fine with me and I'm liking it, especially for the price point(425 with the follow focus). Got a big shoot coming up Saturday, I'll post the results. 7/10/2011 2:40:45 AM |
