screw Walston. Dixon/Autenrieth will do as much/more than he would have done for this team. A decent TE is not going to make that much difference on this team or any team for that matter. Let him go to UNC where his dad/coaches want him to go. He had a chance to make his decision on his own and the UNC coaches/his coaches/his family decided to not let him make that choice(illegally mind you). Screw that whole situation and I'm glad we've moved on.

^Agreed. Dixon/Autenrieth is a fine duo for our offense. No need to slobber nob over Walston.

I'm expecting McClendon to be a 2 yard dumpoff or bomb type QB so in that respect, we don't need a stud TE

But dont paint this as anything other than sour grapes

I really think McClendon is going to surprise some people. The coaches hyped him up as much, if not more, than they hyped up Brissett the season before. Think that's why you'll see Brissett unleashed in the running game much earlier this season.

With our offense being so dynamic with multiple looks/formations, having a great TE is really a good thing. Last year Grinnage was our 2nd best option in the passing game, and with how we were running the ball last year, having a TE that can block is very important.

With how bad our OL has been the last several years, always great to have a sure-handed TE to be your safety option.

I'm not sweating missing Walston, I think we got 2 TEs that our staff are excited about, and so far they've done a really good job at identifying guys that fit well with our system. I'd still love to land Moss, if only because we might get his dad to attend a few games, haha.

lol, what? How many TE's have we had that were 1st/2nd/3rd team ALL ACC and we've been in the same 5-7 to 8-5 rut since forever. We've got Grinnage, Cook, Samuels, Browne and Till. Add to that Autenrieth and Dixon. Would Walston really put us over the top over that group? lol...gtfo. Good luck to him at Georgia. I'm sure he'll make them a true contender.

I loved the play that we ran a few times last year where we had all the movement from the offense going to one sideline, and then Brissett stopped and threw back across the field to a wide open Grinnage at TE. A good TE for a QB like Brissett, who has some trouble throwing deep downfield, is pretty crucial. McClendon is supposed to be better in that regard, but we'll still run the ball a ton and need good blocking TE's with good hands.

He was an underrated 3*, sucks to have lost him, but based on what I read on the Twitters it was expected to happen as his offer list started to blow up after he committed to State.

I did lol when he ended his decommitment post with "No Interviews".

Yeah 3* DT that we offered early, he committed early, and then his recruitment exploded. He was getting offers from SEC schools, not surprising he'd be interested in taking OVs.

Odds are he'll end up a 4* recruit and end up playing in the SEC. Hurts because our coaches obviously wanted him to offer him so early and he was actively recruiting for us(always a plus). Also think he was good friends with our 3/4* CB that committed early. That being said, if we somehow managed to land Dexter Lawrence, doubt the coaches will be too upset about the DT position.

Just depends on if Lawrence decides to play close to home(which some have speculated he's really interested in). If he stays in NC, he'll play at NC State. If he gets over not wanting to be too far from home, he'll definitely be in the SEC.

ftfy. Recruiting cycles have been this way for us for a while now. We recruit decently well during a coaches first couple years and then it starts to fall off. I like where we're at now though. This needs to be a depth class followed by a strong one next year. We'll see if Doeren can buck the trend.

hate to tell ya, but thats where we recruit for depth. We're not Alabama where we take "flyers" on 3* kids. A 3* type dude isn't gonna come here and sit the bench. Hes gonna go somewhere he can play.

And that's why we'll always suck. Because of people with your attitude.

Seriously, these guys only have offers from a bunch of 1AA/FCS/whatever you want to call it. I'm so glad we're able to out recruit Campbell.

Yeah this is not basketball where you pretty much know whether they are the real deal or not.

Lots of less heralded football recruits become stars.

[Edited on July 25, 2015 at 5:37 PM. Reason : 2017 CB Chris Ingram (Mooresville) just committed now]

[Edited on July 25, 2015 at 5:38 PM. Reason : Guess we should tell these recruits no and sign 10 recruits]

I just find it hilarious that the biggest gripe with TOB was his recruiting, yet this class is shaping up to be worse than his.

I could understand offering these walk on level players near signing day, but this is ridiculous.

We need to fill in the holes that our team lacks. Or less something strange happens we'll have a solid backfield and Qb for the next couple of years. We need a stronger OL, receivers, and more consistent defense. Last year the rush defense was absolutely abysmal which is why BC and GT had a field day (no pun) with us. Clemson also scorched our DBs last year but the defense did showed improvement late in the season. Instead of picking up random top recruits, we should find the best players to plug into our system as we're not going to consistently beat out those big names programs without first doing big things ourselves.

You're a fan, you don't have to understand. Just let the people that are getting paid to do their jobs do their jobs. If it turns to shit, he'll get fired, just like TOB got fired. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until we start shitting the bed though.

For real though, we're NC State. We're not a top tier team. If you expect us to start recruiting with top tier teams just because we got doeren well then your expectations were dicked from the start. Its a very slow process unless you've got Oklahoma State/Baylor/Oregon type money backing you and building you brand new shit to attract recruits. We're recruiting about on par with where we've recruited for decades now. I'm hopeful that it will change some day, but to get pissed off and all "rawr rawr TOB rawr rawr" about it isn't solving anything.

^Reports he was guaranteed immediate PT as a Freshman. No way we could make that guarantee given our depth/talent at DT. I think the best we could do was offer him a chance to earn his way into the rotation as a Freshman but a good shot he'd have ended up redshirting.

^yeah, that was sarcasm since he set his announcement date like a week after returning from his Kentucky visit. Sucks.

^^^sounds like he's camped at State three times this summer, so the coaches should have a pretty good idea of what they're getting.
