i honestly haven't heard much about that lens. I know that the nikon 18-200 vr is a great lens and can be had for ~750 in the right places. 6/10/2006 5:10:42 PM |

The nikon 18-200 VR is backordered for years. It's a great all around lens, so I hear, but if you need something now, you can make do with 2 lenses. 6/10/2006 5:36:15 PM |

shocktsunami, i really like the cat shot
and i like some of those stone shots, ronny. you definitely tend to prefer the darker end of the spectrum with deep shadows, i feel like.
docido, i went to a show tonight down in raleigh this weekend, and i've gotta show you some shots if they turn out (haven't checked 'em out yet), have you had a chance to shoot anymore shows recently?

I know I'd be shooting more if I had a digital SLR
I'm going on my big trip for the year at the end of june. I dunno that I'd need a DRebel or that nikon tha makes chocolatervh cream his pants, but I'm also unwilling to spend money on a point-and-shoot...I dislike the lack of control (having used three different ones extensively). Anyone have any recommendations? Let's say $200 - $700 6/11/2006 1:30:26 PM |
evilbob All American 4807 Posts user info edit post |
Digital SLRs start at 500.
There are pretty much only 3 cameras in that price range --
Nikon D50 Canon Rebel XT Nikon D70 or D70s. (and only if you get a really crappy off-brand lens. You might be able to swing a nikon non-zoom lens.)
I suppose there might be other manufacturers, but who cares about them. 6/11/2006 1:50:02 PM |
ambrosia1231 eeeeeeeeeevil 76471 Posts user info edit post |
The rebel uses the new mount, doesn't it?
This means no matter what camera I get, I'm not going to be able to use any of my lenses. Thanks for the start. 6/11/2006 1:52:38 PM |

yeah the colors probably are a little bland.. like i said, i got the camera about 3-4-5 years ago (i can't remember exactly)...it is an old one, but works well. Here is another of a gerbera daisy.

i love flash shots with long exposures
ps, when at the beach, manually setting the focus point is an easy way to take shots of chicks while you make it look like you're shooting a pic of your friend

taken with rebel 35mm SLR
the rest are with a canon a75 3.2mp... i know its not an slr, but i really really really want the rebel xt, so does that count???

I see your A75 and raise you the equivalent A510.
Point and shoots are still pretty capable if you know what you're doing, and love carrying a tripod all over.

from a lens review:
Quote : | "Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras" |
Not sure what this means as far as my camera goes. Is this a concern with my Rebel?6/12/2006 2:46:51 PM |
Woodfoot All American 60354 Posts user info edit post |
vignetting is when you have an image that only takes up a part of the picture
think of a fisheye picture, where the image is only in a circle
unless you start fuckign around with russian lenses or extreme fisheyes, you don't have to worry 6/12/2006 2:50:06 PM |
cheezcurd All American 1914 Posts user info edit post |
I kinda understand what vignetting is, my main question was whether or not my camera had an "image sensor larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras."
This is an 18-200mm lens, and the vignetting is said to occur in the 18mm range. 6/12/2006 3:04:44 PM |
coolbeans All American 2173 Posts user info edit post |
thanks woodfoot.
vignetting--see those photos where the corners are kind of darkened. you have a APS_C if your rebel is digital and 35mm if it's not, so regardless you'll have vignetting at 18mm per review. 6/12/2006 3:55:31 PM |

f/3.5 focal length 18mm exposure: .25 seconds
mainly sharpening during post-processing. also it was slightly green

^thanks for contributing!
great colors, and great closeups.
i don't see much true black though, they all feel a bit on the lighter side. the contrast could be enhanced a touch to fix this perhaps.
had you shot the frog with a polarizing filter, perhaps some of the glare/reflection could be more under control (like his eyes don't feel quite right), but cool shot though.
keep up the good work man!

the only filter i have is a uv filter, which i keep on there more as a lens protector than for any other reason
is a polarizing filter worth buying for a n00b like me, in y'all's opinion?
