"Wii's will be gone in flash. Just like they were gona from all EB/gamestops/babbages in seconds"

How many times do I have to tell you that Ebgames did a *limited* preorder of 8-30 preorders a store which if you add up ain't a sliver of how many Wii's they will be rolling out to the retail channel. Probably a 1% point at best. If you are using that as an indicator of demand you are crazy. Hell, those preorder numbers for a good video game would rack up that quickly as well.

It is confirmed that there will be an excess of AT LEAST 1 Million Wii's for the US on launch. 4 million before Christmas and NOA confirms with direct quotes by saying 'plentiful supply every week until calendar end of 4 mil' and also that 'US will get the majority of supply'. It's also on record that it's the largest available launch numbers from Nintnedo in 15 years. Analysts say the demand will sell the units but all 1 mil on launch day? That would be earth shattering for NOA to pull off.

Contrast that with 250,000 xbox 360s availabile on launch week for the US and never even made it past 900,000 sold by Christmas. PS3 will have 400,000 at launch.

And you think we'll have problem pikcing up a Wii? Take your 'markets wil agree' with me bullshit and stick it up your ass.

can't we all just ignore that dumbass

So a few months later, how does everyone feel about the name change? I still cringe a little every time I say it and every time it comes up in a conversation with someone who hasn't heard about it I seem to always follow it up with "yeah I think it's a stupid name too".

I also thought this was an interesting point:

Quote :
"Win: Wii Makes Toys "R" Us Hot List
Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 didn't. This is an easy one to shrug off, but the simple truth is that a retailer like Toys "R" Us has been a good predictor of big-selling items, such as Elmo, for example. Wii is the first videogame console in history to appear on the company's holiday hot list. Why didn't PS3 make it? Maybe because it's too expensive. Maybe because it's an extension of an existing hardware philosophy. But the official line from Toys "R" Us is that Sony's new system is "really geared to a savvy gaming enthusiast," while "the Wii system appeals to young kids as well as adults." Whatever the reasoning, uninformed buyers oftentimes look to Toys "R" Us to help them make their holiday shopping easier and the fact that Wii will be spotlighted at the nationwide retail outlet is a major coup for Nintendo. This can only have a positive effect on sales of the system. "

PS3 is not on the hot list because they will only have a few to sell for Christmas. Of course they are going to put the Wii as a hot item because they know they will have plenty to sell. Its all about the money, gentlemen.

I think its going to be a great system though.

Apparently Nintendo is now saying that all the demo kiosks will have a wireless controller that's not tied down. So the solution to keeping people from stealing them? They are requiring supervision at all kiosks.

and here:

yep, probably theft and battery possibilities led to this, but don't count on it being enforced

off topic -- how come i'm not hearing any news about Sony's "Gamer Day" in San Fran going on today? They're supposed to be revealing everything about the PS3...

480p , how exciting

there might be merit in making a technically weak console so that you can avoid any kind of dilemma with poor yields due to new technology/asics (see ps3)

yeah, yeah. It's only 480p. But that's one less cable I'll have to run up to the ceiling.

That's just not what Nintendo is trying to do. At a $250 price point, it has been reported that Nintendo is actually making money with every console they're selling. To compare, it's also been reported that Sony loses around $140 for every $600 PS3 they sell. They were trying to go for cheap and accessible, and while it may not be true for the majority of people on this website, the majority of Americans don't have a need for anything more than S-video. Nintendo's idea is just to get as many units sold as possible.

I'm showing up a few hours early at the most (probably at a Target or something). I don't see one million systems selling out on the first day.

Depends on the Wal-Mart. The day before the 360 came out, there was a group of ppl that lined up at midnight (24 hours before release). They took those individuals to layaway and sat them on the waiting bench there with little line spot holders. Soon after, they rolled up a television/dvd player to entertain them while they waited.

All you can really do is ask a manager how they will do it, though I can pretty much guarantee that it will not be correct unless it is THE store manager (not an assistant).

The manager of the Nintendo World store doesn't expect his store to sell out on Launch day.

That commercial makes it look pretty awesome. Wii Sports actually looks like its will be a really fun title with some pretty good replay value. I think maybe even my girlfriend would play it.

Is anybody with roommates really dreading playing this thing with them around? The more I see people playing it the more I think "wow that looks really nerdy."

I mean, I'm going to be in line at the Nintendo World store Sunday morning. But you know.

yeah i haven't been keeping up- do they have a way to toggle off the "motion effect" like for cripples or people don't want to bounce around?

or is that the selling point

That "motion effect" is how you control like 90% of the games. It's sort of the entire point of the system.

you can buy a seperate "classic controller" which will let you play most games without "bouncing around"

I could be wrong here, but I don't think the majority of the games will be able to be controlled with the classic controller. Certainly not with the precision of the wii-mote.

oh and here's a pretty boring video. But I'm pretty bored.

Can't I still use my Wavebird? I don't want to have to buy that "classic" controller to play the older downloaded roms.

Also, wtf I have been putting off buying a DVD player because I was getting this thing. At least I suppose I can get one with divx playback now

Don't they give away DVD players with a gas fill-up these days? And yes, you can still use your wavebirds.

So it looks like Nintendo still has something up their sleeve.

The Official UK Nintendo magazine is now stating that the Wii will output in 720p.

So maybe that's it?
