I got it last night at midnight. I have only played for a couple of hours, but this is what I can tell you:


The city is absolutely overwhelming. I mean, it's amazing, and it's gigantic (that's what she said.)

The physics are pretty cool. I hit a newspaper stand and the newspapers flew up in the air and sort of fluttered down/got caught in the wind.

I was driving on an overpass, with very little health, trying to escape the cops. I smashed into the retaining wall, went flying through the windshield, flew over the edge of the bridge and died when I hit the ground.

Fighting is kind of weak so far, but I heard you can learn new styles like in previous games.

You can really feel the difference in the types of cars you drive (the cars all look photo realistic). The powerful engines definitely make a difference. You arent going to run from the cops very successfully in a mini-van.

The bowling is kind of cool. I had fun with it.

got it at midnight and played until around 4am, it is worth the hype. multiplayer freerun kept me busy with some friends for the about 3 straight hours of doing nothing but exploring, since the whole city is open in multiplayer.

the 20 minutes of single player i played was awesome though, and i think i'll get into the missions tonight if i can tear away from the multiplayer.

i can't think of anything that hasn't been covered already, but suffice it to say that this day at work is a countdown until i can get back to my xbox.

Just bought it at Circuit City at Crossroads. The deal was it came with a $10 gift card, but it looks like she took $10 off the price of the game AND gave me a $10 gift card. She quoted me $63.xx, but my receipt says $52.69. It may turn out the balance shown online hasnt been updated and she just applied the gift card to the price, its still a good deal since I got the better price now.

someone mentioned how the newspapers fly up in the air and float around with the wind when you hit newspaper stands so i recorded a clip of it. Its actually really neat along with the fire hydrants.

This game is fucking amazing. The little touches to detail completely blow me away at every turn. Here are just a few of the things I have noticed in ONE HOUR of playing:

-If you hit a pedestrian with your car now, he doesn't instantly flatten like in last gen GTAs. He tumbles and blood will splatter and while gruesome, it's quite impressive how the physics play out.
-The fighting is deep as hell this time around. You have two buttons for punch, one for kicking, and you even have a dodge move. You can also disarm people. It's fucking sick, and nothing I would have expected.
-Each and every fucking building in the game is fleshed out to the max. If you remember GTA3, all the buildings were the same cookie cutter shade of gray with no signs or nothing. Every single fucking building in GTA4 has a sign or something attached to it, and it really makes the game feel alive. You feel like you're in an actual fucking city. It even has the numerous hot dog and food stands scattered about the city like in NYC.
-I honked my car horn at a guy, and the guy in front of my car goes "What the fuck?!?" and runs off. I just thought it was funny how even the horn could affect shit like that.
-If you knock a lightpost out of the ground, you will see sparks fly up.
-When you jack a car, Niko takes a second to start the ignition, which is a pretty cool animation.
-The water effects are fucking SICK.
-When you collide into obstacles in the car, Niko will tumble around inside the car accordingly. Slamming on the brakes makes him go forward, and vice versa.
-The graphics are really awesome. The city at night is incredible.
-There are a shitload of radio stations. I haven't listened to them all yet, but what I've heard is quite good.
-The handling is a lot harder this time around. Maybe it just takes some getting used to, but it seemed like it was way easier in the last GTAs to go around curves really fast and shit.
-Your character has a slow as shit run in the beginning but it looks cool.
-You can watch television, some of which is rather disturbing.
-After my first date with Michelle, I called her back a few minutes later and she says something to the degree of "I don't want to hang out again so soon...". I really wasn't expecting the game to really take into account that I just finished a date with this person, because really that isn't what I expect from a videogame. But the attention to detail is just incredible.

It's really hard to soak all this shit in. But the thing is: The game is fucking mind blowing.

the official review on ign.com, written by xbox360.ign's head person, said that the ps3 version is actually the smoother running of the two versions.

^^From the reviews, most said you had to be doing some really crazy shit for the framerate to start to dip. Like 16 people in multi player simultaneously firing rockets at the same spot, or a jet ski race with explosions and shit going off all around.
