I didn't have a good view of the intentional they called on Degand because from where I was sitting on the opposite end of the court it just looked like a hard foul if that, but by God how do they call that intentional and not that foul above, which did happen in front of me. There really could have been 2 intentionals called on Booker last night.
The officiating was pretty bad in both games I saw. My husband saw the earlier games as well and said it was even worse then. 3/12/2010 9:58:45 AM |

Degand's foul was definitely intentional. He just bearhugged him. It wasn't a hard foul, but it was clearly intentional. And I honestly didn't think Booker's was an intentional foul. He went for the block and missed.
Hard foul =/ intentional foul.

they could have called it flagrant at least. That was more than a hard foul. 3/12/2010 10:04:04 AM |

^^Couldn't agree more.
Degand wrapped Booker up and made no attempt to go for the ball.
I thought the ref'ing was fair. The better team seems to always get the nod on close calls. It happens in every sport. And pressing teams (see Duke) get away with a lot of hand checking. Just the way it is.
So quit whining about the refs.

Proof that Tracy Smif reads Tdub while taking a breather on the bench:

Yeah, that one was crap, but everyone knew there would be a foul call. You had Booker charging down the line with head of steam. Then you had Vandenburg, an awkward freshman, trying to block it. I think the refs were ready to blow their whistle before the shot was even taken.
All in all, it was pretty fair. They got some calls, but we got a few too (especially on some of the out-of-bounds calls in the first half). 3/12/2010 11:06:42 AM |

9 times out of 10 they do not call the intentional that they called on Degand (usually it is accompanied with ass-hat announcers saying that it could have been called an intentional). If they made that call they should have called Booker for the exact same thing when he got his fifth foul. He made no play for the ball and simply bear-hugged degand. This was a piss poor officiated game. Booker spent a long time sitting at 3 fouls and just doing whatever the fuck he wanted because the officials weren't willing to give him a fourth. He finally got his fourth on a bad call. 3/12/2010 2:58:50 PM |

^^^ Wait, so because 'everyone knew there would be a foul call' but there was no actual justification for a foul call that means that a foul call was the right call?
