van in 5, unreal how classless and gutless boston is. Also, Is it a law that if you are a Boston fan, you have to be at least 20 lbs overweight?

^^^^Result plays a large part. You board a dude and he gets hurt that can be the difference between a minor or a major, there are fringe cases. The right call was made on the ice. We're not even getting into supplemental discipline.

^^ lol, that is hilarious to me considering this series to this point.

Fuck Vancouver. I don't care for Boston at all but I see no reason to hope for a Canada team to win.

Am I the only one getting pissed that at least like half of the playoff teams (including both Vancouver and Boston) use the Ric Flair "Wooo!" after goals?

I dont feel bad for Horton one bit... keep your head up douche.

Undecided on legality... it was a lot quicker in real time. Clean hit as far as I am concerned.

i watched the hit a couple more times, watched the angles rome was coming in from... from earlier than that gif

i still believe the hit deserved the major and game misconduct, but i'm not sure he should be suspended.

Shit was premeditated. How often would he even be on the ice vs Boston's first line? He's their 7th defenseman.

Ridiculous? Don't think so. The guy is a fucking goon who has a history of bullshit like that.
Why would it be ridiculous to think he may have planned on taking a run at Boston's best offensive player?

Premeditated hit on their 7th-best forward? Yeah right.

All hits in hockey are premeditated. It's fucking hockey. Simple fact is, Horton is coming down the center of the ice with his head down. He just released the puck, and he got fucking smoked.

How many times do you see someone get hit along the boards way longer after they have played the puck? I would say 10 times a game.

^ his head is hardly down, he is looking at the dude he just passed it to. He also appeared to be turning to look forward and got lit up.

not that this matters, but I wonder if the initial hit knocked Horton out, or if it was the way his head hit the ice on the way down

is it wrong that i took delight in that hit bc it was Boston?

I mean somewhere Max Pacioretty had to be smiling.

I was all for rule 48, and I still am despite the inconsistent nature in which it's applied, but I don't want big open ice hits to be legislated out of the game. If Horton has the puck, that's a good open ice hit. He doesn't have the puck, so it's interference. After watching the hit from several angles, it seems pretty obvious to me that Horton is knocked out when his head slams into the ice. I hope the NHL doesn't suspend Rome, but I'm guessing they will with all the hoopla surrounding the hit. His disciplinary hearing is at 11, so I guess we'll find out shortly.

LOL, you guys are SO TUFF. Of course it was a dirty hit. The league will (justly) make an example out of Rome, especially since he's a non-factor.

The main issue facing the league right now is the ridiculous instigator rule. Players used to be able to police bullshit hits like Rome's themselves, though I realize guys may show a little restraint in fear of missing a game in the Finals.

Okay, look. We're talking about a professional hockey player. Unless they've just lost the puck in their feet, their heads are never "down." If you're not looking where you're going, your head is "down."

I realize it's silly to have to explain this, but I'm doing it on the off chance that you are indeed as dumb as you sound.

^ If you want to call any late hit a dirty hit by default, I suppose that's fine, but the hit itself was not "dirty" in the sense that it was a blindside or an elbow; it's shoulder-to-chest on a guy who's watching his pass.

I was the only one at my table last night who thought it wasn't an illegal hit. the outcome of it was bad, but I don't think other than being a tad late that the hit was against the rules. It looked like the shoulder caught Horton around his collarbone.

^^ I understand what your saying, and obviously he wouldn't be staring at his skate laces. He just passed the puck to the guy he is looking at, probably to determine if he received it. Wouldn't make much sense for him to barrel into the zone if the pass wasn't received. You can also clearly tell he was turning away from ensuring he got the pass to look down ice. I am not arguing that the hit was/wasn't 'dirty' I'm simply stating the Horton was not doing anything unusual in terms of his ice awareness.

Look at the gif the majority of those players are moving in a direction which differs from where their head is looking. No sense in following the puck in hockey, they should all just skate around hit one another bc that's what the games all about.

Horton done for year also... but no surprise there.

Also, non-twitter folks.... appears Jokinen and Pitkanen will be gone.

Cole, Larose and Stillman appear to be staying.

But that's just a twitter update... nothing firm
