Quote : | "NBA Experience Prior to his appointments at Arizona and Oregon, Dunlap spent two seasons in the NBA, working for the Denver Nuggets under head coach George Karl. The Nuggets compiled a 95-69 (.579) record during his tenure and made two playoff appearances, including a 50-win season for the 2007-08 Denver squad, a first for the organization in 23 seasons.
"Mike Dunlap absolutely elevates every player and team he comes into contact with," said Karl. "He is our guy. He will take you from good to great. Name any top-level, elite coach in the game - the only difference between Mike and them is their address. There is no higher level of coaching ability than his. There is absolutely no one better."" |

I'm not excited by this hire, but if you're the Bobcats, why not hire someone like Mike Dunlap. No where to go but up. Hiring some retreaded mediocre NBA career coach isn't going to fix things. Let this guy pour his all into the job and if he goes down in flames, it's not like it can get any worse. 6/18/2012 11:06:14 PM |

In all fairness your coach barely matters in the NBA and many of the guys who are considered great coaches are actually terrible like george karl...
This team is in dire financial straits and is coming off the worst season in NBA history. To top that off their best player is a free agent this offseason and they sold season tickets for $2 per game.
Why not take a shot on a guy who costs nothing that is still going to bust his ass for the pay because it's the most he's made in his career and he has a shot to make a lot more if he eventually succeeds?
The real story of this offseason is can we move any of our crappy contracts, sign any good young free agents, not take on any awful contracts, and not botch the #2 pick and just take the obvious guys like MKG or Beal.
Also, if we could get Sullinger with our 2nd round pick that could potentially be a nice pickup for us. He's on a serious slide after this back news. 6/18/2012 11:34:18 PM |

I agree with face about everything except for the coach not being important part. You cant just roll the ball out on the court and expect to win games playing a slightly more organized version of pickup streetball. 6/19/2012 8:46:20 AM |

I highly doubt Sullinger drops to the second round. But then again, there's a lot of Dejuan Blair in his game, and he shouldn't have been a 2nd rounder. 6/19/2012 10:17:04 AM |

^^i mean, yeh they can't finish worse than last place, but i don't think a 8-64 is totally out of the question after their lone addition to the team becomes thomas robinson & whatever foreign fuck they draft in the 2nd

I mean the guy has been an assistant nba coach. That's what shaw and Snyder are. There's no doubt he will be better than Snyder.
Plus you don't want some former nba coach who is used to making $1.4 million come in and not give a shit because he's getting paid 30% of that now.
Thibs has worked out well in Chicago. Take the guy now it doesn't really matter. This team as currently constructed couldn't win 25 games with Phil Jackson coaching anyway. 6/19/2012 12:15:13 PM |

i'd be fine taking Robinson at #2, he balled out in the Natl Champ game versus a bunch of UK lottery picks
i thought you were gonna say Barnes or Zeller or something 6/19/2012 1:32:39 PM |
DalesDeadBug In Pressed Silk 2978 Posts user info edit post |
it's frustrating...would you rather have them take the safe pick (Robinson) or take a gamble on a potential star (Beal/MKG)?
i'd rather they gamble.
not so sure Augustin will be around. i think he's a RFA, so if a team throws him some money, do we really want to match their offer? i would rather save cap space in that scenario.

Ilyasova is a star obviously and would solve a lot of our woes particularly rebounding.
Just don't think we can afford him, our payroll is too high to take on a top free agent. We may not even have room for a mid level guy this year 6/19/2012 2:16:59 PM |

i thought we'll have around $20 mil to spend if the front office wants to 6/19/2012 2:18:53 PM |

The #2 pick will eat around $5 million, and augustin and white are about 4 and 3 respectively unless we renounce them. We've got $43 million in commits already so that's $55MM and that's without signing derrick brown or our 2nd rounder....
Not much room especially when you consider the team will easily lose $20-$30 million next year too. 6/19/2012 3:58:05 PM |
