David O'Brien ?@ajcbraves 22sHudson getting ovation from Mets fans as he's taken off field on a cart. This is a severe injury, folks. As anyone who was watching knows.
7/24/2013 9:42:08 PM
He's most likely done for the season, that did not look good at all. Might be an achilles tear
7/24/2013 9:42:30 PM
We are fucked.
7/24/2013 10:05:36 PM
He didn't look like he was in much pain. Stella was back in her groove too. God damn that is a depressing sign8game leadChampionships are won in April
7/24/2013 10:21:38 PM
It didn't look as gruesome as twitter was making it out to be. I mean it's a season ender but twitter made it seem like his foot fell off.
7/24/2013 10:26:05 PM
Fractured ankle. Done for the year. That sucks! Gotta give EYJr some respect. He immediately knew it was bad and ran over to Huddy. You could tell he was really shaken by what happened.
7/25/2013 6:51:22 AM
Damn the timing on this Hudson injury sucks. Maholm is garbage, but him going down and now Hudson gone means Wood is the #4 starter and they'll have to rush Beachy back and who knows if he is ready. Minor-Medlen-Teheran as your #1-3 is not striking fear in the heart of teams like the Cards and Reds if the Braves can hang on in the East. Braves shit. Maybe the bats finally woke up a little last night. Team has been putrid with RISP lately.
7/25/2013 7:29:19 AM
they've been looking at trading for bullpen help for a whilenow you gotta wonder if they try to get a vet/ace type of starter as well. we're in first, and have a good chance at a WS. it's been years since we've been in this position, so if the right opportunity comes along...
7/25/2013 7:37:39 AM
it's been mulled over moving Medlen back into the bullpen. This was best case scenario too, Beachy returning and having Huddy Maholm and Beachy 1,2,3. But now i really don't know. insert Wood into the rotation and then when Beachy comes back you decide between Wood and Medlen who to drop out. Or do you we make a trade for a #2 type guy. but what do we give up for that? I don't like what we're going to have to give up to get someone as the sale window is closing and a lot of teams are trying to buy.
7/25/2013 7:43:49 AM
^ there is no way in hell that Medlen is leaving the rotation now. Also LOL at Maholm as a #2 starter. Guy is a #4 at best. Maybe his stint on the DL will get him pitching like he was back in April, but if the Braves are counting on him to be one of their #1-3 guys in October, it'll be another short post season for the Braves. Honestly this is what it'll be for the rest of the season:With Maholm out:1. Minor2. Medlen3. Teheran4. Wood5. Beachy? When Maholm returns:1. Minor2. Medlen3. Teheran4. Maholm5. Beachy, if he's back, otherwise WoodNot looking so good without Hudson anchoring the group.

Jake Peavy?
7/25/2013 9:35:06 AM
I think Wren should open up the farm system and make pretty much anyone available, with the exception of JR Graham. I'd try to hang on to him at all costs. I say this for two three reasons:1. our organizational ranking is down... we don't have any elite prospects like we've had in the past 5 or so years (heyward, hanson (lol), teheran, etc). I don't think Graham is elite, but I think he'll be a solid successful mid-rotation arm. but I digress - there's no sense in being so guarded over average prospects. let some team have their pick of the litter in order to improve our chances for continued success.2. we have a very good young nucleus, that is controllable for the next several years. this will allow time to restock the farm. 3. I'll say again, we've done well this year so far. carpe diem and all that. I mean, if we don't make a move, then STL will. they are dangerous and are looking for a quality SP. LAD have shown that they will make a deal at any costs, and they've been hot. all that said, after peavy, I don't know that there's many good SPs on the market. Ervin Santana, now that KC is pretty much done?
7/25/2013 9:38:03 AM
Alex Wood getting rocked in the day game]
7/25/2013 1:19:52 PM
^4 runs in 4 1/3. Then some guy named Loe who couldn't even cut it with the Cubs comes in and gives up 3 runs. (It was tied 4-4 at this point).
7/25/2013 6:54:54 PM
yeah, i posted that when Wood had given up all of those runs in one inning.
7/25/2013 9:34:40 PM
Not a good start for Wood. Probably was feeling some pressure knowing Hudson was out and that he was now going to be firmly entrenched in the rotation for a little while. That Loe guy is garbage. He's been garbage his whole career. Not sure what the hell the Braves were thinking to sign him, but it's a pretty bad sign because it means you have nothing in the minors you think can contribute as a middle reliever right now. These injuries on the pitching staff suck. Really missing guys like EOF and Venters now because guys like Avilan are being used now for late game situations.
7/26/2013 7:17:47 AM
did we ever mention in here that Cristhian Martinez decided to have surgery?]
7/26/2013 8:05:01 AM
^^This is where the Hudson injury really kills. You were looking at adding an arm to the bullpen like Medlen pre-injury. Now, not only is your starting lineup taxed...your bullpen doesn't get the help it needs either.
7/26/2013 8:35:01 AM
traderumors reporting that braves are now in on bud norris i guess he'd a maholm-esque type of guy (of 2012, not recent maholm), someone to stabilize the mid to back of the rotation. he definitely won't anchor the top thats for sure.
7/26/2013 9:15:29 AM
I'd be okay with Bud Norris. Guy has some power stuff and when he's on, he can easily strike out 10+ in a game. He needs to learn some control, but is a reasonable gamble if the Braves can get him cheap. Better than running Kameron fucking Loe out there and his 27+ ERA.
7/26/2013 11:29:40 AM
7/26/2013 1:07:39 PM
^lol. His season high in strikeouts is 7. Which hes done 3 times. Hes given up more earned runs than strikeouts in 4 games.
7/26/2013 1:14:27 PM
Well I'll admit that I have not looked at his stats at all this year, but he was a high K/9 guy a couple years back. Maybe he's lost some velocity. Just looked at his stats and his K/9 rate is way off. He was an 8.5 K/9 inning guy from 2009-2012. This season he is down to 6.4 so clearly something is different. Looking back through his stats, he's had 6-7 games with 10+ Ks so he is capable of this. But yeah overall he would be a mediocre pickup in retrospect.
7/26/2013 3:20:08 PM
possibly the move to the AL? Instead of a pitcher/pinch hitter 3-4 times a game, hes facing a DH. That could knock off 2 k's/9 easily.
7/26/2013 6:01:35 PM
The fuck are they playing nelly when the game is in ATL?
7/26/2013 7:59:45 PM
Guh. 8 runners stranded
7/27/2013 5:12:54 PM

7/27/2013 5:37:56 PM
Finally someone got the clutch hit today. Get the sweep tomorrow.
7/27/2013 5:58:51 PM
^^^ why? Sure his O is lacking for the year but his D is outstanding.
7/27/2013 6:35:41 PM
Just the bit about his 0.068 BA with RISP which is 6th worst in the league. Clutch hit though
7/27/2013 6:45:34 PM
It will be interesting to see if they keep Simmons down in the order for awhile. He's just not a lead off type guy. Too long of a swing/stride. He can rip the ball when he gets a hold of one, but he's too much of an all or nothing type guy right now.
7/27/2013 8:52:20 PM
National Game. I love this shit
7/28/2013 8:26:44 PM
Simmons starting to learn how to hit with RISP.
7/28/2013 8:54:22 PM
Awesome fielding so far
7/28/2013 9:00:15 PM
JHey! Number 9 of the year
7/28/2013 9:07:59 PM
^^Until now. Gattis should have gotten there. Just counted on Simmons getting that one.
7/28/2013 9:42:43 PM
Man fuck!! Now reed Johnson goes out
7/28/2013 10:58:40 PM
Fuck yea

AW YEAH

Great weekend for the Braves. Puts them in contention for best record in the NL which looks to be damn important since the Braves are a great home team and a putrid road team. Hopefully the NL Central leaders (Reds, Cards, Pirates) will all start to fall back in terms of winning % as they play more within their division come Aug/Sept. Big start tonight for Beachy. Wondering though if they are rushing him back to see what he's got since the trade deadline is looming. Should be interesting...
7/29/2013 8:47:50 AM
yeah you have to assume that's the case. going against a Rockies team that just flew in, hopefully it's a good matchup for him.
7/29/2013 9:35:35 AM
of course we all want him to do well, but if ^^ is right, I'd love to know now if Beachy isn't all there yet. not send him out to a powderpuff matchup to make him look good, then decide the rotation is fine, only to regret not reinforcing the rotation a couple of weeks down the line.I hope such an important decision doesn't hang on the outcome of a pitcher's performance in his first game back from TJ
7/29/2013 9:44:45 AM
^^^Cards play a rough schedule over the next few weeks...Reds, Pirates x2 and the Dodgers.^Beachy really has nothing left to do in the minor league level. Hes thrown about as much as he can. Time to test him out up here and get him going.
7/29/2013 10:47:59 AM
^ I have a feeling the Braves may be rushing Beachy back a little. He hasn't been exactly dominating in his rehab starts, but that is not uncommon coming off a major injury. The timing of his 1st start with Hudson's injury and the trade deadline seems a little to coincidental. It's one thing if they had already him lined up to start this game before Hudson went down. If he pitches well though, it may play into the Braves negotiating plans as they look to trade for another starter (i.e. since Beachy is back we don't have to offer this prospect, etc). And yes I am reading into this a bit much...
7/29/2013 11:22:31 AM
Ken Rosenthal ?@Ken_Rosenthal 13s Trade: #Braves announce acquisition of LHP Scott Downs from #Angels for RHP Cory Rasmus. Strong add to bullpen by Atlanta.
7/29/2013 12:23:48 PM
got dat 190% lefty establishes us as buyers. not that it wasn't obvious
7/29/2013 12:38:09 PM
Nice trade for the Braves. Rasmus has not shown that he's ready for the bigs and may never be ready. Downs is a solid veteran. I am surprised the Angles are selling though. I guess with Pujols going down, they said fuck it to 2013. Braves have pulled off two deals with the Angels for relievers this year (Walden for Hanson - nice move by Wren) and now this deal. Also Downs actually took over the closer role for Walden a few years back in LAA IIRC.
