When I lived in Boston, I did it. I didn't know anyone actually running the marathon, but it was a holiday and my friends and I would go to morning Red Sox game, then sit somewhere on Boylston drinking beer while watching the runners go by. It's not that it was all that exciting, but more so an enjoyable day off.
