I don't really give a shit about 2nd vs 3rd. Now if we drop to 4th, that's another story.

For lukaku "improving" wasn't he really good before United, then didn't start well, and is now really good again? Maybe he's better now but I was always scared of Lukaku at Everton

That’s fair. I agree I don’t believe we are at the level to compete with European elite like Barca, Bayern or Real. That said our record against the top 6 is very good and you can’t say we fluked that record or grinded those out of you look at the matches objectively. We only grinded out a result at Anfield and perhaps a bit fortunate to beat Spurs first time around. . I don’t think City will dominate like they have again, at least I hope not. I am not too concerned about keeping pace with City yet. We are one of the three teams to beat them this year as well.

In terms of united and the future, grinding out results is Mourinho’s mantra. The plan is to do what we already do but much better. Notably in defense, there is a clear need for full backs who offer an outlet in the attacking third. I believe a lot of our play in the attacking third has been let down by having fullbacks who can’t support the attack effectively. We also need a replacement for Magic as depth. McTominay is young still, we need a midfield destroyer to effectively backup Matic. This isn’t a Mourinho team despite us putting in performances every now and then that are Mourinhos bread and butter. So this summer I hope we reinforce the defense. Our biggest need outside of fullback is a ball playing center half. I want Mourinho to implement a deadly counter attacking style like the one he had at Madrid. This year I think the players commitment and attitude has let Mourinho down. Our play has sometimes been slow and lethargic. How much Mourinho is to blame and how much the player are to blame remains to be seen but I will say some of these players have been here under 3 managers now and have underperformed. The truth probably lies in the middle.

I also see a young core. I don’t think there is much truth to Pogba leaving yet and perhaps there is some fuel to Martials fire but our attacking core is still quiet young and I obviously hope Martial stays. I disagree with the individuals saying Martial and Rashford should be starting every game. I have seen the inconsistency from these players. They are still young. Games like Huddersfield, West Bromwich, Leicester (where Martial failed to convert two clear cut chances) and Southampton point to direct inconsistency in attack. We didn’t keep pace with city because the youngsters couldn’t step up and perform in those matches.

I am optimistic. I think there bas been clear improvement but I don’t believe it has been quick enough to what we expected. I also think United was much farther behind in our development. This is the clubs fault 100%. I really want us to start going away from these galactico signings soon and now sign players that are 110% committed and hard working like Matic and Lukaku. Mourinho can’t have another year like this in my opinion. There has to either be an improved in the overall play (yes more attacking but more specifically decisive efficient direct football) or he has to challenge for the title (a real challenge) or CL. I have seen our play get better overall this year and I think we will see more of a Mourinho team next year. If he has similar issues as this year then I absolutely want to reevaluate Mourinho and his position with United st that time.

Yes he is a very good striker but when he first came his overall play wasn’t there. His first touch was atrocious and he wasn’t as involved in the link up play. He had a patch of bad form where he wasn’t scoring much but I believe this is where his overall play improved considerably. His touch sometimes still lefts something to be desired but he actually gets involved in the build up now and his hold up has been very good as of late (surprisingly he wasn’t great at holding up the ball early in the season).

^ embarrassing lack of respect.

Last of the old guard is finally retiring. Sad end to a great manager and person. I do believe he could have achieved a lot more if it weren't for Arsenal's board. The late 90's and early 2000's Arsenal team were easily the best team Sir Alex' United played. I remember how intense those matches where from the players (Keano vs Viera, Keown vs Van Nistelroy) to the fans. Wiltord's title winner at Old Trafford, Ruud's peno miss against the invincible, Ronaldo taking over the Emirates in the CL quarters, Ji Sung Park always scoring against Arsenal.

Some good memories. Wenger left his mark on football and he will be remembered as one of the best managers in the game. What a career, what a man. Legend.

EDIT: Guess he isn't retiring? Just leaving Arsenal. Hmmm. I hope he ends up at one of the big clubs outside of England. Would love it if he manages to cement his legacy with a CL.

Arsenal can finally move forward. Sorry I thought, as an arsenal fan, that I was allowed to be excited about that. I’m glad you could set me straight. United fans opinions about Arsenal really matter to me.

I’m sure Arsène will be devastated when he reads my disrespectful post.

Sad state of affairs when you're excited your greatest manager is leaving. Not even to retire, I hear he intends to take another job ASAP. Would love the look on arsenal fans faces if he wins something important with another team.

It's possible for a coach to be washed up or ineffective just like a player.

Maybe he was once very innovative but the game has caught up with him and he can't rise above it and make the next innovation

Certainly is sad how far he declined. Not everyone can evolve, which is what made Ferguson so great. Arsene was stubborn and refused to hire anyone that would challenge him, which is part of the reason he "resigned".

If he was United's manager these last few years you would've been calling for his head long ago. And if he was still as good as he was 15 years ago you'd be rejoicing today.

Everytime we play Tottenham I am more convinced they are the biggest douchebags in the league. Have they done it admirably? Sure. But their players constantly flop around on the ground. It's annoying. Sooner the loud mouth Poch leaves England the better.

Tottenham do not have a winners mentality. 1-0 up and they thought they had in the bag. To be fair they put us under pressure but De Gea was untested today. Lads it's Tottenham.

Mourinho has now made 3 cup finals in two years. Feels good mayne.

You may want to check the Liverpool forums. I know on the United forums they post full matches without spoilers pretty soon after the match ends.

Salah's season is just ridiculous. Having his first goal hit the bottom of the crossbar and go right in the corner is indicative of just how right everything has gone for him this year. It really is amazing to watch him work.

Pool has the major components needed to win something big this season. Star player having an unreal season and they have managed to not have any injuries at all to their key attacking players. I really hope yall end up with Madrid in the Final and we get banger of a match.

It sounds like Firmino might be on some Alderweireld shit stalling signing a new deal with a release clause already in place. They also have a special clause in place that Arsenal is the only team in the world that can't trigger his buy-out after the Suarez thing

So now if United finish 8 points above Liverpool and 6 above spurs what is going to be the narrative then? We have gotten 19 points out of a possible 30 against the top 6. Spurs have gotten 13 and thats the max they will get and Liverpool can get a max of 13 if they beat Chelsea. City has 24.

We have beaten all of the top 6 in the last two months and have beaten every team in the PL as well.

Time to shut up and show some respect plebs.

By me??

I don't think the league matters for us anymore. At least it shouldn't in my opinion. We have a relatively good draw for the semi final and we should be going all out for the Champions now. Fuck the league, too many injuries already.

Should be a tasty final. Liverpool has dodged playing any of the blue bloods this entire comp but they have to knock the crown off the king to get it over the line. At least both of these teams go for it so we should see some goals.

Really don't want Liverpool to win the final. Done well to get there despite avoiding the best teams but now they have to beat football royalty. Makes me nervous that its only 90 minutes though, never know what can happen. Madrid are big match performers. Winning is expected and once they reach a final they often turn up. Hoping Ronaldo has a classic but I am sure it will be a great match.

Don’t like it. He’d basically be a League Cup player and that’s it on that roster. On any top half roster really.

Anyway, glad to see Stoke gone. Who will boo Aaron Ramsey for viciously getting his leg torn in two?

Lol at this passive aggressive shade. If World Class Celta Viga doesn’t miss a sitter last year you wouldn’t have even made CL this year. I know that’s not what you’re saying but you can only beat who is in front of you.

Disagree about a League Cup player only. Klopp rotated heavily first half of the season and is the only reason we still have a decent XI left at the end of the season after all the injuries. We have no competent depth for Mane/Salah. Ings and Solanke are different options and do not fit the winger positions at all. Pulisic would get plenty of game time at Liverpool imho and obviously I hope it happens.
