That would be illegal. The DA has "sanctioned" this tourny
as long as no real prizes are give which would = gambling
Next year they will try to give away a seat for a tourny at Foxwoods if they can though. Have to get it approved by the man.

hahaha...I love poker
I've been consistently been playing in the .25/.50 tables
I decided to try out the .50/1 tables because my bankroll is getting up there
first hand when I sit down I get AA
guy two seats in front of me raises $4, next guy calls and I reraise to $10
initial raiser folds and the next guy goes all in for $100...I immediately call and win $100
very next hand I get 88 and hit trips on the flop...I won another $20 from the small stack 9/13/2007 7:06:01 PM |

Don't know if you guys know about this or not. The second article has some quality Gracz quotes.
Quote : | "Gracz is headed to Atlantic City next week for a World Series of Poker tournament. He recalled that when a poker tournament in Greensboro was busted in 2004, he won a major tournament the next week.
"If I win this one, the next time I come home I may call the cops to let them know where I'm playing," Gracz said." |

quite a large raise and a huge risk to only have AK

Have you forgotten the type of people at 10 max nl tables Ben? Hell, a similar situation happened to me first time I was in Vegas playing 2-5. Guy opened for $25 I pumped it up to $50 trying to isolate and he made it $200 straight. I folded and he showed AK. 9/14/2007 3:01:56 PM |

Doubt it.
I didn't fully digest the situation but now that I do the villain's play was terrible, yet not surprising. AK is the most widely misplayed hand in the game. I was commenting on the concept of 4+ betting it in general. I get in spots all the time with fellow regs who love 3-betting me, it becomes correct to jam back with AK PF because a lot of the value comes from seeing all 5 cards and also because I'm ahead of their range.9/14/2007 3:10:29 PM |
JohnnyTHM All American 18177 Posts user info edit post |
thats a lot of "what ifs" for one hand...
its gotta be AK suited....against people you've played with a lot....high expected value....
better to dump an unmade hand to a 3 bet PF.
its just too much volatility for me, and thats what ive been working on lately...im too volatile sometimes. 9/14/2007 3:22:05 PM |

^^^ When you're raising 30%+ hands from steal position, you're going to get 3-bet to a lot. Folding AK/AQ is not an option against anyone but the weak/tightest of opponents. I've gotten to the point where I'll often call 3-bets in position with suited connectors and shove like bottom pair or any draw against whatever they c-bet. Fold equity + 5-9 outs if called by the overpair + metagame considerations(gotta be tuff to survive) = why I would do such a thing. There are regs out there that will just pound you to death with 3-bets if you don't them slow them down.
Volatility is a way of life for the serious 6max player. Also, PT/HUD is essential for picking spots to make crazy moves like I described. Deviating from ABC poker is burning money against a lot of villains, but profitable against others. 9/14/2007 3:37:41 PM |

AK being suited shouldn't change how you play it. AK is AK. If you're calling with AK because it's suited oir folding because it's not, you're making your decision based on miniscule percentages.
AK is really not all that great, and AQ isn't either. Sure, their playable, and raisable. But if you're not willing to fold AK preflop when someone pushes hard at you...... personally I don't think that is solid play at all. 9/14/2007 9:58:00 PM |

Yeah, that was my first thought as well. I mean, we're not talking about mid range connectors here. Even if you do hit your flush, best case scenario someone has a Q high flush and what are the chances that happens AND they pay you off.9/14/2007 10:59:36 PM |

I don't like the small reraise here. You want to try to get more money in preflop with AA. Here you give suited connectors and small pairs the odds to call and see a flop with you. Even if they are out of position to you, they will be given good enough odds to call $6 more to see a flop and out flop you. Although this was not the case here and it worked out fine for you in this situation, just something to think about for the future.9/15/2007 10:14:18 AM |
