I mean I can understand that viewpoint. I like having glance-able weather forecast, and the ginormous clock doesn't bother me. I have a Samsung Captivate with a big ass HTC esque flip clock as well so maybe it's the consistency I like. 1/31/2011 11:43:07 PM |

the only thing i miss from my blackberry was this one app that changed its icon to the current temp+weather. idk why apple doesnt spend 5 minutes to make the built in weather app not a piece of crap. 2/1/2011 12:14:09 AM |

I went ahead and used my upgrade since my 3GS was killed. I like the feel of the iPhone 4 alot better. After reading up on the verizon iPhone there is no way I am going to jump ship. 2/1/2011 2:17:22 AM |

I want WP7 to own so hard and it has all the potential to do it what with all the tech microsoft has. but they havent been able to pull everything together.
Ive got a 3gs so im waiting to see what iphone 5 is and how wp7.5 turns out (if its out by the summer) and then i'll pick one of the two. 2/1/2011 2:33:18 PM |

The fact that with a verizon iPhone you won't be able to use any app that requires data while you are talking on the phone. That being said if your using the internet you won't be able to receive calls or get a text message until you exit out of safari or the app.
Also I'm not sure if verizon will offer unlimited data but thats another thing I enjoy having.

I'll be glad when the simultaneous voice & data argument is over. And it looks like it'll be sooner than later as Verizon already has the tech in place to do so even on 3G and will be using it with the HTC Thunderbolt] 2/1/2011 7:30:38 PM |

yeah, the data/voice thing has been discussed to death. it's not really that great of an argument.
i agree w/ pttyndal's comment in the verizon iphone thread

So, you are saying that if I am playing a game on a verizon iphone, and someone tries to call me, that the call will not take precedence over the games internet usage, and so I won't even be able to KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS CALLING ME.
Put in that way, does seem like a bit of a deal breaker. I can understand not letting you access the internet while you are on a call ... big whoop (<1% of my phone calls require this) .... but not notifying me of a call while I am on the internet seems to be a bit of a problem. That means no calls while using pandora in the car, no calls while using gps in the car...
Are you sure that is accurate? 2/3/2011 9:18:42 AM |

^None of the Verizon android phones work like this. There's no way in hell they would allow data usage to take priority over calls since its a phone after all. On other verizon data phones, your data just stops when you get an incoming call. You don't have to exit the app or anything. 2/3/2011 9:22:09 AM |
pttyndal WINGS!!!!! 35217 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, as long as it works like every other phone on Verizon, you'll just lose internet connection while on a call. It DOESN'T prevent you from receiving the call. It isn't like old dial up internet where you wouldn't even know you had an incoming call. 2/3/2011 9:27:28 AM |

On my verizon blackberry... If I have Pandora running and get a call, music will stop and the call will ring through. Once I hang up, music will automatically start streaming again. I never had to exit or restart the app. 2/3/2011 9:55:45 AM |

You can access emails you've received. Just won't receive any while on the phone. I just can't believe it's that big of a sticking point for some people. At any rate, when LTE is rolled out, it won't matter.

If anybody's looking for a cheap bumper for their iPhone4, dealextreme.com has them for $2.49 with free shipping. I ordered them in 5 colors and just got them today. I can't tell any difference between these and an official Apple bumper (probably because these were made in the same sweatshops as the originals). 2/4/2011 1:24:35 PM |

it's common for me to be speaking to someone on the phone and ask them to email me a document, receive the email while still on the call, open the document, and review it as i discuss it with the sender.
with Verizon i would have to hang up and call them back. awful. and don't tell me it's fine because one phone will support this scenario.] 2/4/2011 1:30:33 PM |

is Cydia not loading or just horribly slow for anyone else? I'm getting error: cached failure errors. I did just update my phone to 4.2.1 and jailbroke it. I think Cydia is just overwhelmed at the moment. Can't get anything to load. 2/6/2011 6:16:22 PM |

update:
Cydia is installing alright. Modmyi.com and/or bigboss are just so overrun with the new jailbreak that they might be down/not responding. I've gotten bigboss to work but I can't add apt.modmyi.com. It just keeps saying can't find repository. I'll try again in the morning when it's not so busy.
^you first need to know what version you have and what baseband you have. Check under "modem firmware" in the about section under settings. If it's the newest you won't be able to unlock. If you're on 4.2.1 version though you'll be able to jailbreak with the latest green poison jailbreak. 2/6/2011 10:37:18 PM |

^thanks. I just got it a couple of days ago. 03.10.01 and 4.2.1 . I'm not leaving the country any time soon but it would be nice to have the option. So after I do updates does it screw everything up? 2/6/2011 10:49:09 PM |
neodata686 All American 11577 Posts user info edit post |
Updating to the latest OS version will update the baseband (modem firmware) if you do it through iTunes. There's ways to prevent the baseband upgrade but it looks like you've already done it. I can't remember if it's possible to downgrade that baseband but it's worth a look. Or you can wait until they unlock that one. In the mean time you can jailbreak using green poison for 4.2.1. If you're new to jailbreaking all it does is add the Cydia app icon and ability to do things you wouldn't normally be able to do. I'd wait a couple days though. The major repositories (sources where apps are downloaded from) are bogged down due to the JB just coming out. 2/6/2011 10:54:36 PM |
