^I have a few of these, seem to be well made

Except one showed up with bent feed lips and I CANNOT get these guys on the phone. They asked for pictures via email 2 weeks ago, and I have heard nothing in reply since.

Get them from http://www.7-62precision.com/magazines/ if you can. Possibly the best customer service I have ever received in my life. I called to verify stock, got no answer, and someone from the store called me back within a minute. Apparently you can get cheaper shipping when ordering over the phone. Mags shipped same day, came 2 days earlier than USPS tracking.

I tried to order 20 of them, but the shipping was like $110. Get the fuck outta here!

I'll try to call them in a day or two and see how much the shipping REALLY is.

looks like it fired out of battery. in other words, the bolt wasn't fully closed and the cartridge wasn't completely in the chamber when it went off.

Buying a 1972 Marlin tomorrow that looks like its never been shot.

The first year of the new run of 1895s. No safety and the last year for awhile they didn't use microgroove rifling.

Super low serial #! Since I love 45-70 so much this is probably the best gun I've ever bought.

Will post pictures this week-

The ring looks off center too...

Maybe it got squashed as it was going into battery at an angle?

Then fired and ejected "normally."

jealous as hell over here man, congrats

so, what's the short of the long of legally owning/using a suppressor in NC? I'll be moving to VA in a few months so it'd be a pretty useless endeavor at this point but I'm curious anyway. Was watching a video online of a suppressed mk25 in FL and it'd be a cool totally useless thing to have

Either set up a trust or you have to get the sherriff to sign off I believe. Trust is the easiest route IMO.

I'd wait and see how this pans out:
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/01/10/proposed-nfa-form-changes/

Quote :
"
According to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affiars a series of changes are being proposed to the NFA transfer process (the process involved in acquiring a machine gun, suppressor, short barreled rifle/shotgun, etc.). These changes will:

> Eliminate the requirement of a law enforcement official to sign your forms
> Require each responsible person of a corporation, trust or legal entity to complete a specified form 1 or 4
> Require each member of a trust to complete and to submit photographs and fingerprints with forms
> Require that a copy of all forms be forwarded to the chief law enforcement officer of the locality in which the maker or transferee is located

This series of proposed changes seemingly eliminates the benefits of forming an “NFA Trust”, a popular way to easily facilitate navigating the difficult NFA process. The elimination of the dreaded law enforcement signature for individuals however is a definite benefit."

no, you don't have to justify need, there are just a bunch of CLEOs that won't sign off at all

think about how much some of them hate to sign off on CHPs, then multiply that by a bajillion

if I hadn't just dropped almost a grand on a new pistol I'd probably pick one up, that's a decent deal and I assume you can look at a few and pick your favorite

then again I could just drop a .40 barrel in my G32 for <$100

but, assuming that option doesn't exist for you, yeah. go for it.

^^I know another user on here just picked up one of the glocks from lawmens, so maybe they will chime in.
There should be no problems with them. They will most likely have some holster wear, but few rounds through them relative to their age. $300 isn't a bad deal for a great used gun.

As far as NFA:
1. Make Revokable Living Trust. You can use quicken will maker, get a template from a dealer, or hire a lawyer. To use the trust for property that requires taxes and depreciation, you need to register your trust in NC. To use it for 'personal' property, there is no requirement to do so.
2. Go to dealer and purchase item that you want. Send $200 and paperwork to BAFT.
3. Wait forever.

I am in the middle of step one and two. I have the trust info filled out, but haven't gotten it notarized yet. That will happen this weekend. I have already given my money to the Class 3 dealer, and he has ordered the can. Once the can comes in, and my trust is complete, then we send in the paperwork.

thanks for the info. I guess I'm confused as to what a living trust has to do with firearms and what the logic is behind the presence thereof circumventing the sheriff's approval

then again I don't know anything about trusts

The trust is an entity. The entity can own property.
As the trustee, you can use any property owned by the trust.
As an entity, the trust does not need to have its photo taken, fingerprinted, a background check, or CLEO signature.

not sure if this has been posted, but this is a fairly interesting look into wound characterization from a surgeon/anesthesiologist's POV. don't mind the title, the actual lecture is not a debate between 9mm and .45

Just so you guys know, BATF has finally come around on NFA requirements as a result of last year's gun bill.

You no longer have to get a MG permit from the CLEO/sheriff. Anyone can purchase one with the standard NFA signoff, but more importantly, you can now purchase them with a trust. No more dickwad sheriffs making their county a MG-free zone. They have also adopted the new language eliminating the R&D language requirement. You may now own NFA items for any and all lawful purposes.

Note that due to the language, if you list 14-409 as your reason for owning, then you DO still need a permit.. Again, just a quirk in the language, so just don't cite 14-409 as your reason for ownership and you're good.

I think there really is some merit in a suppressor for self defense purposes, if only to avoid the disorientation / hearing damage that may result from firing any type of firearm in a close quarters / home defense scenario. Don't really know much about them or the process to acquire though, other than what was just posted

NY is absolutely nuts:
Quote :
"ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York lawmakers agreed to pass the toughest gun control law in the nation and the first since the Newtown, Conn., school shooting, calling for a stricter assault weapons ban and provisions to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill who make threats.

"This is a scourge on society," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday night, six days after making gun control a centerpiece of his agenda in his State of the State address. The bipartisan effort was fueled by the Newtown tragedy that took the lives of 20 first graders and six educators. "At what point do you say, 'No more innocent loss of life'?"

The measure also calls for restrictions on ammunition and the sale of guns. It is expected to pass Tuesday.

"This is not about taking anyone's rights away," said Sen. Jeffrey Klein, a Bronx Democrat. "It's about a safe society ... today we are setting the mark for the rest of the county to do what's right."

Under current state law, assault weapons are defined by having two "military rifle" features, such as folding stock, muzzle flash suppressor or bayonet mount. The proposal would reduce that to one feature, including the popular pistol grip. The language specifically targeted the military-style rifle used in the Newtown shootings.

Current owners of those guns will have to register them.

Private sales of assault weapons to someone other than an immediate family would be subject to a background check through a dealer. New Yorkers also would be barred from buying assault weapons over the Internet, and failing to safely store a weapon could lead to a misdemeanor charge.

Ammunition magazines would be restricted to seven bullets, from the current 10, and current owners of higher-capacity magazines would have a year to sell them out of state. An owner caught at home with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge.

Stores that sell ammunition will have to register with the state, run background checks on buyers of bullets and keep an electronic database of bullet sales.

In another provision, a therapist who believes a mental health patient made a credible threat to use a gun illegally would be required to report it to a mental health director who would have to notify the state. A patient's gun could be taken from him or her.

The legislation also increases sentences for gun crimes including the shooting of a first responder that Cuomo called the "Webster provision." Last month in the western New York town of Webster, two firefighters were killed after responding to a fire set by the shooter, who eventually killed himself.

The measure passed the Senate 43-18 on the strength of support from Democrats, many of whom previously sponsored bills that were once blocked by Republicans. The Democrat-led Assembly gaveled out before midnight and planned to take the issue up at 10 a.m. Tuesday. It is expected to pass easily.

The governor confirmed the proposal, previously worked out in closed session, also would mandate a police registry of assault weapons, grandfathering in assault weapons already in private hands.

It was agreed upon exactly a month since the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

"It is well-balanced, it protects the Second Amendment," said Senate Republican leader Dean Skelos of Long Island.

Cuomo said he wanted quick action to avoid a run on assault weapons and ammunition. He estimates there are already about 1 million assault weapons in New York state.

Republican Sen. Greg Ball called that political opportunism in a rare criticism of the popular and powerful governor seen by his supporters as a possible candidate for president in 2016.

"We haven't saved any lives tonight, except one: the political life of a governor who wants to be president," said Ball who represents part of the Hudson Valley. "We have taken an entire category of firearms that are currently legal that are in the homes of law-abiding, tax paying citizens. ... We are now turning those law-abiding citizens into criminals."

In the gun debate, one concern for New York is its major gun manufacturer upstate.

Remington Arms Co. makes the Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle that was used in the Connecticut shootings and again on Christmas Eve when the two firefighters were slain in Webster. The two-century-old Remington factory in Ilion in central New York employs 1,000 workers in a Republican Senate district.

The bill was the first test of the new coalition in control of the Senate, which has long been run by Republicans opposed to gun control measures. The chamber is now in the hands of Republicans and five breakaway Democrats led by Klein, an arrangement expected to result in more progressive legislation.

Former Republican Sen. Michael Balboni said that for legislators from the more conservative upstate region of New York, gun control "has the intensity of the gay marriage issue." In 2011, three of four Republicans who crossed the aisle to vote for same-sex marriage ended up losing their jobs because of their votes."

^it would require legislation, not just a change in NCWRC regs.

Quote :
"G.S. 113-291.1(c)

(c) It is a Class 1 misdemeanor for any person taking wildlife to have in his possession any:
(1) Firearm equipped with a silencer or any device designed to silence, muffle, or minimize the report of the firearm. The firearm is considered equipped with the silencer or device whether it is attached to the firearm or separate but reasonably accessible for attachment during the taking of the wildlife.
(2) Weapon of mass death and destruction as defined in G.S. 14-288.8. "

While you're there, get yourself a gunsmith screwdriver set. The bits are hollow ground and fit screws real well so you don't end up buggering screws. They're not that expensive but make a real big difference. You'll wonder why they make regular screwdrivers the way they do.

i have the Standard Set No. 1 w/ #81 handle from Brownell's. it's got all the basic bits and there's room in the tray to add whatever special bits you realize you need later.

i've also found a torque driver to be extremely useful for mounting scopes and playing with action screw torques for tuning accuracy. i bought a refurbished Utica TS-35 on ebay that works really well.
